Deb Rubin Dance & SattyaBody

Deb is a great teacher! I really love her classes. I’ve sampled a lot of classes and workshops from all over the bay, and Deb still stands out as one of the best teachers. I really like all the variety she adds to her classes, and the extra stuff she throws in, like some of her yoga expertise and therapeutic stretching for dancers. I also like that she asks for input from the students regarding what they want to learn. You’ll get a really great workout from her class as well!

I have absolutely been loving belly dance class with Deb Rubin!!! I just started taking classes with her 6 months ago when a friend told me about it.
Dancing with Deb is great! The first hour is yoga/​stretching/​warm up and the second hour is a really great belly dance workout!
The first time I went I was completely amazed by the yoga for belly dancers warm-​up that Deb does. I turned to my friend and said, «Wow, that was just the warm up?» I thought the warm up was quite a workout in itself! The yoga and stretching does amazing things for my body and posture, and Deb really knows how to explain correct alignment and where you’re supposed to be feeling the stretch.
The second hour is belly dance, and it’s an amazing workout! Sometimes we follow the moves that Deb is doing and sometimes we come up with mini dance sequences or practice moves that people in the class want to work on. It’s a lot of fun, and I’ve definitely lost weight and have gotten more toned just by going to class! I am also learning to control the different muscles in my body for belly dance moves.
Class is on Tuesday nights from 8 – 10 pm at Danspace in Rockridge. Drop-​in is $ 20. Bring a yoga mat for the warm up. The class is really mixed-​level so anyone can come. Beginners are welcome. Deb is really great, and it’s a lot of fun! Come join us!!!

Deb! please say you are staying at Shoebox Studio for good! or at least coming back. Your class is helping me so much. My lame a$$ arms (yeah who knew tadpoles have arms right?) are improving and I understand downward dog now. I know for a fact everyone else LOVES your class too!

Last summer (2008) I got bit by the Tribal Fusion Bellydance bug at Kosmos Camp. So when Deb sent me an e-​mail about a new 2 hour class that she was starting that combined yoga for dancers plus bellydance I was there! I am so happy that i followed this muse. Deb is a superb yoga instructor and an equally superb bellydance teacher. I feel that I am learning excellent fundamentals and technique — which I really need since this is a completely new dance form for me. The class is held on Tuesday eves from 8:00 to 10:00 P. M at Dancespace in Oakland. I’m driving there from Marin, so you know it has to be a fabulous class. In November Deb added a performance series, which runs from 7:00 to 8:00 P. M – right before the regular class. Now I am going for 3 hours every Tuesday — which tells you this is an incredibly fabulous class or I’m certifiable (could be?) In addition to her wonderful class at Dancespace, Deb also conducts workshops and retreats in the SF Bay Area and beyond. I attended her Yoga/​Bellydance retreat on the Big Island in December, which she co-​taught with Bellydance Superstar, Sharon Kihara. And if that isn’t enough, Deb also produces SF Mecca Immersion, a multiple day Bellydance extravaganza, featuring some of the biggest names in tribal fusion bellydancing. So if you are thinking about trying bellydance, Deb’s class is THE place to start. Or if you want to improve your technique, then shimmy on down to Dancespace on Tuesday nights.
