Menchie started mixing when he was only a baby. It quickly became his passion and led him to do what he loves and love what he does: making mixes of yogurt and toppings with his sweet friends. Together, the Sweet Friends represent the United Flavors of Yumm (UFY) and travel the world in the pursuit of yumminess with one mission in mind: to spread the yumm with smiles. In the UFY, any mix possible and all mixes are created equal.

History

Established in 2007.

Menchie’s opened its first store in Valley Village, CA on May 15, 2007, by husband & wife team Danna & Adam Caldwell. The Menchie’s concept emerged from a story of two lovebirds and their common love of frozen yogurt, when Adam took Danna to a frozen yogurt store on their first date; that was when Danna’s sweet tooth took over, and the world of frozen yogurt was never the same again…

Their dream was to create a yogurt store where people of all ages can enjoy themselves not only from great tasting, quality frozen yogurt, but from a unique experience in a fun and happy environment that makes every guest smile. Menchie, the company mascot, is an integral part of making people smile. Along with Menchie, the Caldwells incorporated a unique and inviting store design, outstanding selections of frozen yogurt and fresh toppings, and attention to the needs of every guest, young and old. Combining all these important aspects created the concept that Menchie’s delivers today.

Hi. My name is Julie and I would like to introduce myself to you. I have a BS in Business Administration and a Masters degree in Business Administration, and have a diverse background with over 25 years experience in the food and service industry as well as information technology and the mortgage industry.

When I first started looking, my reasons to buy a franchise were to be my own boss, control my destiny and make a return on investment. However, while considering Menchie’s, it occurred to me that I also wanted to be part of a company that has strong values, a commitment to the community, as well as a commitment to the success of each franchisee.



I decided to buy in to the Menchie’s franchise as opportunity to build a family business we have dreamed of for years, and making people smile is work we definitely enjoy doing!

Love the tart flavor! The honey graham was a close second though. They sell all of the flavors prepackaged to take home for about half the price. They have a few tables outside to enjoy your frozen treats.

I’m so glad this place opened half a mile from my house… My diet will suffer, but oh well. The place is clean, there are little cups to sample the flavors, and that’s important since they’re are usually one or two new ones each week… Nutella. Frozen. Yogurt. Please bring it back… And they keep blueberries in the toppings section so I can fool myself that I’m eating healthy :)

If you live in the Fairfax Circle area, this is probably the most convenient frozen yogurt location for you. And even better, it’s a good frozen yogurt location too!
On the day I went, there were a ton of flavor options ~ key lime (perhaps my faves), peanut butter, Cinnabon, original (of course), chai latte, and others I’ve forgotten. There’s also no limit on how many samples you can try.
The toppings are good too, with fresh blue berries, strawberries, blackberries, Reese’s, and other standard toppings like sprinkles. But the highlight for me was bobba bubbles! I don’t remember seeing that topping before.
PS ~ If you sign up for their rewards program online, you get a 25 «smile» bonus (equivalent to $ 25 spent at Menchies), and when you hit 50 smiles, you get a freebie. Smile. :)

Menchie’s is the best frozen yogurt place! Their yogurt is delicious and the staff that work there are extremely friendly when you walk in. Menchie’s also has a great rewards program that allows you to get some freebees here and there. Also, they change up their flavors constantly and always have fun and yummy new ones. It’s tucked in the corner of the Pan Am shopping center but don’t let the location fool you, it’s so good!

I’ve tried all the frozen yogurt places that seem to be popping up lately. Menchies is by far the best. The staff are always friendly and bubbly, the place is always clean and the variety of flavors are plentiful. Also, their rewards program lets you get free frozen yogurt almost all the time if you go consistently.

I’ve heard about Menchie’s for awhile now and have been wanting to try it (it’s a national chain if you did not know). When my friend mentioned she had been to one near where she lived, I took it upon myself to make the trip. Especially since there currently isn’t a Menchie’s near me, I did not want to pass on the opportunity.
Like other frozen yogurt places that I’ve been to, Menchie’s is bright and welcoming. The staff is friendly and greets everyone who walks in. They are a self service frozen yogurt shop which is always a positive for me! I personally like deciding how much of each frozen yogurt flavor I put into my cup, while ensuring there is space for the toppings. They have a variety of different flavors to choose from. I chose the coconut and cake batter. It sounds strange but I liked both flavors. Their toppings are neatly displayed and well organized. They have some fruit and lots of sweets. They also have Captain Crunch… yum!
Overall, I enjoyed their frozen yogurt. I prefer creamier fro yo and Menchie’s is on the creamier side. Price is about 49 cents per ounce, so not unreasonable. Simple, straightforward, and good frozen yogurt? Menchie’s has another returning customer.

I would have given it 5 stars but apparently the owner chose not to participate in accepting coupons obtained outside of this specific location. Only if an employee handed you a coupon while you’re in this particular location would you be able to receive a discount. That says to me, ‘We give discounts to people we like and no one else.’ Apologies for not living close enough to be in here so often that you know me and want to give me a coupon. I actually would not have come here tonight if I hadn’t gotten this coupon from Pandora. To receive no sort of consolation, save an ‘I’m so sorry,’ was like adding insult to injury. Every successful food service business immediately offers something to be sure to retain customers. So I’m very disappointed.
Fortunately, I managed to spend less than $ 5 and am still full and happy. I really genuinely enjoy this frozen yogurt. It is, BY FAR, the best frozen yogurt I’ve ever had. I will keep coming here because it’s the closest location to me and there are only two within a reasonable driving distance.
So y’all lucked out that I’m not choosing to go somewhere else, but I guess you were counting on that huh?

I feel horrible to say this but I’m hoping this review makes them up their game.
I’ll start with the positives which is that I was really impressed with the interior design. It was just different in a positive way! Workers were great too.
BUT…This is probably the worst tasting froyo I’ve had… Ever. Who am I to judge? Well one of my family members created their own brand, so I’ve been spoiled with good froyo. And trust me I won’t even mention her place because I’m not hear to troll and advertise my families spot. Im just sharing that I really appreciate good froyo and have a pallet for it. I judge all froyo places based on the original tart flavor, cause the rest cascades on the taste curve from there.
The original was so sour compared to a nice tart. Like it tasted slightly like old yoplait yogurt and then the flavor just died. Because I poured so much already in my cup, I felt bad and just purchased it. I also added some cheesecake hoping for a better flavor to compensate. It was just as bad. The consistency was probably the only thing I can comment on for the original tart. The cheesecake came drooping out as if it was slightly melted. A major faux pas in the froyo realm.
As for the toppings? The strawberries looked old and not fresh at all! I didn’t even bother tasting one. The mochi was a low grade mochi that lacked flavor and consistency. The first thing off was the color as it was purple. I’ve never had good mochi that wasn’t the original white color. This tasted like a cheap alternative. I’m Asian, so I know my mochi! I also put on some other toppings and it’s the same quality; I think you’re getting my point.
I think the business may need to switch to a different franchise to provide this local area some good froyo. I think they have a great market because of it’s location. I’ve lived here for 32 years. But the menchies franchise is a flop. I’m genuinely dissatisfied. If you’re the owner operator, I want to encourage you that you have a great business and location/​market, but the franchise needs to go.

Enjooyed a frozen yogurt here with the wife on a warm summer’s Saturday evening. The offered selection was interesting and varied. I was surprised by the total bill, too, thought it would be higher.

This has opened up within the last few months and I couldn’t wait to try it out. Upon entering I was happy to see many options to include dairy and non dairy. The toppings included a variety of fruit, nuts, candy, chocolate, cereal, syrups, marshmallows, etc.
My husband made his ultimate fat boy dream dessert. It was all chocolate, peanut butter, and candy. He said it was really good and he isn’t a fro-​yo guy at all.
I have a dairy sensitivity but I said the hell with it and went with a dairy option. My stomach handled it and I enjoyed the flavor of cookies n’ cream.
This place is pay by the ounce so of course the key is to get light toppings.

I am so excited that this place opened up at the Pan Am shopping plaza-​perfect location for me since I am a frequent shopper at the Safeway and there’s plenty of parking.
The frozen yogurt is ok and nothing spectacular but I do appreciate how they frequently change their flavors (salted caramel, mint, cake batter etc) to provide tough choices. The texture of the yogurt is not as thick and solid as other places I have been too. Supposedly they use California happy cows so I am thinking maybe that is why the texture is different.
The staff is super friendly and I must say this is the most child-​friendly froyo place I have ever been too! They sell cute items with their logo (smart marketing on their part)-tshirts, stuff animals, dodge ball, beanies, watches, etc. There is always free coloring pages with crayons available for kids, and they give away free stickers and tattoos. There is a chalkboard where anyone can draw on. I am not sure if all this free stuff and friendly staff is just because the place is new-​I really hope they can keep it up.
My daughter LOVES this place.

Yet another frozen yogurt shop in Northern Virginia? Yessir. Menchie’s just opened in Pan Am Plaza, which I’m just surprised to realize didn’t already have a frozen yogurt parlor. Well, better late than never.
The setup at Mechie’s is your standard self-​serve frozen yogurt shop — grab a cup, mix and match your frozen yogurt, get your toppings, and pay by the ounce. The flavours are all pretty standard — you have your regular tart, your cookies and cream, your caramel, your various fruit flavours, etc. There are small tasting cups if you want to try something out before committing which is a plus. The toppings are also pretty standard, crushed candy bars, fruit, mochi, chocolate sauce… you know the drill by now.
So how was the yogurt? Overall, it was OK. Nothing amazing, but nothing horrible either. The tart yogurt was good and just a wee bit tart but could have used more. I’m not sure if the pistachio flavour I got was actually pistachio. It tasted like an odd mix of vanilla, green tea, and generic Nut Brand™ nut flavour. It was not objectionable, but it felt like it was formulated by someone who only had read about what pistachio tasted like in a book rather than cracking one open themself. The coconut was also pretty standard and strong which I liked. While I can’t comment on many other flavours, my boyfriend tried the cookie dough flavour and said it was too overpowering and artificial tasting, so give it a test run before committing to that one. Other than flavour, the texture of the yogurts were all pretty good. It wasn’t icy or coarse and it ranked on the better side of being smooth and creamy as good froyo should be.
So Menchie’s has OK but but otherwise unremarkable yogurt. So what does Menchie’s do to stand out from the crowd? Well service was very good when I went. The cashier was very friendly and quick. Also there was a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating too, a major plus as it gets warmer and people start flocking here later at night. Cleanliness also gets a nod. Hopefully, as one of my fellow Unilocalers mentioned, they keep this up as the shop matures. Finally as for value, I think it works out to about $ 0.50 an ounce which is basically the standard going rate nowadays.
So would I go back to Menchie’s? Probably. It’s a nice froyo shop with plenty of seating and it’s conveniently located in Pan Am Center. But Caveat Emptor, I strongly recommend you try out the flavours you’re interested in before you decide on getting a full cup, as they seem to be rather hit or miss at the time of this review.

This is a new location of the chain, and the first and only frozen yogurt place in the immediate area. They just opened so everything is brand new and sparkling, which hopefully they are able to maintain over time, and the service was super friendly, which I also hope they will be able to maintain.
In terms of the frozen yogurt, the setup is pretty typical; about two-​dozen flavors at a time, and in a touch I appreciate, not all of them have that yogurt tang (us usual, they have little sample cups so you can try a couple before you commit). The topping collection was a bit more extensive than average, and of course you pay by weight.
Overall a nice addition to the Pan Am plaza, and we’ll definitely stop by throughout the summer when we have lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants in the same strip…
