Candlewood Suites Watertown-Fort Drum

This was a great hotel! Excellent customer service at check in and the room was very clean and well appointed. The kitchenette was fully equipped but we didn’t use it. Comfy beds and strong water pressure in the shower. The WiFi worked well. Would stay here again!

I LOVE this place! I chose this place based on the filters that I wanted on Expedia. With the fear of my first-​time booking a suite, I don’t regret it at all because it was amazing! The room of the Queen Suite is very relaxing and had everything I needed from cooking ware to kitchen accessories! Not to mention that this is in a quiet area and within a minute walking distance to Wal-​Mart for groceries. To add, there are other fast-​food restaurants within the same area too! :)

Good location and nice amenities but needs some fixes here and there. The staff was very nice and overall I enjoyed my stay here but it wasn’t great. I stayed here for work and the reservation was made for me based mostly on location.
I didn’t have a choice in the reservation and I’ve never stayed at a Candlewood Suites Hotel before. I usually prefer Hilton brands so this was a change and the Candlewood Suites was definitely okay. There’s also a Holiday Inn in Watertown as well as a Hampton Inn I think but this hotel is the closest to Fort Drum. I’ve seen Candlewood Suites on the road as they all look the same; this location was no different. Definitely nicer than a Hampton Inn because the rooms are suites. Here the size and amenities in the rooms really make a difference.
Housekeeping is only every couple of days but it never seemed to be an issue since I don’t go through towels or make a big mess. Even when the trash can got full it seemed that was on the light clean up day. So no complaints about housekeeping. The lobby and common areas are pretty plain; typical lower end hotel. There’s a decent fitness room (as well as a mile long road out back perfect for a run) and a free laundry which was great. There’s also something called «The Cupboard» which sold snacks and hygiene items and laundry detergent. The prices were pretty fair and coffee and tea were free.
But there’s also Walmart just a five minute walk away from the hotel. So I was able to buy groceries and bring them back to the room. There’s also a pizza place and a Chinese restaurant as well as some fast food outlets. It was pretty nice being able to bring food back to the room, especially because the kitchen in my room had a full-​sized refrigerator and a big microwave, dishwasher and two burner electric stove. I never used the stove but I did use the refrigerator and microwave a lot as well as the dishwasher. Some of my co-​workers cooked a real dinner for themselves using the stove and the provided pots and pans.
I didn’t spend a lot of time in the room because I was here for work, but when I was I was happy with the number of channels on the television, the comfort of the bed, the recliner, and I found the room to be pretty quiet. The blackout drapes worked great, unlike some more luxurious hotels I’ve stayed in, so I slept pretty soundly even in the afternoon. Unfortunately the heater /​AC are on a motion detector which didn’t always work well and my room was often chilly in the morning when I got up, and the refrigerator tended to make a lot of noise. That didn’t bother me too much but I did hear other guest complaining about it. I also started a routine which meant getting up earlier so the room would start to warm up before I showered. Otherwise I literally shivered as I got dressed in the morning.
So there were a lot of little annoyances which shaded my opinion of this hotel. For instance, the dryers in the laundry were small and it took an hour to dry a small load of laundry. Also there’s no canopy in front of the hotel so if it’s raining (and it rains in Northern New York) you’ll get drenched as I did. The wifi was free but slow. Combined with the low water pressure in the shower, I have to give the hotel only 3 stars.
Overall not a bad stay just not that I’m in a hurry to stay here again.

Location, right outside main gate of drum.
Walmart and strip mall in walking distance.
Other fast food in area 1 mile.
The bad:
Rooms are dirty.
I found human hair on sheets, pillows, lamp shades (guess from shaking sheets), shower curtain.
I found dog hair on edge of my tub. A lot, a big fur ball, nasty!!!
Found hair on my sink.
Because they are extended stay. They only do house keeping once a week.
No breakfast. Not even a continental. But they do have coffee, (free) and snacks for sale (hot pickets, milk, juice) stuff like that.
They are expensive even with military rate. No weekly rates. I would only recommend if you have pets.
With pets… all rooms are pet friendly, so there was no way I could have asked for a non pet room and escape the dog hair.

While waiting for our apartment, we stayed here for a few weeks and service was amazing! They accepted our large breed dog which is always a plus. They’re a little on the pricey side, even with military discount and loved that they were right down the street from Drum.

Overall good experience. Room was very clean and comfortable for the price. Had access to free internet, laundry room and fitness center. Unfortunately, there is no continental breakfast at this hotel. They do occasionally offer free food for their guests. It’s a little pricey (139.99/night) considering there isn’t much to do in the area.
