Randy’s Ice Cream

We were recommended this place by our waitress as being the best gelato in town and I don’t doubt. Definitely delicious flavors it’s just unfortunate that you have to wait 30 minutes or more to get some so I gave it a 4 instead of 5. However, we went back again the next night and waited another 30 minutes for more gelato if that tells you anything.

I was stuffing my face at JoJu across the street when I noticed this $ 1 ice cream stand beckoning to me. Since the only logical thing to do after eating a huge meal is to continue eating, I made the journey.
I tried to use the check in deal and the young girl working had no idea what it was. I love it when places don’t know their own deals. Either way I still got a scoop of green tea and pistachio for $ 1. The pistachio was good with real pieces of nuts. The green tea was blander but still good.
It’s decent ice cream and a cheap treat. Nothing to complain about here. I mean when was the last time you actually saw ice cream for $ 1 in NYC? I thought I was hallucinating when I spotted it.

It’s pretty hard to find cheap ice cream in the city that’s both good and «exotic»
I ordered the green tea and red bean, flavors special to Asian taste buds!

You can go wrong with a scoop of Ice Cream for $ 1.00. Not a fan of the Green Tea ice cream.

$ 1 for 2 little scoops of green tea ice cream?! They were yummy! I even came back again 30 minutes later for a second round! If you compare it to a store tub, of course it’s not that great of a deal, but if you consider the fact that it’s an ice cream stand and you want a little along the go, good deal. The green tea has a slight bitterness to it, which is loved more by some than others. I thought it was delicious. The mango flavor was alright.

It’s not even a real store. It’s parked right in front of a Thai restaurant. It’s ice cream for $ 1. That’s basically it. No frills, and the ice cream is pretty good on a hot summer day, with an Italian ice-​sized serving with different flavors. Coconut and pistachio were good, and there’s no complaints here fortunately.

I like the coconut. The pistachio has chunks of almond in it.
I took a gelato making class with my colombian friend and while it was hard to hear the instructor over her hot colombian body, I do remember him saying that 99% of gelaterias use almond products not pistachio butter since it’s extremely expensive. So i doubt the pistachio has pistachio in it.
But it still tastes really good.

Great place to get a small after dinner ice cream for just $ 1! Their green tea flavor is the best I’ve had, not too bitter. Vanilla is delicious too!

Wow, I actually feel slightly harassed by Brian C. concerning my 3 star review of Randy’s Ice Cream. lol.
When I click on 3 stars, Unilocal says «A-​OK». 4 stars is «I’m a fan» and 5 is «As good as it gets!»
I felt the ice cream at Randy’s is good! Not great, fantastic, wonderful, super, or any other adjective better than «good» one might prescribe to food that you put in your mouth.
So I’m sticking to my 3 star review. It being cheap doesn’t suddenly make it amazing.
If you want to spend $ 1 on 2 scoops of ok ice cream then it’s a great deal. That makes it 3 stars and «A-​OK!» in my book.
To directly address the «exotic» flavors comment: green tea and red bean aren’t exactly rare in the middle of Queens, NY.

This is an answer to Eric M. who is wondering about why Randy’s has «all the five star reviews.»
Try to see past your thought of Randy’s Ice Cream as being «just ice cream.» Randy’s is a neighborhood gem, serving up affordable treats to locals and visitors alike (and with more exotic flavors such as green tea and red bean — varieties which the push-​carts/​trucks don’t offer). So, if the price is right, the service friendly, and the product good, then why not five stars?
Randy’s is only open during the summer, and for just a buck, you get a real bargain served up in the form of two large scoops of ice cream in a cup. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to meet Randy, but I believe Randy’s brother was serving ice cream when I ordered. The selection isn’t as large as Baskin Robins, but you get a fantastic variety nonetheless. I gravitated toward the green tea ice cream (as I usually do) and it was, simply put, great ice cream.
I’ve yet to return since my first visit, but that’s only because I’m hardly on foot when passing though Broadway. Red bean is next on my list to try, but I feel it’s safe to assume it’ll be great as well!

It’s a little ice cream stand in front of the Thai restaurant Boon Chu on Broadway. I always thought it was part of the restaurant but I asked and he said it wasn’t and he’s actually Filipino but gets confused for Thai all the time. I might have passed this place a million times and never paid any attention to it, so sad I haven’t found it earlier =(It’s two scoops of ice cream in a cup for a dollar. YES, A DOLLAR! The ice cream is actually really good to boot. But that spoon is terrible, I think if you sneeze too hard it might break in two.
The food:
Coconut– I really liked this a lot. It has very strong coconut flavor and there are a ton of coconut shavings.
Pistachio– I really liked this as well. Kinda reminds me of spumoni from L&B spumoni. The pistachio taste is nice and there are a lot of pistachio pieces.

Delicious ice cream for an awesome price! $ 1 for two giant scoops. I love the green tea flavor!
Tried the red bean flavor also but it tasted more like strawberry with bits of red bean thrown in…

This place can easily be missed! It’s a small stand in front of a store.

Everything is good.

$ 1 for ice cream? Its unheard of! I came to randy’s expecting 1scoop of ice cream for $ 1. But it was actually two scoops. win! The girl was nice enough to let me and my friends get two different flavors. My favorite is the mango. The mango was more like a sorbet texture than ice cream. You cant go wrong with $ 1 ice cream on a hot day.

Creamy ice cream in Elmhurst:
Strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, green tea, red bean and pistachio. For the win!

In Elmhurst, in front of a Thai restaurant called Boon Chu Thai is this ice cream stand manned by a young Asian guy. They have a fantastic deal — 1 scoop of ice cream for $ 1.
The flavors he offers are vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, mocha, pistachio, mango, green tea, and red bean. I got the green tea ice cream and it was fantastic. It is hard to find green tea ice cream for so cheap.
The serving is also generous and is actually a little more than a scoop. It comes in the styrofoam cup that the street vendors serve Italian ice in. Stop by while he is still there — he will probably be gone as it gets colder.
He also has a rewards card. Every time you buy a scoop, he will stamp the card — get 10 stamps and get a free scoop.
