Established in 2014.

Terrain grew out of the fusion of Nathan Smith Landscape Design and Lance Parker Landscaping Inc. bringing together a shared strong mix of practical horticultural and construction experience infused with continual creative inspiration and reinvention. We share a passion for clean, simple and unique landscapes with an emphasis on sustainability and sensitivity to the surrounding environment.

Meet the Business Owner

Nathan S.

Business Owner

Nathan and Lance area experienced horticulturists and designers with more than 30 years combined experience in the field. Prior to working in landscape design and construction Nathan worked as a nurseryman and horticulturist at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and as the horticulturist responsible for the 14 acre California collection at the University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley. Lance worked in the retail and wholesale nursery businesses in Santa Barbara prior to starting and running his own award winning landscaping company, serving as president of Lance Parker Landscaping, Inc. for more than ten years before formally joining forces with Nathan.

Nathan and Lance both studied Environmental Studies at UCSB. Nathan pursued further education in landscape architecture through UC Berkeley Extension while Lance pursued studies in Landscape Architecture at UCLA.
