This is a review just of the donuts. My wife and I split 4 donuts: crème brûlée, s’mores, Nutella chocolate cake, and mini Boston crème. The crème brûlée was the best of the bunch. Had a slight cream filling and a nice brûlée topping. The filling and brûlée topping were excellent, though I’d say the donut itself was average. The other 3 donuts were good, but nothing special. The Nutella chocolate cake donut, like all their cake donuts, is made to order, so it comes out hot. You’d think that’d be a good thing, but the problem is the icing then melts, and they serve it to you wrapped in a piece of wax paper in a bag. When you take the paper off, guess where your icing ends up? You guessed it: on the paper. The cake donut itself was a bit crunchy for my liking, and the Nutella flavor lacking. The mini Boston crème had great icing but the Boston crème itself was again not very flavorful. The smores donut was less of a donut and more of a ring of cake with icing and marshmallow in the middle. No major complaint about that, just saying. Good donuts, but as far as artisan donuts go, these don’t stand out.

Review is only for the crème brûlée doughnut: It might have been one of the best doughnuts I’ve ever had.

So at first, I was skeptical of trying fried chicken with donuts. I never was really too crazy about either. My coworker kept bugging me to go, and eventually I gave in. Since my first time two weeks ago, I’ve already been three times. Their food is amazing. Their fried chicken on a donut sandwich is really good. Definitely the best Boston cream donut I’ve ever had. I’ll keep coming back. Only thing that sucks, is that if you go during lunch, you more than likely won’t be able to sit and eat. So get it to go!

Woohoo 600 reviews! What better way to mark my 600th review than to write a review of Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken! We came to Astro Doughnuts for National Doughnut day. Sadly they did not have any free doughnuts but I was able to pick from a decent selection. I was told that they sold out on other flavors. We decided on maple bacon, crème brule, and chocolate expresso. No chicken on this particular visit, we just wanted doughnuts. The doughnuts were delicious! Light and airy; they are definitely not the cakey style doughnuts that other places do. The maple bacon was amazing– I loved the maple bacon glaze and the bacon added the right amount of salty flavor to balance the sweet doughnut. The chocolate expresso was delicious too– the chocolate expresso flavor comes from the chocolate glaze. My husband ate the crème brule and loved it. Staff was friendly and helpful. The shop itself it relatively small, with limited seating. Definitely a welcome addition to Falls Church.

If you’re going to go here, keep in mind that it’s very easy to spend over $ 30 on just donuts and chicken. your best bet would just be to stick with the tenders. The tenders are seasoned ok and have a great crunch. The only downside is that they only offer you one container of sauce that is only filled only less than ½ way. Any more, they’ll charge you extra. Stingy with them sauces. The sandwiches here are not that great. The«donut» that they put the chicken in between is not a donut. It’s just a piece of bread that is square with a hole in the middle. It’s dry and not flavorful. Now on to the BESTPART!!! the donuts tho!!! crème brûlée is delicious. I could eat a dozen of those myself. The passion fruit is sooo yummy and PB&J is decent. Maple bacon is crumbly, but they do add a good amount of bacon on it. Each donut is like $ 3 each so it can get pricey. 4 stars for the donuts 3 stars for the chicken I’d come again for the donuts. I’ll go to Popeyes for the chicken.

Unfortunately, the donuts tasted dry and were not flavorful at all. Had somewhat high expectations from reading all of the reviews. Not happy to have paid over $ 15 for half a dozen of mediocre donuts… but it makes for a decent picture, I guess.

Let us Pray… Dear Heavenly Doughnut gods… I think you today and every Day for Astro’s… Thank you for the gift of stretchy pants so that we may indulge to our hearts desire… and lead us not into salad… but to Chicken Tenders and Cream filled doughnuts… Amen… So… I was going to whole foods and notice Astro’s next door… I saw a little line forming and wanted to know what all the fuss was about… I walked in and realized what all the fuss was about… THESEPEOPLEMAKEDOUGHNUTSFROMSCRATCHANDTHERE’S CREAMINTHEM! GLORIOUSGLORIOUSCREAM!!! While there was a small line there wasn’t much of a wait at all. I informed the young lady behind the counter that this was my first time there. She recommended the cream-brulee doughnut, and mentioned that it received some best doughnut dc award… She didn’t need to say anymore… I got that… OMG… I am a doughnut/cupcake connoisseur(self proclaimed) and this is literally THE best doughnut I’ve ever had in my 30+years on this earth… and I’ve had a lot… Anyways… this place is a hit for sure… It has a few chairs and tables and would be cute for a nice date. The service great, and pretty fast! I can’t wait to come back!

A pretty tiny place, Astro Doughnuts has been on my bookmark list for quite a while, but I finally made it there on Sunday. Despite the bipolar weather, Astro made me smile :) Donuts just happen to be my latest obsession and while my favorite donut place remains to be another donut shop, Astro came pretty close. The plan was to simply check out the place, instead I came out with 2 freshly delicious donuts. I ordered a crème brûlée and a lemon hibiscus. Both donuts were soft and tasted like heaven, although the hibiscus lemon one was a bit too sweet for my taste; however that didn’t stop me from gobbling it up hahaha the crème brûlée was my favorite — pure deliciousness! I will say that $ 2.95 per donut is too expensive in my opinion. And maybe because it was Sunday, they had only one person working so it kind of slowed down the process. Astro also offers breakfast items and apparently some good fried chicken, but I was there for the donuts lol

Did you know that a fried chicken sandwich could be even better?! Well Astro did, which is why they offer it sandwiched between one of their donuts instead of a plain ol’ bun– prepare to be amazed. If you’re feeling extra adventurous your donut can be seasoned with Old Bay spice. And Props to the staff for making more fried chicken minutes before close, my friends and I slid in ten minutes before closing. We got half a dozen donuts to go, including the crème brûlée donut which was AMAZING. Thank goodness I am not close to this place more often.

The best donut that they have here is the crème brûlée. Everything else here has been a sore disappointment. Flavors I’ve tried and won’t come back for: pb&j, chocolate espresso, lemon hibiscus, vanilla glaze, nutella. All meh. $ 3 for a donut is also slightly ridiculous. Their Tator tots are good but really what Tator tots are good. Suspiciously tastes like Ore Ida ones which I love. The chicken sandwich is decent. They charge $ 0.65 for the Sriracha mayo which is… silly. I keep coming back hoping to see the crème brûlée donut and it is never there and I try something else and I get sad. That’s all I will say about that.

Rounding up from 3.5. Prices are ridiculous – $ 2.95 for one donut? :(if you’re coming here for donuts, I would recommend duck donuts instead. They have somewhat the same kinds of flavors/toppings for their donuts. Astro has«donuts of the month.» This month there’s a lemon-pistachio donut, and it was pretty good. I also a maple-bacon cake donut which was also wonderfully fresh and warm, but I’m not sure that justifies the $ 2.95 price. I also got the five chicken fingers, and wow, they were good! Something in the breaking/batter is really yummy, and the chicken just was very fresh and real white meat. This location in particular is really small. Just one table with two chairs, and then a little bar to sit at lining the window and wall with stools. It’s also slower than other, bigger locations. The employees dress in whatever they want(hoodie and sweats), and I think it contributes to it feeling more like a local store with real people behind the counter – which is nice – but it also kind of makes it seem somewhat unprofessional and overcasual. I personally didn’t care but I can see some more pretentious people caring about it. Food is good, employees are friendly. The only downsides of this location is the limited seating and small space in general; can barely form a line of 5 people without it feeling really crowded.

So many yummy choices to choose from. So glad there’s one in Virginia finally. Cuz let’s be honest driving into dc just for donuts is a little crazy even for me. I had been dying to try the crème brûlée. I really wanted to like it. But unfortunately it just fell short of my expectations. I even gave it more than one try. Too much sugar and not enough crème. Oh well. I did really like the Nutella. I must say they have really upped thier game since they first opened. They have so many more choices to choose from now. The cake donuts are made to order. So if you get one of those you will have to wait a bit but they come out delicious and warm. The fried chicken was decent. I still have to try the chicken sandwich. It’s definitely on my list. If your ever in the tysons area and craving something sweet stop by. You’ll be glad you did.

Cherry blossom donut-awesome! Vanilla glazed– was so good and so balanced with just a hint of coconut. Buttermilk fried chicken is everything ! It smelled so darn good that gluttony kicked in while driving along I495 and I just had to eat. Steering wheel in one hand and chicken leg in the next! Worth every bite

I’m sad to say, but I’m not sure what all the hype is about. It’s OK fried chicken and mediocre doughnuts, in a very small store front. I think my favorite thing about the experience was the cream soda from their soda fountain. It was delicious. My husband and I stopped in for dessert after grabbing tacos nearby and when I saw they had a Nutella chocolate cake doughnut I was super excited to try it. When they told me it took extra time to make since it was cooked to order I was even more excited. I received it piping hot, and sadly that’s about where my excitement fizzled out. Most of the glaze was schmeared on the wrapper, so that was a bummer, also we were eating in, but they wrapped our stuff in bags like they wanted us to leave. Then the doughnut itself was pretty bland and I don’t think it was cooked all the way through, it still had a very doughy-unappealing texture to it and I had two bites and tossed it. The chicken on the other hand, while good, wasn’t anything extraordinary. My husband’s crème brûlée doughnut was also just OK. The filling was his favorite part. They also have a doughnut/chicken sandwich that I would try if I was there while I was hungry, but I am not sure I would purposefully make a trip out here just for that. All in all, it’s an interesting shtick, and it wasn’t terrible, but I have definitely had better.

I’ve never been to the DC location, but I was finally able to try the location in Falls Church. I ordered the fried chicken on a savory doughnut with sriracha mayo. It was simple, yet very delicious. I really liked that the chicken was made crispy! My only criticism was that the doughnut was a little greasy… but a doughnut is fried so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised… it doesn’t deter me from eating it was again. I also tried the maple bacon donut which was very good — just the right amount of sweet and salty. My husband tried the crème brûlée doughnut. I had a bite and it was good!

Amazing food!!! Great concept and perfectly executed. Nice setting. Excellent menu. I got a chicken sandwhich on a doughnut. Only thing is I wanted my sandwhich on a glazed doughnut. The cashier wasn’t that experienced… She looked at me like she couldn’t do it. I said I don’t mind paying an upcharge… I think she just charged me for an extra doughnut. I didn’t care. But she didn’t think to put the glazed part inwards… So you should let them know. The cashier with pink bangs was probably the worse thing about the place. Definitely new to working… You literally have to explain everything to her. My friend ordered a combo, didn’t say combo… Because she got a dinner from the board, which says it on the board. The girl had no idea. Hopeful she gets training. She said she didn’t eat meat whenever we asked her something about the menu… I’m telling you it was amazing!!! I can’t wait to try it for breakfast with an egg. It’s a must try. They need to put glazed doughnut as a bread option!!! Had crème buelee donut. Great too!

These doughnuts are so so flavorful sweet soft light and fluffy. All of the different flavor doughnuts are delicious. My favorite flavors for now are crème brûlée and pb&j doughnuts. These light and fluffy doughnuts are so perfect, melts in your mouth and can’t get enough. Astro doughnuts fried chicken sandwiches are really good too. Everything on their menu is a must try… at least once or two. The service… friendly and helpful. The food comes out pretty quickly. Certain food on their menu does take a bit more time to make and it is made to order, so it can take about 5 – 10 minutes longer than just getting doughnuts. And depending how busy they are.

My favorite thing they have is the chicken sandwich with gravy. Very tasty! With that being said, their other items leave much to be desired. For a long time I’ve been a fan of Krispy Kreme donuts and not the ones from the grocery store. I’m talking about the fresh melt in your mouth ones from the actual KK locations. Another contender, Duck Donuts, gave me a religious experience with their warm and delicious donuts. Astro donuts seem to lack in those areas. Very average and room temperature donuts. They need to jump on that warm and decadent band wagon. Their fried chicken is good but cost an arm and a leg so I’d rather eat at Popeyes. But I do wonder if I could buy their sausage gravy… I’d put it on everything!

Location: the location is convenient, but extremely busy, so parking is a little rough. Being able to go to Whole Foods after or before is great. Donuts: as it gets later in the evening the selection is very limited. We went on a day, maybe an hour or two before closing, the only donuts left were chocolate coconut(I’m allergic to coconut) and PB&J. We decided to try the PB&J. It left a lot to be desired. The jam in the middle is made in house, but it overpowers the PB glaze and peanuts on top. The chicken donut sandwich: I had the chicken with the savory donut and my son had the chicken with the old bay donut. The chicken lacked flavor and the donut was a little grease. But it wasn’t terrible. We both loved the tater tots. And my son loved the Crème soda. We wouldn’t go again, but it was good try something different from our usual. We have a favorite donut shop and for now we are going to stick with it.

I’m a bit of a doughnut snob. I remember the days where I was in love with Safeway’s sugar doughnuts(I still love them), but oh I have graduated to bigger and better things. Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken is a wonderful marriage of two of my favorite things. I love love loved the crème brulee doughnut. But as much as I loved the doughnut, I wasn’t too crazy about the chicken. It was slightly too oily and a bit on the smaller side. The tater tots were also kind of bleh — nothing special. tasted like tots that I bought at a grocery store and fried them myself. So for a doughnut, two pieces of chicken, and tater tots, it was roughly $ 13. Eh. I think I’ll just come back for the doughnuts. Cute storefront, good location, small space(grab to go). Also, many people don’t understand the concept of it(no one in my office understood what it was about), so perhaps better marketing is needed too. In sum — 4 stars for the doughnuts; 3 stars for the chicken; 3 stars for the price; 2 stars for the tots.
