First visit to Stadium Bar & Grill last Wednesday night while waiting for night class to let out. I do remember this being Kris Krois, a deep blue seafood joint that I enjoyed a couple of times. Times change. Now we have a nice large rectangular bar with back dining room that pours national and local suds and an abbreviated short order menu for those so inclined. Specials every night of the week. This is a neighborhood bar looking for neighbors on this forlorn stretch of Rt. 1 in Fairless. Only 5 people here when I walked in around 7:30 pm. The friendly barkeep approached with a smile, and when I said this was my first time, she promptly gave me the quick tour of drinkables, and handed off their menus to examine. My Sam Adams Winter Lager was perfect for a cold night, and had I been hungry, a few of the snacks looks appealing and very well priced. The HDTVs were channeling plenty of sports, and the other guys were engaged in conversation about industrial cooking. Apparently, they worked at different assisted living facilities, and had tales to tell. I eavesdropped now and then, as one of the homes was in my town. Good to know the inside poop. My 45 minutes went fast. I paid and promised to return on a Monday for their wing night. No one seemed to hear me, except the nice bartender, who said she would be waiting. Cool!

Hmmm. Tonight’s visit brings The Stadium down a notch. John ordered the strip steak(again) and it was very good as usual. I tried the Italian pulled pork sandwich with a side of coleslaw. Not the best choice this evening. The coleslaw was way too sweet and was also very limp. John has a higher tolerance for sweet coleslaw, but even he found the texture unappealing. I asked if the kitchen would swap it for a side salad. They did, and it was a better choice. The pulled pork was pulverized to the consistency of hash, studded with tired diced red pepper. The seasoning was bland. The sandwich cried out for another layer of something to give it some additional texture and flavor. A layer of red pepper would have been more pleasing than the chunks that were almost dissolved in the meat. The sandwich looked about as tired as our server(different from previous visits), who was at the end of her shift. We know they can do better here on the sandwiches. Perhaps Tuesday is an off night…

Had lunch here twice in last week. My wife’s salad — she had Caesar but with Balsamic dressing and homemade croutons– she said one of the best she ever had. My son and I had the burgers — delicious. Staff exceptionally friendly going out of their way to accommodate you.
