Goodwill Donation Express

I’ve donated to this location a few times and the last interaction prompted me to write this review. Okay, so lemme just state for the record that I do love nonprofits and how they support our community. Especially during these trying economic times!
HOWEVER, just like for-​profit organizations, nonprofits need to uphold their end of the deal by remaining competitive in order to survive. Especially in the area of customer service!
So I come here with a carload full of household items and clothing. It is pouring rain and cold. I could have easily donated to any of the agencies that mails out those neon-​colored postcards where they pick up at your house. But something about Goodwill, the name recognition and the fact that they’ve been around for yonks… I figured I’d donate there. (On a balance sheet I wonder what Goodwill’s «goodwill» value is? LOL.)
I had to ask a reluctant guy to please help me unload some items. Did he help? Well, if you consider rolling a trolley out to the end of the curb «helping». I still had to take everything out by myself and load into the trolley. He asked if I needed a receipt. I am not up to date with what you need to provide (photos? itemized lists?) so I asked him. He shrugged, «I dunno.» No thank you, no nothing!
Folks at Goodwill: it wouldn’t hurt to provide some basic customer service training to the employees who work at these donation centers. They are the face of Goodwill and for some donors, are probably the only interaction they will have with Goodwill employees! A small pamphlet on donation guidelines to hand out would be good too. C’mon Goodwill, step it up! You have other competing nonprofits who would GLADLY take people’s stuff! Build up some donor loyalty!
