TERRIBLE!!! STAY AWAY AND BE WARE!!! The staff here is poorly trained, negligent and does not care about the well being of their patients! My husband came here for the first time today and the hygienist tried to x-​ray him without putting on the lead vest first! That would expose him to radiation known to cause cancer. When he insisted she get the vest she begrudgingly did so. She then went ahead with the x-​rays and did them in such a way that he left with a slipping headache. He is not prone to headaches and had never gotten one after a lifetime of x-​rays. THIS IS A DANGEROUS OFFICE WITH INCOMPETENT STAFF WHO ENDANGER THRIR PATIENTS!!! DO NOT PATRONIZE THEM!!!

I scheduled an emergency visit for an impacted wisdom tooth. They were able to give me a mid-​morning appointment as a new patient. The office is beautiful and the staff is incredibly helpful. I found everyone at the office, including Dr. Razavi to be empathetic and understanding of the pain I was suffering. I highly recommend this dentist.

I have been looking for a good general dentist office since having a bad experience at my last dentist. I am soooo glad that my friend recommended Advanta Dental in Emeryville. All of the staff are helpful and educated. They also go out of their way to help explain insurance and financing of the work that they do. They also accept CareCredit which is a huge plus!

Dr. Razavi is still my favorite dentist. I continue to come here although I live in LA because I trust Dr. Razavi’s expert opinion. I had a beautiful smile at my wedding this past July 2015 and I owe it all to Advanta Dental!

I came to Advanta from another dentist office for a second opinion and I have to say I prefer Advanta.
I met with Dr. Roberts and really liked the way she handled my case and explained what procedures I needed done and why. Dr. Roberts just gave me the facts and I felt I could trust her right off the bat.
Right after my consultation, they were able to fill my cavities and I could make my next appointment for a much needed deep cleaning.
So far, I have a great feeling about Advanta Dental!

Beware these guys are scammers
I went in for a cleaning. She comes in and tells me that I need a deep cleaning, which is way more expensive. She then tells me that I «need“Invisalign and wastes my time by showing me a video about it. To get help from her staff she yells out their names.
She is a sales person. I do sales too do I could tell. She says «it’ll make your parents so happy if you do this. Let’s get you started». I’m in my late twenties and have been taking care of myself financially since I left the house at 18. It was a weird thing to say.
She then asks if I ever grind my teeth. I said yes at times I have bad anxiety and will clench at night. She says «why do you have anxiety you are so pretty?!» So if I was ugly then it would make sense to have anxiety? Good looks solve everything? She was trying to butter me up. Yuck
All her comments made me very uncomfortable.
Anyways. So when I left I needed a deep clean, Invisalign, a special made mouth guard, and cavities filled
So I’m not rich and I went to another dentist for their opinion. I didn’t say anything about this visit. They gave me s cleaning and took care of my cavities. I then asked about the mouth guard because she did say it was «extremely severe». This dentist said it isn’t necessary and that my teeth look fine.
So there you go. They are after your money. Stay away.

Best Dentist Ever !!! She did a bunch of work on me today and I dont feel a thing …# crowns, deep cleaning etc

Dr. Razavi and her staff are absolutely amazing. A very happy 4 year client. You will always be taken care of and treated like family :) great for cleanings, quick fixes, more serious work, and a completely honest approach to dental health.

I have going to this dentist office for a while and had a lot of disappointment moments: twice with one of the assistants (a tall, strong voiced lady that wears prescription glasses) pinched with the instruments and found her to be a little too aggressive.
I also think that most of the Dentists in this office push a lot to replace filling with crowns because the make better money by doing so.
I was very patient with all that and always gave them the benefit of the doubt, but the last thing they did was not very professional: after I spoke with the head Dentist: Sepideh Ravavi about loosing an old bonding in the front of one of my teeth as a consequence of the last cleaning they performed, she denied any responsibility, so I filed a complaint with my Insurance; at the end there was no resolution given by the mediation, so instead of trying to work something out with me, they unilaterally decided to drop me out of their practice! Just because I spoke my mind and tried to protect my rights and my wallet! So, I don’t recommend them at all, I don’t trust them and I wish someone have told me about them!

Very professional and extremely helpful. As a recent transplant to California I had just recently started a new job and I was unfamiliar with my new dental insurance. They were extremely helpful in explaining my options! I unfortunately needed a referral to an endodontist for further work and they scheduled the appointment and made all the arrangements with my insurance company as well! Everyone from the dentist herself to the receptionist were incredibly personable and eager to help (even with the little things like working around my unique work schedule!).
I would definitely recommend this to anyone! I was nervous about finding a new dentist in the Bay Area, but I think I found one on my first try! The building itself is nicely decorated and has a professional feel to it. Even though I am positively TERRIFIED of the dentist, I felt calm and at ease and I have almost no anxiety about my future appointments!

No significant complaints. Excellent, professional service. The dentists are very competent and enjoyable company. I recommend this office to anyone.

I just had my teeth cleaned. Dr. Naser has a warm friendly manner, and gave me calm, clear advice about dental health while pregnant. I was told about work I needed but I don’t feel it was pushed on me. The office staff was polite and kind, and the dental assistant personable and funny. I like the interior design of the building, and the text alerts for appointments.
I also had work done last year and is was all completed more than satisfactorily.
It is a seven minute drive for me, so I will not complain about the bridge :)
Dr. Naser used some sort of sonic plaque destroyer, and I am now very happy with how my teeth feel, prompting this review.

My wife had scheduled me for a regular cleaning, which was to be covered under insurance.
When I came in to the office, my teeth were «polished a little» so they could take pictures of them. Then I was told about invisiline, and «deep tooth cleanings» which are very expensive, they want to put you under anesthetic!
I didn’t have the money for either, and said i would have to talk it over with the wife. They left me sitting in the chair for a long while, as if they were expecting me to call her right away, in the middle of the work day.
After long enough, they came in smiling and thanked me for coming.
I didn’t even get my teeth cleaned, which was why I came in. I felt that because I didn’t want to spend money, I was shown the door.
The staff was so nice, I didn’t realise that they charged my insurance company for a teeth cleaning, without providing said services, until I was down the road a few blocks!

If I had an option to give them 0 stars I would. I’ve been going to this practice for over five years now and last week was the final straw.
So dear Unilocalers, here are my tales of dealing with this dental practice. I will apologize in advance because this will be a little long.
Dr. Razavi was the first dentist I was to encounter. Now let me state, unfortunately I did not take care of my teeth growing up, not because I was lazy or anything, but because I never ever had anyone show me how to take care of them, so I thought it was normal not to.
But I digress, Dr. Razavi was the first dentist I saw there and when she told me I need all this work done it was to be expected but I noticed (and didn’t like) the fact that she also pushed very hard for me to get starting on a lot of cosmetic work, that while I would love to get on with in the future, has nothing to do with the real dental work I need done.
Moving on, eventually I need a root canal that according to Dr. Razavi was too complicated for herself and her immediate recommendation was for me to see a specialist but immediately backpedaled when she realized that would result in a loss of income to her practice and then recommended I see Dr. Michael’s (who is no longer with the practice) because he was better skilled than she with complicated root canals and so on. I see Dr. Michael’s and he goes on to tell me in the presence of Dr. Razavi that I should see a specialist because the root was very short and curved and possibly too complicated for a regular dentist but that if I wanted to have him do it anyways he felt comfortable allowing me to be a guinea pig (obviously he did not us this exact wording) and than leaves me with Dr. Razavi. She then goes on to tell me that having a specialist work on my tooth would cost almost twice as much and blah blah fucking blah (I’ll get to my anger here in a minute). So anyways, after she talks me out of seeing a specialist because it will cost sooooo much (according to her) I schedule to have Dr. Michael’s do the root canal and all goes well or so it seems.
Again, moving on, I make Dr. Michael’s my normal dentist being that he is suppose to be the better skilled dentist. However, Dr Michael’s up and leaves and I get shuffled to whoever can see me. I think to myself, well not a big deal they have all had the same training right. So, the next time I end up going in I see Dr. Celstino. Dr. Celstino is very professional and never once tried to up sale me on cosmetic work. However, the only thing Dr. Celstino has ever done for my teeth is a filling.
And now for the hate. Remember that root canal Dr. Michael’s did, well he fucked up. Fast forward a few years after the fact and I get a monster tooth ache, it started on a Friday and I figured it was fluke and would go away. Boy was I wrong, it ended up staying and by the time I got into Advanta it had been aching for a week. I get in and the DA takes an X-​ray and Dr. Celstino walks back and tells me my worst fears have materialized, I have an infection under the root canal that Dr. Michal’s did and I have to now see a specialist to have it fixed. The whole interaction lasted about 60 seconds. I get up and go to the front desk where Ana (who is lovely by the way) was nice enough to call and schedule me an emergency meeting with a specialist for the next morning, a Saturday I might add.
I have to admit at that point I was in tears because I was so angry, because not only was I in a massive amount of pain, but because that pain was caused by this practices shoddy dentistry and the fact that it was only allowed to happen in the first place because Dr. Razavi (in my most humble opinion) could not give two shits about the patient’s well being. (Again, in my most humble opinion) She only cares about one thing, the bottom line and trying to get as much out of each patient as they can.
And now I am currently having the root canal retreated by a specialist and unfortunately am supposed to have Advanta take care of the crown part; which I’m sure I’ll be charged for. However, I think I am going to look elsewhere. That way I will never ever have to set foot in their office again. It does not matter that they’re still conveniently located right down the street from my husband’s office, they’re a terrible terrible dental practice.
TL; DR: Never ever go to this place!!!

Have been there twice now. Agree with previous posts about doctors and the days they work. That combined with their overall busy schedule makes it hard to get consistency. First time I went was just for a cleaning and overall… meh. I got better cleanings at my old dentist (and don’t think «he should go back» — old dentist is in Connecticut!) They did get me a new mouth guard for my TMJ which is working very well.
Had to get a cavity redone because I grind my teeth and so far so good with that and it has been a couple of months.
Overall, a good dentist with up to date technology and they take my insurance.

I am avoiding using loyalty to rate or review Advanta Dental.
If I could, would give 3.75 stars. I’m rounding up because they’ve fixed/​responded to any issues I’ve brought up.
Just to get it out there, I come from a long line of bad teeth. Not the crooked kind, but the kind that is just destine to get cavities and break. Yes, I brush my teeth. A lot. I floss. Sodas, daily coffee, tons of candy, all no’s. I’m in great health, but with a vulnerable grill.
So, I’ve been to Advanta over two dozen times over the past 3 years.
The good:
They have the most advanced equipment a dentist office can have including software that keep track of all the xrays and photos of your teeth. That one is fun to look at. They also have software to do appnt confirmation via email or texts.
Anna, the front desk woman, is fantastic. She has no problems double checking insurance claims, is friendly and knowledgeable and makes you feel welcome.
They always have enough assistance staff when you’re getting work done so that even when getting cleaning, you have enough people to help or check in on you. The are all really sweet as well.
The staff are all professional at all times.
The office is right by my office. =)
The not-​so-​good:
They are across the bay from my house.
The dentists rotate days. Some are in Mon/​Tue, some are in Fri only, etc, so that if you want to see the same dentist multiple times, you must come on the same days.
They cost more than the competition and do offer the more pricey (latest trends) in solutions. You have to be persistent in turning down extra services.
I am an avid asker of questions. I am more curious than a 3 year old. I want more information from them about why, where, and how things are done. I ask and often feel like I’m getting an answer for a 3 year old. I just want to be a educated consumer of their services. Maybe this is a common issue with Doctors/​Dentists, but if I’m going to pay for all of this work, I want to know why.
The bad then good:
I had a bad cap put on. Sensitive for a year, painful to use for a year. I went in multiple times plus called multiple times. Finally I went in and said I wanted it fixed. They replaced it. Now its all good. Bad cap = negative. Fixed cap = positive. But aren’t caps pretty damn common? Now I have some new caps and 3 weeks later, they’re still very sensitive to use. Please don’t make me go back in for these!
Overall I like this place. And it’s hard to rate dentists because its a service so seldom used and never for a pleasurable reason. But I think I’m going to try somewhere else for the next cleaning. See what exists out there in the world outside of Advanta. Maybe I’ll go back. I like them, but then maybe I’ll see that I don’t need all the tech for good service.

I haven’t been to a dentist in a long, long time, but I can assure you that this visit was certainly one of the best.
I made an appointment with Advanta to have a teeth cleaning and was quickly scheduled by their super friendly receptionist. They even called me a few days before to remind me of the appointment which was nice. The morning of my scheduled cleaning they even found a way to have me come in earlier than requested, which was great seeing as how I didn’t want to be sitting around waiting for a dental appointment. Get it done early, I say, and get on with the day.
Their office is conveniently located with reserved parking right by their front door, and their office is immaculately cleaned with curving architecture and a really fun interior design. The room I had was small, but very well lit with a giant window that looked out at the trees and a flat screen television that I could watch while I waited. Everything was clean, well organized, and seemed especially prepared for my visit.
The dental assistant (a really sweet lady who had been working there for years) took my X-​Rays and dental photographs quickly and accurately. When I asked how my x-​rays looked, she laughed and said, «Well, you have a lot of them!» I felt comfortable, relaxed, and in good care.
I saw Dr. Naser, who came into the room with a smile and greeted me with my first name and a handshake. He was very gentle, told me my teeth were in very good condition, and recommended a deep cleaning at another time. For this appointment he cleaned my teeth with his assistant’s help. I was in the chair for only 15 minutes, but when Dr. Naser was finished I felt like he had given my teeth the attention they deserved. He was meticulous, careful not to cause any pain, and very thorough.
I’ll definitely be making Advanta my dental office in the future and would Dr. Naser to anybody.

I am amazed at the reviews below. First off, people are offended that a dentist recommends things like teeth whiting, braces, and extra cleanings — they’re DENTISTS — It’s their JOB to recommend treatment for your teeth to help them look and feel better. How is that «just after money» by doing their job??? Why would you want a dentist to tell you your crooked, yellow, gum-​bleeding, cavity ridden, root-​canal needing teeth are perfect when they’re not? Thank GOD for her honesty or that may still be me…
My favorite is the comment around how it should be their job to know what antibiotics you are allergic to. And on a first visit… umm no. If it were her job to find this out, I imagine that would require many different trial and errors of antibiotic use that you may or may not be allergic too. That sounds dangerous. That is absolutely your job (and MAYBE your primary care’s job) to figure that out so she doesn’t prescribe something that’s going to hurt you… I think it’s really important that I know exactly what I’m allergic too and exactly what I CAN take in an emergency. I would tattoo it on my forward if I could… but I settle for just keeping that info in my purse. Anyway…
I LOVE Dr. Razavi. I HATE the dentist, but if I have to go to one, I would choose no other. I love how straightforward she is, easy to talk to, not fake nice, just real. She’s super confident, which I prefer in a doctor. We are not the same, she went to dental school, she’s the doctor, she can be as confident (or as some of you say arrogant) as she wants, as long as she’s a kick-​ass dentist and knows what she’s doing. I don’t go to the dentist for good conversation, I go there for fast, efficient and top notch dental work. Dr. Razavi has also always been very sensitive to the fact that I crawl up the walls a little as soon as that drill or shot come out. She has helped calm me down and even prescribed a valium for me to take before coming in for major work.
The office is pretty awesome too. Clean and comfortable. I love the receptionists… Everyone at this place gets an A in my book.

I thought this would be a good idea since my job is walking distance from their practice. Boy was I wrong…
Had one visit, they did x-​rays but did not clean my teeth. Dentist was recommending services that I really do not need. Thankfully I was able to see my regular dentist who cleaned my teeth and said that everything was fine.
Bottom line they only care about making $$$ and pushing unnecessary services.
I’ll pass and stick to my regular dentist.

I’ve been going to Dr, Razavi for many years now. She is personable and her staff is always professional and accomodating. She is very thorough and my teeth thank me for it. She takes the time to explain in detail any procedures that may need to be done. I’m happy to say since she gave my teeth a makeover, I’ve only needed to go in for cleanings!
I used to hate going to the dentist, now I only slightly dislike it :)
