Split Endz

This review is from an older male, so any of you guys out there — check it out! I went looking for a «new» stylist about a year ago after not needing one for 25 years, being peripherally involved in the hair industry (my ex was a stylist :). Boy, what an experience! About 4 months ago, I found KC Calvarese at Split Endz in Fairfax using Unilocal Reviews, and I can’t say enough about my experiences since then! KC is not only engaging, always smiling and upbeat, but get this — she listens and asks questions before making «spot on» suggestions. Every other stylist I visited since my search started would listen, but do what they wanted anyway. Not KC! And to top it off, she’s extremely knowledgeable and a true professional in all techniques! For me, trim, clip, color, and blend — I’m a pretty vain and demanding guy. I also never write reviews!

This is my wife’s review… Have been coming here since they opened because they do a super job and the stylists make you feel right at home. The surfboards and vibrant color on the walls makes for a «spunky» beach theme. Sally is one of the best stylists I have ever visited; her skills at highlights and perms are unmatched. I just let her do «her thing» and my hair always looks fantastic! And Stephanie always does a great job at cutting my hair. Split Endz is deserving of all the compliments they get on Unilocal,best salon in Virginia!

Ok haircut. Nice environment. Somewhat overpriced. If you are a guy who likes your sides tight, this place won’t do the trick.

I have known Sherry Sparrow for 8 plus years and she is the only hair dress I will let touch my hair. She has been cutting my hair for years and now highlighting my hair. She respects your style and never cuts more then I want. Others see long hair and for some reason they think they know better me and just chop away. Not Sherry. Plus, Sherry does magic with covering my gray hair with highlights. In addition to doing a great job with my hair she is an amazing person, super kind and caring.
Sherry started cutting my children’s hair when they were kids. Now when they return from college the first thing they do is visit Sherry. She is truly the greatest.
We are happy that Sherry has moved to her new location. Split Ends is a relaxing and CLEAN salon. The owner of the salon is very friendly.
I would not go anywhere else. Sherry is the GREATEST.

KC is my great hairstylist! She listens to me about my ever changing hair color I desire and copes with my continually graying hair! Not to mention, fixing my split ends! My wife and I both followed Kum Calverase (KC) when she moved to Split Endz. KC has cut my hair for years and I wouldn’t consider anyone else.
The surfboard theme in the shop is well executed and gives its a more masculine feel than other shops that do both men and women’s hair.
KC can give me the exact same haircut as last time or radically change the cut if I ask. She is a good friend and always sends me out with a great cut and a smile.

The salon setting is same like SuperCut so this is definitely not a upscale location. The stylist is friendly most of the time but lacks experience. When she washes my hair, she only shampoos my hair once, as oppose to at least two times. She also lacks the hair washing techniques. During hair-​drying, she literally only dries my hair with the hairdryer. There is no blow-​drying or finishing techniques used. She’s friendly but tends to rush to finish her job.
Overall, this place looks welcoming. Service is good but the quality of my stylist remains questionable. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my friends.

KC did an amazing job with my hair.
I saw KC for the first time several months ago and was very pleased with my experience. KC is very knowledgeable. She will give you her opinion without being pushy. I was unhappy with my previous highlights, and she was able to explain to me everything my former stylist had done wrong. KC was also concerned about keeping my hair healthy as I continue to get highlights, which I truly appreciate. She’s not only a good stylist, but also very friendly and easy to talk to.
The salon: laid back and casual environment, which I loved.

I would highly recommend KC and the salon. I have not personally seen any other stylists, but they all seemed very friendly. I will definitely be going back in the future.

One if the better places to get a haircut in a Fairfax. I have been a client of KC for almost 12 years and this is by far the best salon she has worked at. I might be a little biased but KC is the best and always does a great job. Ask for KC if you decide to give it a try there.

Split Endz rocks! Last year, I followed my stylist, KC, from another shop and love the relaxed, sunny, and cheerful atmosphere. Everyone is professional, friendly, and chatty (but not too much). I’ve been with KC for 12+ years! She saved my fine, lifeless, stick straight hair with an expert razor cut that add texture without having to add lots of product. She works on all hair types and is truly an artist with a razor.

Love, love, love this salon!!! Everyone there is super friendly, it’s very clean, and everyone is, wait for it… PROFESSIONAL.
My personal Stylist is Stephanie, and she is an absolute doll and dream to work with. She takes the time to listen to what my ideas/​wants are, and is more than willing to try to achieve my goals! Her work is excellent, and she is friendly, and super talkative which helps to make long appointments go by fast.
I’m so happy to see this salon growing and thriving, because they really deserve it and truly work their butts off to make their customers happy. I will forever be a loyal customer! Now, stop reading my review and go get your hair done!

Ask for KC. She is an amazing stylist.

I just went here on Friday. First I called kind of last minute on a Friday and asked if they could fit me in. They said if I could come within the next 20 minutes they could fit me in. So I hauled it over there and got there as quick as I could. Stephanie was my stylist and she was super nice. She greeted me and asked me what I was in for. I was actually cutting like a foot of hair off. (I had long hair for about 4 years and I just wanted to chop it off today). So she was excited and talked with me about what I wanted my new do to look like etc. She made me feel really comfortable. So she got busy and was very nice throughout the whole experience. We chatted about boyfriends and home buying in the area etc. She cut my hair into a nice shoulder length bob with some side bangs. She blew it dry and it looked really great. I was super happy with it. It all only took about an hour too. It was a big change for me but she made it a relaxing time and I love my new hair. I really enjoyed my experience here and would recommend them if you are looking for a good haircut.

My wife and I went here for haircuts and were pleasantly surprised. The first thing we noticed was the beach type decorations. I really love the surfboards at each station. It’s a nice touch. The music in the place was really good but not overly loud. The people there were all friendly and very helpful. We saw Lisa and she did an amazing job on both of us. We watched as others cut hair and they all seem to be very good at what they do. We will most certainly be regulars here.

This is a great little hair salon. I started going here because my favorite hair stylist, Sherry moved to this salon and I had to follow her there of course. She does an awesome job on color and cuts! She’s always willing to switch up my look for me and knows my hair so well at this point I wouldn’t consider going to anyone else. I’ve never been to anyone else at this salon and I’m sure they are all great but I would definitely recommend Sherry.

This is a solid, basic salon. I like to go here for my regular shampoo, cut, and style. I’ve been here three times, and they don’t disappoint on that front! They accept later appointments, which is great for after work. The prices are affordable compared to other salons, and the stylists do a great job on my haircut.
I wouldn’t stray too far out of their comfort zone, though, which I consider to be cuts and color. I went here to get my hair relaxed (I’m a white girl, but hate flat-​ironing my hair all the time), and I should have looked elsewhere when the stylist said she doesn’t do many of those. I should have cancelled the appointment when she started asking ME how my regular person does it. I hate to give a bad review, because the stylist was so nice and is great at so many other things, but she did burn my scalp which is the biggest no-​no in relaxers. It was also more than I’m used to paying, but everything is more expensive in this area than my hometown.
I’m also not a fan of the beachy atmosphere. It’s a matter of taste, and to each his own, but I prefer the ultra-​chic salon style, where they play techno and the stylists wear all black or all white, or the classic salon style, where the walls are beige and they play Enya and nature sounds.
I’ll keep going here for haircuts, but I’m definitely going to look elsewhere for my relaxer.

I’ve been getting my hair cut at random salons in the area for the past few years, but this place is by far the most laid back atmosphere. The friendly staff all treat you like family whether or not you’re their client. My stylist Stephanie W is so personable and professional, and I always leave satisfied with my cut. Kudos to her for not resorting to just clippers for a men’s cut, she gets the shears and texturizers out and does her magic. This place is highly recommended!

I recently moved to the area and was in desperate need of a trip to the salon! They were able to schedule me within a few days! My stylist was Stephanie and she was great! She was super friendly and did a great job on my cut and color! I loved the the laid back atmosphere of the salon! I’ll definitely become a regular!

i went into split endz this past weekend for a keratin express treatment. i have very thick, coarse and dry hair that is partly wavy. during the summer months i really can’t do anything with my hair because of the humidity so when i heard about the keratin treatment, i needed to try it because it claimed to eliminate frizz and cut down on styling time. there is the longer lasting brazilian blowout and the shorter term keratin express which i did because i wanted to try it out first to see if it worked.
i got the treatment done on saturday. i was told not to wash my hair for 24 hours. on sunday evening, i washed my hair with sulfate-​free shampoo and was glad to find that my hair was easier to blow dry and took less than five minutes to straighten. what really surprised me was the texture of the hair. it didn’t feel thick and difficult to handle while styling.
The true test came today. it went up to 96 degrees here today (felt more like 100 due to the humidity). i went out to walk the dog and when i came back in i was happy to find that my hair hadn’t gone into the crazy POOF mode it usually does after 2 minutes in humid climes. although i was sweating, my hair still maintained its shape with virtually no frizz, no poof and without the undesirable thickness which would normally make my hair look lucy from the peanuts comics.
i’m totally going to go for the longer term brazilian next time around.
Also, the salon was really surprising. this was my first time going to split endz. it is located at the end of what appears to be a very small strip mall. from the outside, it looks rather drab, but i had no idea the inside would be so fabulous. the interior is designed so that you feel like you’re at a beach and it made me feel very cool and relaxed. The salon is clean and comfortable (as well as their bathroom — very nice!). the salon also has several rooms in the back for other services (i’m assuming skin care, nails, etc.) which looked very clean and comfortable. all around nice salon and i’m glad i found it. yea!
The lady who did my hair (ach! i can’t remember her name. i know it starts with a J though) was so knowledgeable and patient when it came to explaining how the treatment worked and the differences between the brazilian and the keratin express. i felt more comfortable with the whole process — thank you!
