Tan At the Islands

Have been coming here on and off for the last year for spray tans. This last time the Versa machine was having a slight issue and my spray tan didn’t show up a my all. We came back in and Vanessa took care of us and was incredibly sweet and helpful!

I came here after my mother in law recommended that they do amazing work. She was right. I had Ali, the Manger airbrush me for my bachelorette and wedding. She was very kind and professional. she even helped touch up some spots that smeared when I was grabbing my purse. I recommend this place and Ali. I was very happy

I have been a long time client and stuck by them through new management and increasing costs. Although I will miss the employees especially Becca this is a business and I have only see things change not for the better. Music was never re introduced, there have been on going cost changes and now you cannot do yearly. I don’t know if this is sustainable for them but I had no problem finding another place in Encinitas with better model beds, music, you can pay yearly, only 5 minutes more away on the 101 and at a huge cost savings. This is unfortunate, companies should be working on keeping existing customers. I am so disappointed!

Very dirty and front desk is so unorganized and unfriendly. Tan is okay but not worth the price. Owners need to clean the floors, bathroom, and rooms. I Have a friend that switched to leacadia tan. I’ll try ! I got a huge rash from dirty bed. I’m horrified

I have always received great service and product at Tan At the Islands. Everyone is very nice and helpful. Been doing the leg tan for a couple of years. Looking forward to trying the Versa soon!

Horrible owners. Jack up the prices and downgrade. They raised the package price by 20 dollars within a month. The owner Allie has no clue what she is doing and knows nothing about the business. She is very rude and obviously cheap. Jack up the prices and take away music and basically overall experience. Allie seriously needs to learn how to treat people and how to make the customers happy. I suggest you do not go to this tanning salon. DO NOT give them your business.

For those of you who aren’t aware, Cindy no longer is the owner of Tan at the Islands (unfortunately).Let me just start by saying the new owners raised the prices. I used to buy a month membership in the basic bed I believe for 40 $ plus tax. now that bed is about 59 $ plus tax. They offer no coupons anymore besides for new customers. How about offer coupons for loyal customers that have been there for 10+ years? Another downfall is they discontinued the music. It really is not fun laying in a bed for 15 minutes with absolutely no sound to help relax. trying to figure out why in the world am I paying extra for a membership when they cant even offer music for us? What is so special? They added in some high end clothing to the boutique there for we all have to pay extra to tan? Pretty sure when I go into a tanning salon I look for tanning quality over boutique items or gaudy overpriced jewelry. Jewelry is not cute at all. Don’t think I will be paying $ 60 for a cheap/​gaudy looking ring. Overall, its such a shame that new owners come in and completely jack up the prices (for no reason), take away music, and focus on the boutique. Let me just add that the woman owner has NO customer services skills or hospitality what so ever. A friend of mine confronted her and asked why the prices raised so much and there’s no longer music. She had no reply and got very defensive. All we wanted to know is why are we paying more for a downgrade. The next time we came in, the woman owner would not even look up to greet us when we walked in nor would she check us in. As we left she finally came out from behind the wall, couldn’t even receive a simple, «thank you goodnight». Encinitas is a very small town, and if anyone thinks they can take over ownership at the most popular tanning salon with loyal customers and not get questioned in regards to prices, then maybe they are in the wrong business. Learn some hospitality/​people skills, and don’t rob peoples money. Will not recommend this salon anymore to anyone that I know.

I have spray tanned at salons all over the country. The friendliness and comfort I get from the staff from the time I walk in is unparalleled. I wish I could hang out with them all day!
Not only was the experience great but it’s the best color I have ever achieved from a sunless session.
Becca and Karli are true airbrush artists, They make you look thinner and know the exact shade to use on you.

Don’t go here. Prepaid for body wrap sessions. Was attacked and had torn artery and traumatic brain injury while visiting Arizona. Months in hospitals. Never been stable enough to go back home to Encinitas. They would not refund my unused package.
Way to be all for your money.

Definitely a decent tan. Probably better than most places, but the atmosphere isn’t that impressing. The beds are separated by dividers, not individual rooms. The employees could be a little friendlier too.

Place looks nice… I tanned at a level 1 bed and they gave me a nice tan without the burn. Staff is decent but can recommend products if you ask

FANTASTIC! I had an awesome first time experience. The girls were extremely helpful and very quick with setting me up to go! When i got in the room for the ultra tanning bed, it was super clean and felt super homey. I have olive colored skin and got a really great glow after going for about 10 min. I have now been coming here for about 3 months and just as happy as the first day i walked in.

Tan at the Islands is a one stop shop. Great tanning equipment, skin care products, spray tan options, boutique with cute and fashionable clothes, jewelry, and sandals! I went in to get a spray tan and left with a new outfit too. I’ve been to many tanning salons and this salon is by far the most impressive. The staff members are always friendly and helpful. I have gone twice now and both Airbrush technicians I saw made me feel very comfortable and I had the same result with my color. My tan was very natural looking and it lasted almost two weeks! I received a tour of the salon during my first visit and the staff member explained all of the equipment to me so that I could make the best decision for myself. Packages are the best way to go because the deals are hard to beat, especially for the result! I’m so glad that I found this place, I highly recommend it.

LOVED the Versa Spa here! This tanning salon is clean and overall well kept. When I am in San Diego and need a quick spray tan fix, I will definitely be back. My tan was even, natural looking, and it lasted about 1 ½ weeks! Next time I will probably purchase at least a 3 pack, the prices seem to reflect a significant savings once you buy a package!

Glad I found this place! Just purchased a tanning package last week. Friendly, informative staff. Place is clean, easy in/​out. I had alot of questions & they were all answered without attitude or haste. Highly recommend this place. plus they have a no uv red light therapy bed that most tanning salons don’t have.

I had a holiday party to get ready for. Tan at the Islands had a great coupon for a bring a friend for a spray tan and get one free. So since I haven’t seen the sun in about 2 years I figured I’d go so I could look great in my dress. The girls who worked there were wonderful! My friend and I had different girls, and afterward we both made the comment that they were so professional. I felt very comfortable. That’s a big deal when your standing naked in front of a stranger freezing for about 15 min. (the spray is cold not the room) I think if I ever need a spray tan or even want to use a bed again I will go back here.

Get what you pay for. Yes pricey but what do you expect in this neighborhood? Always clean and staff is very kind and they always know your name. I appreciate that kind of service. Up to date on the latest beds and airbrush machines. No complaints about this place my friends

USUALLY when I go in here, the girls are really nice. There is one woman who I think is the owner (or perhaps manager) who is incredibly sweet. Once or twice I’ve been there and the girl working copped major ‘tude… You know, the type of girl who always has that look on her face like she’s smelling sh-​t?
The versa spa is AWESOME, way better than mystic… unless you enjoy the oompa loompa look. It’s even, it looks natural and it’s super fast. Don’t pay full price for the Versa Spa packages though. They always have coupons in the get1free magazines and I think they do a deal through Unilocal.Yes, aside from Miss «I’m better than you because I work at the tanning salon», I highly recommend this place. p. s. they have a well-​stocked boutique of cute clothes, Ed Hardy hats and bathing suits, giant cocktail rings and a bunch of other really stylish (somewhat expensive) accessories that I can’t pull of because I am a) not a Real Housewife of Orange County nor b) Rachel Zoe
