Said they were open till 11pm showed up 5 after 10pm and denied service. Pretty rude if you ask me.

Friendly, Neighborhood, Old School, Quality, Charming, Cozy. I could go on but you get the idea. Make it a point in your life to come here and enjoy the simple pleasures of life;eating ice cream. It’s that good. Stopping here today after lunch was like stepping back in time. They have a bunch of different flavors to try so there’s your excuse to come here more than once. Tables and booths inside with lawn chairs outside. The Door County cherry and the Mackinac Island fudge paired very well together. Already thinking of my next 2 flavors for my next visit.

I’d love to visit here more often as we live around the corner. However, they do not have a soy-based/vegan ice cream option. I have a child that has a dairy allergy and it is no fun for him. We go other places with more of a wide variety of options.

I don’t eat ice cream but my kids love this place. Lots of flavors to choose from and my kids are always satisfied. It would be kind of nice if the employees were a little less focused on their cell phones and a little more on the customers, though.

Fantastic ice cream at Hartigan’s. Semi-affordable for Central St in Evanston, but definitely delicious and worth a visit. I had the Sea Turtle flavor and it was one of the best ice creams of my life.

Really great ice cream albeit pretty overpriced. The shop reminds me of what Baskin-Robbins used to be like years ago when I was a kid. We enjoyed their ice cream sitting outside at a picnic table and it hit the spot. They have a huge selection, let you sample whatever you please, and had plenty of seating when we went. A great little shop to stop by during the summer.

They have superman! I was so excited to find an ice cream parlor. Everything nowadays is all froyo. But finding here was great!

I slipped in before closing time for a scoop after dinner, not much to report, standard fare, if I missed the specialness, do let me know what to keep an eye out for next time.

We discovered Cedar Crest ice cream in Door County on vacation and decided to search for a local place that served it and were ecstatic when we discovered Hartigan’s. The flavors are incredibly creative and absolutely delicious. If you like more basic flavors, those are wonderful too. It’s truly high end, premium ice cream and is several steps above both Bobtail and Homer’s. It’s a bit more expensive but I think it’s well worth it given the high quality. It’s family-run(not a chain) and I like that aspect too. It’s a cute place with several booths inside as well as outdoor seating. Caramel Collision and Coconut Joy are two of my favorite flavors and my kids love Pirate’s Booty and Cookie Monster. If you are an ice cream lover, you have to try it!!!

Ice cream is fine. Prices are on the high side and then the servings are really small for price. Meh…

This is my go-to Evanston ice cream spot. Having grown up on Wilson’s up in Door County, I’m always excited to see Cedar Creek ice cream. Lots of good flavors and always pleasant service — it’s a win win. I’m an all year round ice cream eater — it’s nice to have a go-to spot that has indoor seating for those cold winter nights that demand ice cream. I have also relied on Hartigan’s for ice cream cakes and the cakes do not disappoint. Especially wonderful for all of the summer birthdays in my family.

You can definitely tell that this charming ice cream parlor was once a Baskin Robbins/31 Flavors – same layout, and even the ice cream buckets look familiar. However, the ice cream is creamier and the flavors more unique than anything I remember BR/31 serving. «Black Magic»(chocolate ice cream with white chocolate pretzels and a raspberry swirl) at $ 6 a pint is somewhat pricey, but oh well… it’s my new addiction. It’s still cheaper than cigarettes or booze. As another reviewer pointed out, the staff are very young, and are often being visited by groups of their teenage friends. They still manage to be extremely patient, polite, and respectful(which is more than I can say for some adults in the service industry). They have colorful little spoons available for sampling as many flavors as you’d like. Credit cards are not accepted, but they do take debit and checks.(You read that right… checks! It doesn’t get more Mom and Pop than that!)

Obsessed. They have so many creative flavors that I’ve never seen before(and I’m a huge ice cream lover) it’s old fashioned on the inside and packed with families. Outdoor seating too which is nice in the summer.

If you love a place that smells like cinnamon and sugar, even a block before you reach the Shoppe, you’ll love Hartigans. I was introduced to this place by a friend and enjoyed a lovely Friday evening over delicious ice cream, froyo and easy going chatter. You’ll see families, high schoolers, kids I their baseball uniforms come here on a typical Friday night. The staff are very young(maybe the neighborhood high schoolers) but they are pleasant and patient, enough so that you can try as many favors as you want before making a decision. They are really great with kids here, and outside there are picnic bench tables to enjoy the warm weather. There is a parking lot across the street with angled parking and plenty of street parking along the residential tree-lined streets. I got a kid’s single scoop on a sugar cone(which is actually the perfect size for me, post-dinner) but there are a wealth of other sizes and cones to choose from– their waffle cones seem to be very popular. The featured flavor that I got-the name escapes me now– was a caramel ice cream with salted caramel ribbons and slivers of almonds. REALLY, really good, with a generous amount of almonds for a good crunch. Their flavors here are really unique, especially their Mackinac Island Fudge flavors, one with the normal fudge and another with mint. Having been to Mackinac and having tried their fudge there a while back… I knew their ice cream would be quality. I’ll have to order that next time. This is a great neighborhood«shoppe» with great flavors, a small hometown feel, all the happy feelings of summertime nostalgia and a satisfying place to get your sweet tooth fix!

I came here when this was a 31 flavors and after it became a Hartigan’s, it is still just as good. Great selection of flavors and toppings.

I like that it’s not a chain, and that they do offer a frozen yogurt option or 2 for those trying to mind their calories. I also like that they offer kid size cones. Prices are congruent with other north shore establishments. It has a friendly neighborhood store feel. The time I was there, the interior floor could have used a little sprucing up. Nothing a sweep and mop wouldn’t have fixed. Cash only.

I love Hartigans! Marcia the owner is one of the sweetest women I have ever met, she truely cares about her business & has put her whole heart into it. The ice cream is to die for! They get special flavors in based on the season too, mmmm apple pie & pumpkin cheesecake for thanksgiving! My favorite is a drink(… Something sunrise… not tequila ;) Its sherbert & Seltzer and maybe some lemon or lime juice? I foget but its the PERFECT cool-off and wake up treat! The staff is young, and learning the in’s– and –out’s of customer service. They’re good kids for the most part. Just don’t forget it’s cash only!

If you are looking for good ice cream with a side of 1985… come to Hartigan’s! It’s like time stands still in there. It’s definitely an old-school ice cream shop, but has so many flavors that I overlooked the fact that you can only pay cash. They make all their own waffle cones(maybe every ice cream place does this, but I was impressed at the time) and they have like a thousand different milkshakes, sundaes, etc. Being a city girl it was nice to venture up to the North Shore and try Hartigans. It’s no Homer’s, but maybe a close second?
