I look forward to the 4th of July and the local fireworks show put on by the City of El Segundo. I have been coming to the El Segundo Fireworks Spectacular for years now. I have witnessed the crowd grow from barely anyone showing up to the streets jam packed. I have recently moved from the area and was required to drive in. If you are attending next year(2014) make sure you come early otherwise you will be parking a good mile from the fireworks spectacular. If you live in the surrounding area of Playa Del Rey, Manhattan Beach or Hermosa Beach I suggest you take your beach cruiser to this event. You can simply drive down the bike path and turn up E. Grand Ave. When you get to Main Street simply follow the crowds. The crowd this year was very family orientated. If you are looking for a show to crash after a day of partying this show isn’t it, the El Segundo Police Department will now allow nonsense in this fine City. The El Segundo Fireworks Spectacular is sponsored by Chevron(yes the Oil Company). The Fireworks are set off on the baseball field of Recreation Park. If you choose you can pre-purchase a wrist band and attend the festivities which include live music, pie eating contest, watermelon eating contest, food booths, hula hoop contest, water balloon toss, sack races, grand stand seating for the fireworks display & more. If you choose to pre-purchase wristbands you can purchase them at the Parks & Recreation building of El Segundo on East Pine Ave days before for the show for $ 3.00 or if space is available same day at gate for $ 5.00. If you are a local you should know better than pay to see this event. If you want to pretend like you are a local you can simply bring a blanket, beach chairs, cooler, picnic basket and simply camp out with the rest of us on W. Holly Ave. W. Holly Ave is a hill just adjacent to the baseball field which gives you a great ‘free’ view of the fireworks spectacular show. When the show is over you can be out of there as quick as possible and avoid the crowds and rolling roadblocks that the El Segundo Police Department sets up to avoid traffic jams. If you are coming to El Segundo to see this show please bring money with you. Come early, have dinner and do some shopping support the local El Segundo businesses that depend on you to keep the lights on. You will find everything from takeout food to sit down restaurants to local coffee shops to clothing stores all within walking distance of the fireworks spectacular.
