Mainstay Veterinary Practice

I have had pets all of my life. As someone who considers a pet as part of the family, I have always taken my pets to a vet who not only provided the care I expect for my pet but demonstrated their passion for the animals in their care.
With a move came the need to find a new Veteranarian practice. I consider myself and my pets fortunate to have found MVP. MVP has exceeded my expectations and surpasses any experience with my previous practice. I can feel the passion for their patients from every member of the practice.
A year ago I had a situation that unfortunately required putting a cat to sleep. Without going into detail, I will say the staff, who was aware of the circumstances, supported my decision and I feel fortunate she was in their care for her final moments. I received an outpouring of compassion and support from everyone which is most appreciated.
I have been taking my pets to MVP for four years and I continue to feel their passion for their patients and appreciate the additional services they provide to make make the life of a pet parent easier.

I am very pleased with this clinic. They always take time to answer all my questions in person, via e-​mail, or by phone. My dog has fear aggression and they are always calm and loving towards him even though they may not get that treatment back. I think their prices are competitive in the area. We moved away from the area but drive up from Lorton so our dog can continue to receive his primary care here.

I previously shared my unpleasant experience with MVP on Unilocal after I had two separate veterinarians look at my dog’s records and informed me that she received inadequate and improper care at this practice.
I have since removed it due to the aggressive phone call I received from a member of their staff about my opinion on the clinic. The employee continued to tell me that my review of their practice was wrong and that sharing my experience online was unfair to their clinic.
Without going into too much detail, I hope that no one ever has a similar experience while attempting to care for their sick pet (or get the same response after trying to leave a honest Unilocal review) through this practice.

My family has been to other vet practices and none are comparable to MVP. Dr. Hitt and Dr. C are thoughtful, caring, and attentive. We’ve been there 4 – 5 times in the past month so it helps that they are also reasonably priced for this area. I’ve even referred MVP to my extended family members and they’ve had wonderful experiences too.

I can’t say enough about Dr. Hitt. She is so thoughtful and careful. One of our dogs swallowed a dangerous object, and Dr. Hitt came in on her day off to see her. Dr. Hitt managed to get the object out of our dog without surgery, saving us a small fortune. I highly recommend this practice!

We are new to their practice and just brought our elderly dog there for the first time a couple months ago for a minor issue. Every one was so nice and he stayed extremely calm and it was a very pleasant experience. About three weeks ago, he started getting sick. We thought it was just a stomach bug, but it turns out he actually had late stage spleen & liver cancer with no possible chance of getting better & running the risk of dying a painful death. So, we had to euthanize him rather than risk him dying in pain and possibly alone while we were at work or asleep. As any pet owner knows, saying goodbye to your beloved pet is heartbreaking, but MVP was so kind. No one hurried us. They let us stay and sit with him as long as we needed and everyone was so incredibly empathetic. Their kindness helped get through the excruciating process. We are grateful to have learned of their practice and grateful for their support during this difficult time. They are lovely people and you can tell they are true animal lovers and this is not just another business to them. I brought my younger dog there today for a skin issue and she seems very comfortable with everyone. No body rushes you through anything. Everyone makes you and your pet feel welcome. If you haven’t brought your pet here — you should start. You will be glad you found them!

I find it hard to give this place a 5 star review, even though they very well may deserve it, because I have not been in person. However, my husband has. We got hooked up with this practice because we were woefully unimpressed with Northern Virginia’s cat clinic scene. Our old vet in Chicago recommended we give this place a try. I was doubious because they do not specialize in cats, but I was out of options.
We only took our cat here for a couple of appointments, as it turned out he had lymphoma. However, we were impressed with several things. 1. Dr. C was able to give my cat a good check-​up despite my two year old melting down due to fear of doctors. 2. Dr. C understood that we did not really have a lot of money to spend on an elderly cat, but still cared enough to try to agressively treat his symptoms and give him the best chance of survival or good palliative care. 3. Dr. C actually called several times to follow up with us to see how our cat was doing. 4. When we knew it was time to put our cat down, the vet saw us, despite not having any availability, so that we could put him down before he was in too much pain. 5. The office was smart enough not to charge us for the euthanasia until a few weeks later.
If we get another cat, we will be happy to bring it here.

I love this practice. By far the best I have ever used. We have three dogs total — 1 has severe food allergies, and the other 2 are very old and one of them was just diagnosed with bladder cancer (all diagnosed by MVP, sometimes when other vets missed the mark).
Both Dr. Hitt and Dr. C are wonderful. They love what they do and genuinely care about their patients and their owners. Their care has been great — They take their time with you and your pet and the techs are wonderful and really get to know your pets. Staff always answer questions promptly and the doctors will talk with you by phone on follow-​up or if something changes. They provide prompt emails with results as well.
They also have an amazing treatment and testing area — open, clean, modern — hell, I wish my doctor’s office was that nice. When the symptoms don’t add up, they will actually research and confer and get back to you with what they found, presenting the facts and options. All of this at fair prices. In fact, both are willing to tell you what is most critical to help you prioritize your budget.
My whole family takes their dogs there and between us all we have had some hard cases and intensive care over the years (we were some of their first patients based on a family friend/vet’s recommendation of a area good practice). Throughout it all, MVP has been better than the Southernly-​related emergency vet in the area ;) on quality of care and price. Tech call to let you know how your buddy is doing and will give you full readout of how they did during the day.
Also, for cat moms/​dads: they have separate exam rooms for cats vs. dogs, and are prompt to give you and your kitty some privacy and space –away from any dogs that may be in the office or waiting room.
All of this is why we drive from Arlington to take our guys to MVP!

My mother in law heard that Dr. Hitt was opening the practice only a mile from where we live. We have seen all three doctors now and they are all fabulous. They truly care about our dogs and offer excellent advice and treatment. Fawn is super responsive and helpful as well. Couldn’t ask for a better vet.

We’re fostering a cute Shepherd pup, and the rescue group uses MVP. The practice is awesome! First off, they help rescues… that’s an automatic 5 starts! Second, the office is so cool, the rooms are modern, clean, and beneficial to small and large pets. The staff is amazing, so friendly, patient and understanding. They are great with follow-​up calls, handle phone calls with the utmost in patience, and the location has lots of parking. They are right next door to the large MicroCenter tech store.

The veterinarians at Mainstay are excellent. We have two elderly dogs, and the doctors here are very patient and helpful with them. We have had their teeth cleaned and checked and eye conditions treated with good results. The staff members are friendly and helpful. Everyone seems to genuinely like animals.

I brought my 13 year old Chihuahua to Mainstay Veterinary Practice for her immunizations, and several other issues. Dr. C was very nice and practical and she didn’t try to sell me on a bunch of different products and services. Also, very attentive staff. I will definitely take my dog there is again.

We started taking our cat here when she needed medical attention after her usual vet’s office was closed for the day (and we didn’t want to pay through the nose to walk in the door of the emergency vet). After the impression MVP made on us during that first visit, we (the cat, actually) became regulars.
Doctor C. is exceptional! She and the staff handle my difficult cat calmly and carefully and obviously genuinely care for her health, comfort, and well-​being. The facility is clean and welcoming and the staff will make every effort to accommodate you and your pet’s needs.

Our oldest cat turned 20 today and even when I brought in another of our furry felines for an annual exam, she asked about him!
I would give MVP 10 stars if I could!

My star spread across all of my reviews are hardly ever just meh. It is because I love the place or hate the place. I love this place. My dog Bijou has/​had what Dr. C called a happy tail syndrome. So happy to see me when I come home that she hurt it and it never healed. Solving this «problem» has proven to be pretty frequent visits to the office.
My daily visits are coming to an end and each time it has been more than pleasant. Dr. Hitt, Dr. C, and Dr. McCourt have been wonderful and caring towards Bijou. Blaine and Brittany have been awesome pals to Bijou in helping her with her bandage changes. They have been upfront with what needs to be done and I’ve never noticed the prices to be unreasonable.
A friend of my fur baby is a friend of mine. I mean maybe the Beej is a unique one but she’s actually excited to goto the snack jar. I mean vet office.

Love the vets here. They do not over diagnose or over prescribe. I appreciate that so much. Prices are fair and reasonable. Their hours are amazing and convenient, more so than most places. Office is super clean, and there is a cats only room. Love that.

We have had great experiences with MVP. They were extremely easy to schedule with and all staff members were very friendly. Dr. Chamarande was excellent. We felt like both of our cats got specialized attention and she took the time to answer all of our questions about preventing future health concerns.

Dr. McCourt has been taking care of my cats for awhile. My boy cat, Mac, is a gentleman and is nice to his care team. My girl cat, Grace, is a bit difficult. She needs to be sedated to get her care. I hate having to do this, but Dr. McCourt and Ms. Baker the Vet Technician are outstanding. I know I don’t have to worry and Grace gets the best care. I love going to a clinic that knows how to handle cats in a caring and professional manner. Grace is a beautiful long hair blonde. Her hair keeps her too warm in the summer, so Dr. McCourt and Ms. Baker went the extra mile after her exam and give her a trim. She was a much happy cat after that. I recommend Mainstay for other cat families.
