I have long hair and Michell gave me a digital perm. I have to say the staffs are so caring and prefessional. They serve you tea or coffee while you waiting. Most importantly I’m happy with the result… nature smooth curves. I will come back again.

My boyfriend doesn’t have Unilocal so I am leaving a review in place of him. They took his appointment along with two of his friends for 1 pm. His two friends got seated right away but he was told to wait. Meanwhile his two friends were getting shampooed and he was still waiting to be seated for his appointment. He was told to wait, and ended up waiting for 40 minutes. As he was waiting, he heard Michelle (owner) talking to a friend who has asked if she could drop in to get a cut. When someone finally noticed that he had been not been serviced, he was told to wait another 15 minutes. By this time his friends were all finished with their cuts and was waiting with him. Michelle’s friend had arrived and was immediately greeted by all employees and was seated right away. Mind you, Michelle had still not noticed that there was a customer who hasn’t been serviced for almost an hour. My boyfriend talked to the employees again to be further told to wait, which was when he decided to leave.
He had been a customer for this barbershop for over a year, and is recognized by the workers for being regulars. It is understandable if they were overwhelmed with customers, however, he was the only one waiting to have his hair cut. Also, Michelle had around 15 – 20 minutes prior to her friend coming in, which meant that she could’ve «squeezed» him in (notice that he HAD an appointment). They just lost a customer who had been a regular.

I’ve been to Color Fx for Michelle twice so far, once for a haircut, and another for a digital perm with treatment. Both times, I’ve gotten the same impression.
The service is great, everyone there is really nice and detail oriented when working on hair. Michelle took the time to listen to exactly what I wanted before getting to work to make sure we were on the same page. However the bad part is that she seems to assume and do additional things that I didn’t want. For the haircut, I wanted my hair angled and layered, but she decided to use thinners all over in addition which I didn’t like. For the digital perm, we looked over pictures and picked the style we were doing. I wanted soft, loose waves. But after 4 hours I was shocked to see that my hair was super curly! When I told her I didn’t like it and didn’t want it so curly, she said that she assumed that if she gave me what she wanted then I wouldn’t like it because previous clients always wanted it curlier. It’s understandable, but a perm is permanent and I absolutely hated how curly it was and walked away from the salon feeling very disappointed.
But I’ve learned that if I spend extra time straightening my hair then I can achieve the waves I wanted. My hair is still very frizzy because of the curls, but it’s manageable with products. Michelle was nice enough to give me a free leave-​in product. Still, I’m thankful that she didn’t burn my hair and the pricing was reasonable.

Great hair cut and color. Listened well to what I wanted and delivered. Couldn’t believe the teamwork and talent. At one point two people were blow drying my hair to make sure I didn’t have an extended stay. Also this is the first time I left a hair salon and didn’t have a brown halo around my hairline from the color application. They really delivered on customer service and skill. Will be back every 6 – 8 weeks happily, prices were affordable.

My hair is complicated so whenever I go to any hair salon, I pay way too much with less than satisfactory results. Many times, I’ll get highlights done for over a hundred dollars, be told ‘oh, you will see them better in the light. It’s just so dark in here” and nope, can barely see the color in the sun.
After a lot of research, I found a place that seems to specialize in Asian hair. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, offering green tea while I wait for the color to settle. Michelle was fantastic, did everything to make sure I was happy with her work. I got a haircut, color, and highlights. I was there for several hours, given massages after shampoo. This was only my first time, but I was treated like a repeat customer. After this treatment, I will be.

Their customer service is terrible. The hairdresser ignored my requests and cut my hair the way she wanted. I ended up paying so much for what I didn’t even want! I would highly recommend going to Hair Talk by Andy instead.

I have been coming here since it first opened a few years ago and it’s great to have seen it grow into what it is now. The owner Michelle has always been super accommodating, friendly, and is extremely knowledgeable about modern hairstyles that will best suit your face.
I mostly get my haircuts from Jamie, whom I highly recommend. I’ve been to several salons on route 40 and this is consistently the best one.

I just moving from LA area to here. As an asian, in LA, I had a hair stylist from Korean. So I tried to find a similar place with highest review. I did the haircut morning today with Jamie without an appointment. There are not many custom there, so I do not need to wait. (Maybe because it’s Friday and I come just after they open.) I am satisfied with her not talking a lot or trying to sale other services to me. The finishing of the the haircut looks great. The grape smell of my hair made me wanting to eat the candies. I think I will come again.
(Some unsatisfied: when washing my hair, there are still some soap bubble left outside my right ear. The people washing my hair is standing on the left side and didn’t see.
An suggestion: When washing, you could hold another towel near the eyes as most other Korean hair salon does.)

Been going to Color FX for 3 months and this salon is the real deal. Creative hair stylists that know how to accomplish precision & defining hair cuts. Shop has state of the art equipment and stocks professional hair care products. Cordial receptionist who interacts very well with customers. Michelle and her staff run a very professional salon.

I love everything about this place! The staff is super friendly, the place is clean, and there is always positive atmosphere when I come here.
I’ve gotten my hair cut by Michelle several times and I’ve always walked out really pleased with my hair. She’s very sweet and detail oriented. She takes time to really perfect your hair!
I highly recommend this place if you’re in the area :)

1.) The floors are covered in hair. I nearly slipped twice and I was wearing sandals so I could feel the hair in my toes. Icky. (They had just opened for the day when i got there).
2.) I was in a time crunch so i got there right on the dot for my appt but i had to wait 15 min for my stylist to get there.
3.) The stylist had me pick out the exact shade of color i wanted. I thought this place was supposed to be a color salon ?? If i knew the exact shade i would just go buy it and do it at home. And then she asked me if i thought the color was done. Idk, aren’t you the professional?
4.)the stylist took 2 other appts during my appt making my appt last even longer while i sat waiting bored out of my mind and forced to look at all of the hair on the ground.
5.) The hair washer wore latex gloves so she pulled my hair every time she touched it. I had a raging headache and this made it worse. Then when she combed my hair she yanked and pulled still wearing those dang latex gloves. Haven’t they ever heard of a wet brush or detangler spray?
It had been nearly 3 hours and i only had highlights done. I couldn’t wait any longer so i stood up and left (don’t worry because my stylist was working on someone else anyway). Over the phone they told me highlights would be $ 65 but now they are saying $ 95 but need to add $ 25 because i have long hair. So why didn’t they tell me that they were going to upcharge me before they started?? Also, i just got my roots done so i don’t see how hair length has anything to do with it. So i paid $ 120 and my hair looks the same as it did when i walked in. I cried the whole way home. The highlights were terrible. I had been so excited to get my hair done since it had been a while. I just gave this place 1 star because the receptionist was really nice and gave me some coffee.

I had a relatively good first experience at Color FX.
My appointment ended up running 30 minutes late, so I was initially a little annoyed. But the lady at the front desk was kind and apologetic, checking in with me frequently and offering me some tea as I waited.
Excluding the wait, the bottom line is that Sonya cut my hair, she was nice, and I was really pleased with the results I got. $ 20 for a men’s hair cut is a reasonable price as well.
It looks like most of the clientele is Korean, and is probably the language many of the staff are most comfortable with, but I had no problem communicating in English with them.

After hearing all the wonderful accolades about Michelle for many years, I withstood bumper to bumper traffic to travel to Ellicott City from Fairfax, VA. It was a trek, but will not hesitate to do it again to receive the friendly and expertise service from Michelle and her competent staff.
My daughter was nervous about chopping off all of her hair to go for a bold, pixie look. Michelle spent time looking through the books with her and was extremely patient in trying to understand the exact look she was going for. Michelle was meticulous and so detail oriented that I felt like we were abusing her kindness with the amount of time she spent with my daughter. My daughter is thrilled with her cut and I am thrilled that we have found a salon that we can trust to give the utmost in customer service.
After watching Michelle work on my daughter, I decided to get a cut myself. She was honest about her appointment overload so was quick to highly recommend Sonya, one of the other hairdressers. I was not sure of the style that I wanted, so, after discussing my hair care regimen (or lack thereof… wash and wear) and desired length, I trusted that she would give me a suitable cut. I have never been more pleased with a hair cut. Without question, Sonya knows what she is doing. She did things with scissors that I have never seen before; I really felt like I was under the care of a hair artist.
It is obvious that Michelle takes customer satisfaction seriously. I highly recommend this salon for all your hair care needs. You will not be disappointed. And if you are, based on her presence on Unilocal,I think she will do everything in her power to make you a happy customer. What more could you ask for from a salon?

Sonya at Color FX was wonderful. She repaired — as in, she fixed — a bad haircut that I received from a large chain salon in Columbia mall that I won’t name. Fixing a bad hair cut is no short order but Sonya worked her magic and made my hair look great.
I can’t say enough good things about Sonya and the rest of the Color FX team. They were professional, courteous and knowledgeable about styling hair. Especially my straight, coarse Korean hair. Even my fiancé decided to get some layers done. Jamie took care of her and did a fantastic job. I have no reservations in recommending Color FX — thank you to Sonya, Jamie and the entire team.

Color Fx is my one any only hair salon that I have been going to since 2 yrs ago. I get my hair cut by the owner who never disappoints. The waiting area is clean, comfortable and has many magazines to read while you wait. They first wash your hair with a head massage that is relaxing. Then they tailor your hair to your preference. The owner is always friendly and explains in detail regarding questions about hair styling, treatment and what not.
I have a friend who is Pakistani that visited after my recommendation with his wife and they were both very satisfied with their hairdo. Sadly, I will be leaving the neighborhood but not sure I will find a hair salon as good as this place.
Would strongly recommend to guys who want a good job done to their hair. Appointments are a must beforehand if you don’t want to wait.

I came in again after a friendly comment from the owner of Color Fx. I was greeted politely when we walked in and it wasn’t that busy. I was offered tea and some cookies which was great. Michelle started on my hair moments after I got in and took the time to look at what I wanted and what I did not like about my previous ombré. She took her time and made sure I was happy with my hair before I left. When it was finished I still did not like the dark highlights that were high up on my hair so she continued to fix it. Michelle even gave her own opinions on my hair so I could get some ideas on what would best fit with my hair and skin tone.
They have awesome customer service and I will definitely be coming back to get my hair toned. Make sure that if you don’t like the way your hair is done to tell them! They WANT you to leave the store happy! Also I highly recommend Michelle for hair coloring, she definitely knows what she’s doing.

I have been going to this hair salon for over a year and have always been extremely satisfied! The salon itself is very bright and clean. The staffs are all friendly and professional. I have always gotten my hair cut by Michelle, the owner, and have never been disappointed. She is also very knowledgable on hair so if you have any questions regarding hair care be sure to ask. Definitely let her know of any problems or concerns you may have so that she can be aware of them and cater to your needs better. I personally have very stiff hair and when its cut short, it just spreads out like a palm tree but I’ve never had that problem with the hair cuts from here.
I’ve recommended multiple friends here and they have all been equally pleased with their cuts. If you haven’t found that go to salon yet then definitely give this one a try!
PS — As a added bonus, the shampoo they use smells amazing.

I have been using Color Fx since they have opened. The staff is very professional and the salon is clean bright, and comforting. I always get my hair cut and other services done at Color Fx. Kudos to the complimentary coffee and tea. Great Salon!

It’s a new salon that feels clean and modern inside. They had magazines and candy in the waiting area for the customers, wooden floors, stations along the walls. I had two major issues with the salon though. First, my friend called for two appointments but they didn’t understand her so she came with me but couldn’t get her hair cut. They were apologetic but it sucked for my friend who had to wait an hour for me to get my hair cut. I also asked for them to give me options for hair coloring, and they never did, so lost business for them.
My hair dresser was really nice and I liked her, but my hair was uneven and the layers weren’t really great, so I ended up cutting some bangs myself when I got home and more of the front layers to be a bit shorter– it looked like someone got scissors and just cut across.
I think it’s hard for them to understand English so make sure you specify and clarify what you want!

I always get my hair cut from Michelle! Everyone is super nice and Michelle always cuts my hair the way I want it!
I love that I don’t have to drive all the way to Virginia like I used to:)
