Initially, I was a bit nervous going in because I don’t speak the language, but for the great price, I didn’t turn it down. For $ 18 dollars, around the afternoon at the twelve o’clock hour, I received a long hair cut and wash. The great thing is they have a cardboard outside displaying their prices openly, something I don’t see much in the hair salons at Elmhurst. There didn’t seem to be much business and I never saw more than three customers including me at the time I was there. At least I got attention without waiting. When I went in, I guess they speak Mandarin, I did not really understand too much, but they showed me a chair to sit in while they poured a unrecognizable plain bottle of shampoo and I guess the other bottle is a water bottle. While I sat in a regular hair salon chair, the hair washer person massaged my hair. This was the first time I ever sat up to get my hair washed. The good thing was that she took her time and I had a few massages along the scalp and neck. I did get shampoo on the outside of my ears but I didn’t mind. When she was finished, I sat in the only hair washing chair as she washed my hair. I wasn’t too sure if she even added conditioner because I never saw her apply it, but I guess she did because my hair wasn’t knotty. At this time, they turned on the music, so I felt much better. Then I sat in the chair and tried to explain how I wanted a layered cut to the hair dresser. She didn’t seem to understand English and we couldn’t communicate much. I let her do everything she wanted to do because I was that kind of person when it comes to hair cutting. During the cut, she whipped hair into my eyes on several occasions. As far as professionalism, I didn’t feel like her techniques were better than the Corina Beauty Salon hair dresser. She did use something no other hair dresser did for me, which was iron out my hair. In the end, she did not spray any hair spray. My haircut turned out okay. It wasn’t the best I ever had since the sides weren’t exactly the same, but for this price, I didn’t complain much since I just wanted a simple haircut. Due to miscommunication, I would have liked my hair to be shorter, but left it alone in the end since my husband loved it. It seems like when they answered the phone, they said they were open from 8:00 — 8:00pm. I didn’t confirm this. They also offer nail salon and skin care service, but I did not try. Funny thing was today was windy and as soon as I left the place, my hair blew all over the place and was messed up. I get what I pay for. Pros: cheap Cons: language barrier
