Tantra Aveda Spa

I was looking for a place to get my brows waxed in the area. I decided to check them out based on their great reviews, and I saw they also did eyebrow tinting which caught my attention. I was able to get an appointment in the same day and I’d glad I did. Heathers was the woman who waxed and tinted my brows. She was super friendly and very meticulous when it came to the waxing and plucking. I hadn’t had them done in a while so I was way over due. She was careful not to tint them too dark since I have lighter colored eyebrow and blonde hair. She did an amazing job and shaped them up better than could have hoped for it was $ 35 for the tint and wax and boy was it well worth it I will definitely be coming back, and I plan on trying a nice facial as well.

Wasn’t my type of spa. There is a reason no pic of spa area on here. Kind of hippie-​like. My massage was mediocre. Won’t be returning.

Molly’s Mani/​peds are second to none– she has the magic touch! Facials and massages never disappoint-​during vacation week I may even book a facial & 2 hour massage– it’s a day well spent– pure heaven!!!

The reviews for Tantra Spa are extremely high and favorable. After checking the place out myself, I don’t understand why. I would give this place zero stars if I could.
First, the spa is located upstairs of a shabby retail shop. It looks like it was someone’s home at one time. The colors are dark and the entire spa is dark; it gives off a creepy vibe. The rooms are cluttered, not relaxing. The furniture could all stand to be replaced. I wasn’t comfortable there at all.
The facial was a huge disappointment. I wasn’t confident that the girl doing it was very experienced — and the next day, my forehead broke out so badly that I am wondering how clean the place is. My face was a mess for the next month, I finally got it cleared up and I don’t think I will ever get a facial again — definitely not from this place. Extremely unsatisfied for the money I paid.
During the facial I could hear every car and truck driving by loudly on Woodward, including an ambulance that roared by right after my appointment had just ended so zero chance at feeling relaxed. Also, a random woman walked into the room at the very start of my appointment — they should consider getting signage on the doors that say the room is in use. This goes back to the fact that the place is so dark, you will get lost inside — particularly if it’s your first visit. I assume the woman was looking for the bathroom. And speaking of the bathroom, there is one towel for public use in there — for sanitary reasons, providing paper towel for clients would be much better.
Go elsewhere, this place is not worth it.

Came here to have my eyebrows done since my usual person was not available. Brought a photo of how I like my eyebrows and stated that I like a full brow. My wax artist did a decent job but thinned the inner part of my eyebrow a bit more than I would like. Took quite a bit of time when usually I’m a very quick job. Overall ok job. Recommended the place to my boyfriend who also had a similar experience.

I had a French pedicure from a very nice lady but to be honest it didn’t last very long. For the price it should have lasted 4 weeks but it only lasted about 2 weeks. I had a better pedicure at Merle Norman in troy. They have excellent massages but I would skip the pedicures.

I want to start off the review with saying I love Tantra spa. I love the vibe from the moment i step in. Everyone has always been very friendly and accommodating. That being said I feel like I need to rate the actual service that I had. I do not get to treat myself to a massage that frequently so I really want it to be amazing when i do. Nicole was the one to give me a massage and i felt like it was rushed the entire time. I work and live in a rather fast paced environment and appreciate massages for being able to slow down everything, mind and body. Her movements were very fast and she spent the majority of the time on my shoulders. She had asked me if anything was sore beforehand and i did tell her i worked out and my shoulders were sore but i didn’t expect ¾ of the time to be spent on that area. In the middle of my massage i told her that i really enjoy the slower movement but she didn’t take it into consideration. She barely worked on my legs and again what she did, it was just quick/​fast rubbing of my calfs and quads (which were also tight from working out) and she didn’t even touch my feet!!! How can you have a full body massage and not have your feet massaged? There are so many pressure points in the feet, how can they be missed COMPLETELY. I kept thinking/​or hoping that maybe she was going to go back to my feet but it never happened. And there is the other issue… i was thinking instead of just enjoying and relaxing.
I will go back to Tantra because i have had great services from there and I do not think you can judge a entire place on one person. For me personally Nicole and I just didn’t click and it is unfortunate for me that this was my experience.

The best place to go get a bikini wax in the metro Detroit area! It was love at first wax for me, lol. I found the staff to be very meticulous with their craft and it will be my go to favorite if I’m not near Noy Skincare in NYC.

Best massage I’ve ever had — Laura was great and I’m not a person to schedule an appointment right after a service and I did.
When I called I left a message and they were very prompt with getting back to me for a same day massage — I love that!
Would recommend this place in a heart beat!

I got my eyebrows done here by Lola. First off this reminds me of a get away from a busy city in a downtown area. It’s upstairs I almost want to take my shoes off when entering cause feels like home. We were greeted by lovely Lola who was super friendly. She did an excellent job on my eyebrows especially since I have not gotten them done for 3 months of maternity leave she even gave me a little head massage cause I was stressed as you can imagine lol. Also my favorite part is she talked about what she plans to do with your eyebrows in front of a mirror rather than getting a surprise tad pole eyebrow at some other places for 40 dollars. This was a 20 dollar service which was comfortable, friendly and clean… and best of all I liked my eyebrows and they were symmetrical …;)

This place is really rustic and cute. But what’s better is the service is excellent. I hurt my lower back but was in desperate need of a Brazilian and underarm wax. I needed to stack pillows under my back to keep it from hurting my bruise but Heather didn’t make it more awkward than it needed to be. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t awkward at all. And she was an avid professional. And even more so, she did an excellent job! Seriously, she was done in like 35 minutes and I am as smooth as a newborn baby! My other wax lady at another establishment takes at least an hour or more and I’m not nearly as smooth. Thank you, Heather! I will be going returning.

This might be the fastest I’ve ever written a review, considering I just got home from my appointment an hour and a half ago! But I had to sing their praises right away… it was THAT good.
I visited Tantra today for some pampering prior to my upcoming wedding. The spa was a bit difficult to locate initially, situated on the top floor of a free-​standing retail building. But the interior is beautifully appointed. It struck just the right chord — clean but not «clinical,» plush but not overdone, zen but not to the point of cheesiness. Every person I encountered was warm, friendly, and very welcoming; not even a remote air of snobbiness to be found from anyone (the main reason I avoid a lot of spas in the Royal Oak/​Birmingham area). I loved their retail area and the unique products they carry (in addition to the more well-​known line Aveda).
I got a one hour massage with Suzie and a pedi/​shellac mani with Molly. I was so overwhelmingly satisfied with both services. The massage was first, and it just may have been the best massage I have ever had. I carry a lot of tension in my neck and upper back, and Suzie managed to alleviate that while still giving me a comfortable and relaxing experience. She was so conscientious about pressure, temperature, and all the «little» things that can truly make or break a massage. One of my favourite parts was the scalp massage — just absolutely wonderful. The whole treatment was fabulous and just what the doctor ordered for a slightly stressed-​out bride two days before the wedding.
Next I had my pedi and my mani with Molly. Again, she was very conscientious and friendly, also very personable and easy to talk to. My pedicure was great — she removed my dead skin without any discomfort for me and polished my nails beautifully. My shellac manicure was also great. I have short, thin, «eggshell» nails that I have always been embarrassed of but she truly made them look beautiful. Couldn’t ask for more for a wedding manicure.
All in all, a wonderful experience, highly recommended, and I can’t wait to go back!

Got my very first Brazilian there. The girl was super nice and made me feel very comfortable. Walked me through the whole process. Not awkward at all!

I have been meaning to write this review ever since I returned from my family visit in Michigan. Tantra is an absolutely wonderful spa, top notch in every way! I recently took my parents and treated my self. My mom received the Peace facial/​massage package and my father got the Assudha body and back treatments. I received the Self-​Renewing facial and back treatment. We were all in heaven, and the relaxation effect lasted long after we had left the spa. Yvette, Nicole, Molly and Heather were fantastic. Thank you Tantra! I will visit again whenever I am in the area and my parents plan on making routine visits.

The spa sits on the second floor of a small retail building. There’s a door and narrow stairway up to the second floor. As you emerge from the climb, you transition to a calming environment that has the right scents, background music, and visuals to put you in the right place. There’s a small shop area that has many Aveda products and other women-​would-​like-​it stuff.
Tantra has become my regular place for massages. I’ve gone through a couple of people, and have settled on Nicole. Many have a standard routine that they go through. Nicole talks to you in the beginning to find out what’s going on and then she feels the areas that tense and need some work. I’m typically very tight in shoulders, neck, and lower back. She does a great job in getting those muscles to relax. Also, she incorporates some stretching which is unique and helpful. It’s hard to find a reliable massage since they vary widely. I’ve found my go-​to person/​place now!
I’ve also had mani-​pedi from Molly. Not having much to compare or relate to, I thought it was very good. If I did it more regularly, I would go to Molly.
Tantra is a low-​key place that is not overly commercial and has great environment. More of a hippy-​ish/​new-​agish place than modern spa that belongs in a fancy shopping mall. It’s a great place to go if you are less suburban and looking for uniqueness.

Like all Michiganders who have battled through the relentless winter storms this season, I was in need of a little retreat; somewhere I could restore my weary, winter bones and chapped wind-​burned skin.
Having heard good things about Tantra, I decided to give them a try and booked a bliss package (90 minute facial/​90 minute hot stone massage.)
It’s an Aveda spa, so the moment you walk in you are greeted by the classic Aveda «Shampure» aroma. Soothing, for sure. The décor is done in earth tones and has an Eastern/​Bohemian vibe going on. They also have a «green boutique» — full of Aveda and Zum products. It’s curated with other lovely items, like pieces of art, scarves, journals and bags.
I was welcomed quite nicely into the spa, offered water and a nice selection of Yogi teas. It helped me to settle right in and chillax.
So onto the services —
Facial — I had Lola perform my facial and she was incredible. I feel like she really took the time to perform each step of the facial thoroughly. We chatted easily (not too much, not too little) about beauty products and different techniques. The massage she performed on my shoulders, arms, neck and feet was AH-​MAZING.
Massage — Susie performed my hot stone massage. It is in my all-​time, top five favorite massages of all time. Susie is a gifted masseuse. She is intuitive. She knew how much pressure I could tolerate. And the scalp massage. Oh. The. Scalp. Massage. It was pure bliss. It was like time stopped and I didn’t even know where I was anymore.
Yeah. It was that good.
So yeah, five stars. Value is completely aligned with the price of the services. Wonderful, relaxing atmosphere. Talented service providers. Completely enjoyable experience. It was everything I needed. I walked out feeling completely restored.

I had the best facial of my life today at Tantra, and I’ve had more than a few. Yvette has magical hands (seriously, I’m fairly certain she’s part unicorn), and my face is baby’s bum soft. Definitely spring for the premium facial that is really more of a hybrid massage/​facial. Great atmosphere, blissfully relaxing, super beneficial (perfect cleaning but not aggressive; didn’t leave looking like I’d been smacked around), and reasonably priced. My only complaint is the embarrassment I felt, having drooled on the table in my gorked out state, but Yvette was kind enough not to mention it;) Can’t wait for my next appointment!

Great little spa. Not a large cookie cutter spa that doesn’t care about clients and feels like they follow a text book in how they are setup.
Yvette and team have a great spa that all family members have enjoyed. Be it facials, hand/​feet or massage everyone has come away feeling great.

I am a fan of spas, but I am also super picky. I don’t have much luck with finding what I like. It doesn’t help that I’m not really a fan of massages. Crazy, I know.
Well, I injured my neck and I have «Boulders» in my shoulders according to my chiropractor. This is sadly true. I carry all of my tension in my upper back & shoulders. He said that I need to get those knots worked out in order to get relief. Thanks to Laura K, I decided to check Tantra out. I set up a 30 minute massage with Nicole. I wanted to take it slow and didn’t see a need for 60 minutes when all I need is my back done. I’m on a mission!
Nicole did an abosultely wonderful job. I have had several massages in my life, and I have to say she is the best. She’s not too rough and doesn’t make me feel like she’s just giving me a back rub. I really enjoy her service and will continue to go to her to keep my back healthy! I think the prices are reasonable too. It’s also very private. I was the only person in the place during both of my massages. I’m totally ok with that.
My next service is a pedicure by the lovely Molly, who I have heard is great!

Molly is the best! I love getting a pedicure at Tantra on the covered porch. Unlike most places it’s very private, quite and relaxing. Since it’s an Aveda spa the products smell great! They also make a lot of their own scrubs and lotions. I have gone elsewhere but I would never ever switch.

I first went here about two years ago when searching for a place to get body waxing which makes me nervous just saying those two words together. They use Aveda products which was a major bonus for me trying the location.
I’m so glad I gulped down my anxiety and let them do their work because not only were they extremely professional but made me feel like «this bikini wax is no big deal.» The bed has a heated pad which was great since I was only wearing a wrap around robe. Love the calming music and scents.
Since my first time I’ve tried a few other estheticians but I found the gal that works best with me and I’ll move my schedule around so I can have my appointment with her. If you want a body waxing the main tip I have is to grow your desired waxing area hair to banshee/​yeti/​caveman length. The longer it is the easier it makes it for the esthetician. it it’s too long then i’m sure they can just cut it. But this also helps your little baby hairs grow in too– so they can remove as much as possible at the same time.
Sounds undesirable but your results will be– so I always stop here before a vacay. I used to only have ONE DAY at a pool because of razor burn. Thanks to Tantra this is no more!
I have not tried the other services yet but it is always a possibility.
