Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores

this is my go to Joanne’s even though the store at Wheaton Mall is closer. (Always messier there and longer wait times). Almost always find what I am looking for and staff are helpful and polite. Long lines at huge sales and near holidays so always go early or late in the day then.

We celebrated our daughter’s 10’th birthday here and it was a delightful experience. Special thanks to Barbara and Dawn for a memorable party. Barbara is very patient instructor, she customized the craft party to suit my daughter’s taste and the skill level to match the age group. She made sure everyone could finish the sewing project and was very generous to give us some extra time to wrap up the pizza lunch. They sewed colorful mini pillows with tags that can be attached to keychains, bagpacks etc. They got a variety of shapes to choose from — cup cakes, icecream cones, owl etc. The party was very well organized and all the supplies were included in the price ($ ¹²⁵⁄₈ kids, which I think is awesome).

Love this location! It was my second time in the store today and my experience was even greater than the first. Even though it’s a 30 minute drive, (compared to 12 minute drive to the other Joann’s in seven corners), it is now my go to store.
They have great selection and the staff is very friendly. I waited at the cutting line maybe 5 minutes and the ladies there are super nice. When it was time to pay, I waited 7 minutes tops. The cashier asked if I had a coupon, and I gave her the 20% off total purchase, she then asked if I had another, so I used the 40%off a reg item, (I didn’t know you could use more than one per transaction, since you can’t do that online), she then asked again if I had any other coupon and luckily I had the app retailmenot and found yet another coupon for 50% off a reg item. So I used a total of 3 coupons! I just thought it was very nice of her make sure I was getting the best price possible (something you don’t see at any other store!).

The people cutting the fabric need some training. I asked for 1 ¼ yd and she cut it so badly that at best I have a yard and 2 inches that’s useable. If I pay $ 10 /​yard for fabric I expect to use what I buy. When I pointed out how she cut it, she told me that’s how they are supposed to do it. So how does that help me?
I needed 1 ¼ yards. I didn’t get even close to that.
Take my advice and go someplace else.

Walked out today without purchasing anything. Line was about a dozen people deep and moving slowly.

Very overpriced and coupons kind of suck. Michaels is nearby and much cheaper. If you have to shop at Joan fabrics make sure you get a coupon from their website you can save 30 – 50 percent on 1 regularly priced item and you’ll find coupons like 20 percent off entire purchase. But as for my opinion I’d say either go to Michaels or buy online (usually cheapest option).

OMG!!! The comment below about the manager who acts as of she owns the whole store I agree 100%. I was waiting in line and she was yelling the Muslim employee in front of all the customers and was humiliating her to where I was about to say something. I also agree with a majority of the Unilocal review about the waiting line is never fast and with having issues on keeping same employees it gives clear sign something is not going right in this store.

As with others already said, there’s almost always a line. In my experience, customers who don’t understand how coupons end up arguing with the cashier and holds up the line. Last time there was a lady who argued for a good 10 minutes with the only cashier, and continued after another cashier came to keep the line going. She was still there even when I left the store after 15 – 20 minutes. So… PLEASE learn how coupons work and don’t argue with them for things they can’t control! The poor cashier was SO patient with her. They really should have more than just one cashier at a time, though.

Worst customer service I have experienced anywhere in a long time! Tried to return a shadow box frame, which I purchasd with a coupon. I wanted a different size so actually I wanted an exchange. They made a big production of writing ‘void’ on the coupon when I bought it, gave my coupon back to me with additional coupons but the receipt wasn’t in my bag when I got home. On my lunch break the next day, I went in to see if I could make the exchange. I asked the lady at the guest service desk, however, another lady (an asst manager maybe) walked up and sneered at me and told me an exchange was not possible without a receipt. They never offered to look my purchase up or assist otherwise. They gave me store credit for 50% of the value and acted like they were doing me a favor. Not only were they extremely rude in the explanation of their policy, they did not ask to assist with buying the item I actually wanted. Therefore, I had to search for the same item again in the store and then wait in a very slow moving line. Will not purchase anything there ever again and will relay negative experience to my co-​workers.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS a line! You may know exactly what you need to grab but you won’t get out in under 25 minutes. They have six registers but always only start with one and call one more person to the front when the line grows to six or more people. It is horribly run. :/

We had a project to start reupholstering our set of 6 chairs. So we went in to buy fabric, foam, and some other odds and ends. We found the perfect fabric but they didn’t have enough in stock. So we asked if we could order it. Before we placed the order placed the order we asked her at least 5 times if we were able to return what we were ordering. She said yes over and over. Ended up not needing all that we ordered so we went to return it. The cashier told us we can’t. So I asked for a manager. The manager said we can’t. I asked to speak with the woman that sold the fabric to us. Her name was Cynthia. She flat out lied to her manager and myself that she would never say that and I was lying to her manager.
Neither manager was willing to fix the issue. I called customer service and they said it was up to the manager to do the return. This location doesn’t care about customer service and thinks they are so much better than anyone else. Don’t shop at this location, it is worth driving to a different store to have staff that is helpful.

I went to Jo-​ann fabrics looking for ribbon that you would tie on a balloon. I was pretty certain this was carried in their store but I was unable to find the product. I asked 3 different sales associates I found around the store. the first one directed me to the back of the store, where I did not find the product. The second one used her radio to ask her coworkers, who again directed me to the wrong aisle. The third one informed me that they do not sell this product. On my way out of the store, I walked down an aisle to exit and found the product I was looking for! I was pretty upset

Come here all the time for baking supplies. I just wish they had more cashiers. They line is always super long. Very convenient to where I live. Love it!

Terrible,
I went to this store 4 times to get cricut pen’s for my machine and every single time there was not a single set of pen’s on the floor except for one package that clearly was broken and one of the pen’s had leaked all over the package.
Every time I went in there I asked for assistance and if they had any shipments in the back, they would go check and come back with nothing and tell me that shipments come every week and to check back in next week.
I even contacted customer service… twice and they have not responded at all and it has now been a month since my first email to them.
Terrible customer service and product sales.

Under staffed and very poorly managed. Honestly, there’s not a good thing about this place. I have gone numerous times and every time I leave saying to myself, «why did you just waste an hour of your life!?»
Now this place is amazing if you enjoy waiting in a line of 35 people deep to buy $ 10 of fabrics. Oh an then you get to wait an additional thirty minutes to pay for your merchandise because they have two cash registers open for 50+ guests on a Saturday afternoon.
Clearly this place needs an Operations Manager.

Omg this is NOT An in/​out on your lunch place. One cashier and six in line. Better plan to spend time in here. Make that eight in line. And not moving.

Craft supplies galore… and thousands of bolts of fabric. There is usually a line for fabric cutting, be prepared to take a number and wait for the «Now serving number…» announcement.
I went the day after a 50% off sale the Sunday after Black Friday. The store was in total disarray but I guess that is to be expected due to my poor choice of days to visit.
Employees were nice.

Horrible experience at this store. The foam section is disorganized and dirty with foam sitting on the floor. I can overlook that since it was a busy holiday. Until… you try to return a roll and they complain that it’s dirty. Uh hello… have you seen your store lately? That’s how I bought it!
They use a number system at the cutting station and were 30 people behind!!! The cutter rolled her eyes when she saw I had foam to measure. Will not go back. Leesburg store employees are way nicer and helpful! Or, G-​street fabrics in Centreville is a much nicer experience.

This store is understaffed and poor let run! They consistently have a long line at the cutting table and I’ve never seen more than one person at the checkout. Just running in for two or three things today took over an hour.

This place is craft lovers DREAM! There’s always a sale or better yet a clearance section and I lucked out this time. FALL CLEARANCE ITEMS. I’ll be coming back this week to stock up on more decorations and goodies :).

Huge selection of fabrics and crafts. I came here to look for some fabric to make a cape out of for a 5k. I was overwhelmed with so many fabrics but a nice lady helped me find the perfect one. I found a coupon on their website as I was walking in the store so be sure to look for coupons to use. Very clean, well organized and friendly employees.

It’s a Joann’s Fabric… I am not sure what else to say. This store is okay, it is usually pretty clean, they offer coupons (I have the mobile app and it is much easier than trying to remember your coupons), the people at the registers are usually much nicer than the people cutting fabric. The fabric cutting center is usually really busy and takes a while to get your fabric cut. I kind of wish there were more options to buy fabric in the area. But if you need fabric, this is obviously the ideal place to go.

JOANN Fabrics is a bit like Bed Bath and Beyond in the sense that if you don’t bring a coupon or go during a sale, you are going to get ripped off. The pocket book pain won’t be alleviated by friendly faces either.
This location is often very busy with a long line for cutting fabric and slow lines at check out. Although there are often employees milling about, I have never been asked if I needed help with something or finding something. I stood contemplating which sewing scissors to buy for almost 10 minutes while a group of employees chatted nearby without acknowledging me.
The front checkout people are not the fastest or friendliest. They generally cannot scan your phone coupon but try for several minutes before giving up and typing it in manually.
Overall, a crowded, overpriced experience with unfriendly staff. The prices with coupon or sale are generally about as much as Amazon.

I feel like this location is always super busy, understaffed and they are often out of the one last item on my list.

The Good News: Good selection.
The Bad News: the aisles are too narrow to have 2 carts pass each other in, and this makes shopping awkward and chock full of passive-​aggression from the employees as well as your fellow shoppers.
Staff is pretty unhelpful and too self-​involved. I felt many of them were snappy when I asked simple questions (like how much my total was, cause she whispered it the first time, and it wasn’t showing up correctly on my side). Most were just too busy conversing among themselves and I felt as I was the intruder.
I got what I went for but do not plan to return here again.

This place seems to always be crowded. I guess it goes to show that there are more creative people out there than I thought, eh? What I appreciate about Joann Fabrics, they always seem to have have wonderful sales. Recently, I went in to purchase a LOT of yarn for my friend overseas. I was not disappointed in the price because I went in armed with coupons on top of the already low mark down price.
I use to be a G Street Fabric kinda girl, but I think I have been converted…
