Dr. Catherine Tan completed her O.D. degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and received her B.S. degree from U.C. San Diego. In the course of her career, Dr. Tan has acquired a great deal of experience fulfilling the diverse needs of many patient populations across the United States. She has worked with underserved populations in Bethel, Alaska, provided LASIK co-​management and performed specialty contact lens fittings at Dr. Jay Schlanger’s office in Los Angeles., and worked extensively on geriatric eye pathologies at the Connecticut VA.

Dr. Tan has been caring for patients since 2004. She continues to stay current on all aspects of modern optometry, attending major conferences nationwide and investing many hours into her own continuing education. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and California Optometric Association. In her leisure time, Dr. Tan enjoys spending time with her family. She also enjoys Taekwondo, music, and photography.

Dr. Tan is as good as it gets! She is very personable, smart, and possibly the best eye doctor I’ve ever seen. She gave me lots of sample contacts (colors, daily lenses, and monthly lenses) to try. My visit wasn’t rushed — she made sure I had perfectly clear vision before leaving her office! Thanks Dr. Tan! I would recommend her practice to anyone looking for an eye doctor in North County. OH — and some people might laugh at this — but I HATE that test they do in the beginning to check for eye pressure — you know the one — you’re waiting waiting waiting PUFF that air PUFF shoots straight into your eye! YUCK! I hate that thing. Well, if you visit Dr. Tan you are IN LUCK. She has another method for testing the same thing and it requires no air puff torture.

Dr. Tan and her staff are very kind and knowledgeable. There is a relaxed, yet professional atmosphere present each time we visit. Dr. Tan is honest and has a «no pressure» demeanor that makes the patient feel comfortable with her recommendations. My daughter tried contacts for the first time and was given as much time as needed with Dr. Tan’s staff in order to feel confident in using them by herself. We will continue to see Dr. Tan for all our eye needs!

I was very pleased with my eye exam with Dr. Tan. She was thorough, took her time, was great at explaining everything. She was warm and friendly too. ViVi at the front desk was very helpful and professional and the intern was very helpful too. I had researched on Unilocal and had done some background on Dr. Tan and was in every way satisfied with my visit. They explained exactly what my VSP insurance would and would not cover and they also accepted care credit which I needed to use for my glasses. I look forward to going to Blue Mountain Optometry for my vision needs and would recommend them to friends and family.

Dr. Tan and her staff are very friendly. The place is clean and there is a good selection of glasses to choose from. Dr. Tan is very knowledgeable. I recommend taking the retinal photograph since it helps to diagnose any eye disease that you might not aware of. She explained my eye problem, but I didn’t quite understand the terminology. She was so nice that she explained it to me again until I understood the problem.

This was my first time visiting Blue Mountain Optometry and I initially went there because it was recommended by my insurance company. I would gladly return here for another visit since I had a very pleasant experience. Dr. Tan made it a point to greet me when I walked in her office (she introduced herself as Catherine) and her front desk staff was very welcoming and laid back. Throughout the visit, I never felt pressured to buy anything — Dr. Tan told me what my insurance covered and let me choose for myself the frames I liked (I even got a $ 25 rebate!). During my appointment, she made sure to explain to me everything that she was doing and seemed genuinely interested in getting to know me on a personal level. I felt very comfortable here and would recommend Dr. Tan’s office to those who appreciate simple, easygoing office environments that also value quality.

Dr. Tan and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Every step of my eye exam was easy, from making the appointment to payment. They answered all my questions with a smile and with helpful information. Dr. Tan explained the changes to my prescription and gave me options for what to do next; now I can see much more clearly and I’m so grateful (no more squinting at my screen!). I recommend her services as she’s a very intelligent, conscientious doctor and her staff is warm, friendly and professional.

I love Dr. Tan and the staff at Blue Mountain Optometry. After moving to the area from New England, I struggled to find the «perfect» health care providing team. I lucked out finding Dr. Tan. A year or two later, I changed insurance and was no longer covered with Dr. Tan so I went to another local, larger Optometrist and immediately regretted my decision when I walked in the door.
I am now back at Dr. Tan’s office for good. I appreciate her knowledge, understand, and comprehensive care. She doesn’t push anything on you. They have been really helpful and friendly in my eye care journey and therefore, I have referred many people to their office — they are all very pleased as well. Thank you guys!

I found Dr. Tan off Unilocal.Dr. Tan’s assistant, Danielle, was very helpful, nice and friendly. Dr. Tan took her time with me and really helped me understand what is going on with my eyesight. They didn’t try to up-​sell me with expensive frames and were very accommodating. I highly recommend Dr. Tan!

Dr. Catherine Tan and her staff are professional, competent and friendly. She takes her time dialing in the perfect prescription, evidence that she cares about her patients. She was able to lower my prescription, but actually improve my vision. She also has start of the art technology and was able to find a potential problem using digital retinal photography. Love the text reminders they send for appointments.
Blue Mountain Optometry carries a nice selection of frames and sunglasses that even appealed to my fashion forward teenagers. Staff Danielle and Alyssa must help with the purchasing. Our family has been very satisfied with the care and service we’ve received and will be seeing Dr. Tan on an annual basis. If you’re looking for a new optometrist, I can’t recommend her enough.

Dr. Tan and her staff are amazing. They got me in on very short notice and Dr. Tan took her time making sure my prescription was perfect. She even had my prescription contact lenses in stock so I could walk out with 20⁄20 vision!
Her staff took their time to explain exactly what my insurance benefits would cover, and discussed my options for coverage and payment. I didn’t feel at all pressured to buy anything, but when I am ready for a new pair of glasses, this is where I’ll buy them.
I’ve never had such a thorough eye exam and would highly recommend Blue Mountain Optometry :)

I was impressed with my recent visit to Dr. Tan’s office for a contact lens and eyeglass prescription. I have never had an appointment as thorough and her digital and wireless technology is state of the art. She spent much time ensuring my prescription was accurate and my eyes are healthy. The office is clean and organized and her assistant was also very friendly. They did not show any hesitation in releasing my prescription and I didn’t feel pressure to buy anything. I was very happy with the experience.

I went here to get my eyes checked because I’ve been bestowed with the gift of nearsightedness. Dr. Tan is a friendly asiany woman who appears to know her stuff, has a friendly staff, and a well kept, organized office. She got me in and out real quick and had good prices on all the hipster glasses.
Also, they’re located near a lights store, a liquor store, and Chick-​fil-​A, so I was able to get lights, liquor, and food with all the money I saved. It was a good Saturday. Oh yeah, she was open on Saturday, which is a plus. :)

Dr. Amy Tan and her staff are amazing! Having only had a Costco eye exam I had no idea of the difference in level of skill and care. Do yourself a favor and visit this fine eye glass establishment!

Dr. Tran is extremely nice and sweet. She made me very comfortable and relaxed while explaining everything very carefully and detailed. The exam was a little more than I thought; however, her assistant is a big jerk… He is rude, talks when he should listen, and gives his opinion as if it were asked of him…
