Specialties

Apple of My Eye Photography specializes in family, pet, child, maternity & newborn photography. We also do engagement sessions as well as small weddings. Sessions are done using natural light on location or in the home with a traveling studio (props, outfits, backdrops) if it is a newborn session.

In addition to photo sessions, the owner, Shira, also teaches personal photography lessons. These lessons help teach clients how to harness the power in their own camera (DSLR preferred) and learn how to use the camera off the «auto» setting. Once you learn light there is no limit to what you can do!

This review is for the photography lessons. Shira is a great teacher and very professional. She helped me learn to use my DSLR camera, pick out places in my home to take photos and practice with my son. I would highly recommend her services!

We decided to take family pictures of our six week old with Shira and we were not disappointed! She was so pleasant and professional. We definitely enjoyed working with her. The baby responded very positively to her. I definitely would recommend her to others looking for someone to work with their family. Her edits to the picture were great because they were minimal but enhanced the natural beauty of the pictures. We were able to make great Christmas cards and provide prints for our family across the country.
As an aside, she had to reschedule and was very apologetic. We understood but she still compensated us with additional pictures because she knew we were slightly stressed about the timing. She also stayed a little longer to make sure we had options. I’m just sharing as an example of the kind of customer service she offers. Not many are good at that part of the business these days.

Shira is a wonderful instructor and very professional. I had a SLR years ago, but this was my first venture into the DSLR and I really was struggling to get past the auto settings. Shira showed me the basics and then added extras that I wouldn’t have thought to ask about. I am totally satisfied with her instruction and attention to my questions and the things that I wanted to get out of the session. I would 100% recommend Apple of My Eye!

My wife and I did a maternity photo shoot with Shira. She did a great job picking the venue for the shoot and was very enjoyable to work with. She made us feel very comfortable and gave us many great options for our photos. She has remained very accessible and responded to us in a timely manner every time we requested something. I thought the $ for her time was very fair and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a photographer.

My husband and I had a great two hour lesson with Shira! Shira is friendly, patient and knowledgeable. She gave us a great overview of basic elements of photography followed by some time to practice using what we learned. I am looking forward to taking better pictures as a result of her instruction! I also came away feeling like she would be great to work with as a photographer for a special event (wedding, etc.).

Shira has taken pictures of our family twice now and both times it was a wonderful experience. She is so easy to work with and has an amazing way with kids. Both of our kids warmed up to her almost instantly and seemed to have a blast during the photo shoot which not only made for a nice experience for us but also allowed for amazing pictures as well. Within a few days we got to see a sneak peek of our shoot and not too long after we had a beautiful gallery of photos to look at. Bottom line is that I highly recommend Shira for any of your photo needs… you won’t be disappointed!

Great lesson, I did a good deal of film photography back in the 20th century, but needed a refresher on the workings of a camera in general and a lesson on the advancements of digital, Shira showed me some functions on my camera I never would have found on my own, I will definitely be scheduling some additional lessons.

My private lesson with Shira was really great. We met at my home and over the next 2 hours I must have remarked several times how amazed I was at what my camera could do. Not only did I get a thorough lesson tailored to my particular camera, Shira wrote out notes for me to keep and use in future practice. Thank you Shira!

On July 19, 2014 I married the love of my life and celebrated the new bundle of joy that will be arriving soon and Shira of Apple of My Eye Photography was there to capture it all. Shira is so sweet and professional. She made me feel very comfortable and made sure that I got all the images I wanted of this very special day.

Yesterday I had a 2 hour private lesson with owner Shira. She was completely open to anything I wanted to do. My priority was to learn how to use my DSLR without relying on the automatic setting. I had a little experience with some things so first Shira gave me an excellent review then pointed out aspects of the camera completely new to me. AND she wrote out notes on what we discussed! I now have a valuable tailor made cheat sheet.
After the camera review we walked around Columbia’s Lake Kittamaqundi to apply the lessons learned. Shira is friendly, patient, calming. She is a born teacher. With her help I have become a more confident photographer.
