Smogsters Star Test Only

This is an excellent place to take your Auto. My third time here throughout the years and have always been treated fairly, Richard is very knowledgable and helpful. I’ve used the Coupons and the prices always seem reasonable. There are Smog services closer to where I live, but I like giving this location my business and hope you will consider them for your Smogging needs :-)

Rick is great! Amazing customer service and quality. Yes, they aren’t a «bargain» smog shop but they’re knowledgeable, quick, and get the job done right. Never going anywhere else! Highly recommend!

Last 3 months have used them twice. They are Star Certified with the State. Means they are a notch above most. $ 58 15 minute wait both times. Lots of new smog regulations out for hybrid and diesel. Stick with these guys they are Pro’s

I failed my first smog check here, repaired the problem, but this place refused to pass me because my engine had not yet run one of its diagnostic tests. Looked online, and people said one test not ready is allowed for a «pass.» Seems like this guy didn’t want to let me pass to protect his rating with the state (more forgiven problems equals a lower rating). Took it to R&R Automotive down the block (highly recommended) and I passed. Forget this guy.

In for my smog check today. Out in 20 minutes. Efficient service and I’ll be back.

I had a crazy experience that brought me to this place. I was attempting purchase a car and the seller of the car wanted to meet me at DMV so that we could transfer ownership then & there. When DMV informed the seller that the car needed to pass smog before I could buy it, we drove across the street to Smogster Star Test. There was no one else in line and the test took only 20 minutes. The sad part… the car failed :/​I did think the $ 70 was a bit higher than most I’ve seen but we were in need of a quick smog and this place did the trick. Even better, the guy working here informed the seller of the car I was trying to buy that it was his responsibility to pay for the smog, since he was trying to get me to pay. Needless to say, I didn’t buy the car after all! I liked how fast and helpful this guy was though. I will definitely consider coming back in the future (unless I find a groupon for a cheaper smog elsewhere!)

The technician told me that they could take me up to 5:30 PM. I rushed over after work, and by their office clock, it was 5:32 PM. The shop is completely empty, no cars, no other customers, and they wouldn’t take me! What complete [insert favorite insulting profanity here] they are. This is their philosophy: Who cares about the customer? I want to go home a half hour early. There is no way that I will ever have my car serviced here and I suggest that you should not either.

I usually don’t write reviews but I had such a great experience here. I brought in my Saab turbo after waiting at a place down the street for over an hour for someone who wasn’t able to do the test (he couldn’t work a turbo). I brought it here and the man at the front was professional and polite, had my car in and out and it was $ 30 less here to get it done than down the street. I went home and my son fell asleep and he even said I could pick it up later, just before they close. Thought that was very polite for a smog only place! I definitely recommend going here if you need to get a smog test.

It’s hard to find a Gold Star Cali Certified smog place in the east bay. I was referred to Smogsters via a mechanic and was pleasantly surprised by quick service and fair price. When I need another gold star cert., I will be coming here.

They are friendly, helpful and quick.

I’ve had my both of my cars cars smogged here by technician Richard Martinez for several years. I have always had excellent service, a fair price, and Richard is knowledgeable, efficient and courteous. Highly recommended. There’s lots of places on San Pablo so make sure you have the right one, and ask for Richard.

Don’t go here. This guy is an idiot. Go down the street to Quality Tuneup for an effortless smog check. No coupon required.
In prior years, I smogged my vehicle at Quality Tuneup without issue. And it was time to resmog the vehicle. I went online to find coupons, and saw $ 29.95 + certificate cost for this Smogsters place. I print out the coupon and go to the facility. The moron instantly tells me the coupon doesn’t apply to my car. Why not??? It’s a 2006 model year, 6 cyclinder, and is easier to work with than any older car! I instantly drove off and went down the street to Quality. There were 2 people infront of me, but I was still in and out of Quality within 30 minutes. No fuss, no issues. Quickly in and out. And no coupon required. It was $ 30.00 + certificate costs at Quality.
Do yourselves a favor and don’t come to this shop.

$ 88.00 smog ckeck! Called in advance and was told it would be $ 60.75. I said I had a $ 25 off coupon, owner said the $ 60.75 is a current special and I did not need the coupon. Sent my wife to get the smog and he charged her $ 88.00. Went back to clear up «no coupon needed» conversation and owner said basically too bad. Horrible customer service and overall rip off for 15 minutes of work. BUYERS BEWARE!
