Had to leave at 2am because of the suspicious behavior of the permanent tenants. Upon meeting him, it became obvious that one tenant lacked the personal boundaries common to most, and it seemed that he stayed up until midnight for myself and my boyfriend to return home. We decided to just spend our time behind the closed door of our room, but were again concerned when the three other residents took turns stopping in front of our door in quick succession, for unusually long periods of time(they all used the bathroom at the same time right after we arrived, and I wasn’t sure why they would stop outside our door instead of just entering the bathroom immediately). All of these behaviors were unsettling, but we reasoned that these men were just strange middle aged men that were curious about a couple of young hostelers in their home. This was the point at which we retrieved some food from our car, and returned to the living room to find A MANWAITINGSILENTLYINTHEDARK. I waited for a moment when it registered that there was someone in the living room, but after half a minute I asked«Is there someone in here?» After a few long moments the person in the living room began to nervously apologize. I told him to turn on the light and he continued to apologize, quickly escaping to his room. Perhaps the residents were harmless people with social anxieties that didn’t allow them to rent apartments that weren’t attached to a guest house, but their behavior made me wonder if Mi Casita required a background check of the people that stayed past the usual hosteler’s 2 weeks or less. I was worried for my personal safety. The real reason why I believe Mi Casita deserves the lowest possible rating is the response of the owners to our complaints. When we told them we were unable to sleep there because a basic amenity was not available(referring to our personal safety), we were rudely told that«it was a business», denied a refund, and denied apology. We were told that this experience is common to hostels and should be expected(it should be noted that most hostels have a 2 week maximum stay), even though we explained that we had both been to many hostels and never had anything like this happen to us before. This was a difficult situation for us because we had to pay for hotel room for the remainder of the night, and we really couldn’t afford it. I definitely do not recommend that anyone stay at Mi Casita Guest House. I found their treatment of myself and my boyfriend to be completely unsatisfactory.
