This tucked away yarn shop is noteworthy for it’s spectrum of yarn choices; merino wools with cashmere and silk or nylon — many colorful, varied fibers to choose. Excellent broad choice of needles. Your purchased schene can be machine — balled in 3 seconds. So appreciated. The owner’s vast knowledge and helpfulness is at the top of her class. She is a perceptive teacher.

Visited during the 2015 San Diego Yarn Crawl. Nice selection of yarn. Especially if you love Madeline Tosh(which is hard to find in San Diego). Pretty friendly staff. Haven’t seen a class or KAL on their website that has really called out to me yet.

Great little yarn shop tucked away in nondescript strip mall in Encinitas. Can be difficult to find since the name of the shop, common threads, is not on any sign that faces the street but instead they have a sign that says yarn shop on the second story of a veterinary practice. Once you figure out the location, the rest is pretty easy. Nicely if not tightly arranged yarn shop has many organic beautiful hand woven cotton yarns. Personalized attention from the single shop owner can be nice if you need help selecting something or correcting a stitch in your work. This shop hosts a relaxing knitting circle open to the public on Fridays beginning at 2PM and lasting until you feel like leaving. They had an excellent selection of knitting needles and accoutrements as well as yarns. Bring your checkbook, because this place is highly addicting!

This is a pretty good yarn shop. I love the new location — they have a parking lot that is just a tiny bit up a hill, and in a strip mall. The ladies here are nice. Not super friendly and welcoming, but nice enough. They have a GOOD selection of yarns: nice, new/trendy, great colorways, good quality, as well as the tried-and-true. If I don’t even know what I’m looking for, I’ll be tempted by something! The prices are kind of high, but considering this is the best selection of yarn in North County, it’s worth it. While I maintain that the inventory at any San Diego LYS is practically the same as any other San Diego yarn shop, this one has the best variety and quality in North County. If you’ve been to one SDLYS, you’ve been to them all(with variances of customer service and which local dyers they carry), but this one is worth popping into or making your primary shop.

First, really does have a great selection of yarn. Second, I’m so glad I didn’t make the long drive to attend one of their knitting get– togethers as I had thought about doing; because they are NOT friendly. Third, when I walked in they were having one of those knitting get-togethers; and while they all paused long enough to stare at me like I had six heads no one said a word to me. Not hello, not can I help you, nothing. Fourth, despite having called two days earlier to make sure they had the yarn I wanted, I was not able to find it. Not sure I could have pried whoever owns the place away from the knitting circle long enough to pay for it anyway. Fifth, won’t be back.

New location, plenty of variety to choose from. Staff is helpful, but not pushy. They have studio time where you can get help with your projects. Other knitters are friendly and supportive.
