R & R Auto Service provides complete maintenance, service and repair on autos and trucks. We’re an official smog-​test and repair station, so you can count on us to take care of any needed adjustments if your car doesn’t pass smog testing. We’re also ASE certified.

Our services include axle and CV join repair, brakes, clutch repair, electrical, engine diagnostics and repair, exhaust systems, heating and air conditioning, preventative maintenance, oil changes, smog check program (state), transmissions, alignment and tire balancing, tire installation and repair, total vehicle inspection, radiator repair and replacement, and towing and roadside assistance.

Perry from R&R Auto Service towed me tonight via On Star when I was stranded in Berkeley. He was very professional, friendly and courteous. He responded to my location on a city street in about 20 minutes. I blew out 2 tires in a pothole on I 80. He filled both my tires to get me onto the flatbed truck.
He towed me to the dealership in Concord and helped me fill out the paperwork to drop off my car. He took attention to detail with everything even helping me get belongings out of the car. He called in the pothole to his supervisor. He calmed me down and told me things about my new car that were important. I would definitely call him again if I get stranded.

So long story. Serpentine belt snapped on the freeway and stuck me on the side of the freeway so I called Toyota care. They called these guys. Toyota told me it would be one hour and gave me the number of the towing company. After an hour fifteen I call Toyota because nobody has shown up and they say they guy is just around the corner. 20 minutes later and no show I decide to call the tow company. He says nobody has left the shop yet, all I ask him is «why did someone tell me they were right around the corner» and he starts screaming at me. I ask him to calm down and he threatens to not send a truck at all. I eventually calm him down and he sends a guy to get me. 1:40 on the side of the road and finally someone gets me. The driver says he’s just been sitting at the shop and they haven’t been busy at all. Apparently the owner was full of it.
So he drives me to Toyota and they can’t fix my belt for two days, unfortunately I have to leave that night. The very nice tow truck driver says we can go to their shop. I agree and go back there, avoiding the angry owner. The staff was very nice and let me even see what was going on as they fixed my belt. However, they did not properly install my belt. $ 230 and 100 miles later I realize my belt was not fully placed over a pulley, it then splits and rips through my crank seal, spilling oil all over my vehicle for the next 100 miles till I got home. At Toyota the next day they properly replaced the seal and belt for another $ 650.
Long story short. Owner is a jerk, staff is very nice but messed up on a repair costing me an additional $ 650 in damages. I would advise going somewhere else.

These guys continue to be my best friend in the auto service and repair business. FIRST to advise where else to go if they can’t do it. FIRST to give advice. I have a older Nissan Z, which is apparently a little difficult to hook up to the towing mechanism. Because the driver had to actually work a little harder to do his job he was visible irritated. Which I tried to ignore until he refused to park my car where I asked him. I have a two car drive way and I asked him to park the car on one side so I could still move my other vehicle I out. He simply refused. Why am I paying you to drop my car off at a particular location if you can not do it? It wasn’t like I was asking him to parallel park the car… Grrrrr!!!

They lack basic customer service skills…
Avoid them like the plague! Their drivers are jerks! One of the guys pulled up directly behind me as I was backing out of my parking space. I waved my arm to get his attention before before he got out of the truck. He didn’t notice so I blew the horn and we made eye contact. He rolled down the window and I said «Sorry, I was trying to back out.» He proceeded to put on his work shirt and get out. Giving him the benefit of the doubt that he missed, rather than ignored all the signals (reverse lights & me waving my arm more frantically now), I tapped the horn again to get his attention. To this he replied, «What!?» I reiterated that I was backing out when he blocked me in. (Mind you, as it was my assumption that he had merely missed my attempts at communication, rather than ignored them, I hadn’t yet to raised my voice at this man.) And to that he retorted «You can’t move that f*****g car?!» To which I replied, loudly, but still not swearing, «No I can’t! I tried to get your attention before you got out, but in any case, you’re in my way…» He carried on with the chiding and proceeded towards his customer. At that point I ignored all that he was saying and called the company directly.
That call, this post and the negativity of the exchange between us could have easily been avoided if 1) he hadn’t cursed at me with no prior provocation & 2) he had offered to guide me out of the spot since he felt there was enough room. (I would have asked him as much if he had exhibited at all that his vocabulary extended beyond profanity.)
Ultimately someone from his company contacted him directly and he moved just as I had asked initially, while continuing to yell at me harassingly. I’m surprised that the lady he came to help accepted his assistance, but I guess she didn’t have many options…

Yesterday they towed my car from Gilman/​4th St. at Berkeley to my mechanic at College Avenue, Oakland.
I was told that the distance is 7 to 8 miles (my Geico Insurance covers 5 miles,)so they charged me an extra $ 25.
I was sitting next to the driver in the truck (truck has no GPS or anything, driver talks on the phone and receives instructions from his boss) and we took the route; 6th street, 7th street, Ashby ave, San Pablo Ave., Alcatraz and College Ave. Today I made the exact same trip in my car and the distance was 4.8 miles.
When I called them they said that probably I took a different route than theirs! and declined to return my money.
Be very careful with their business practices, and if you can just avoid them. I’ll be also contacting to the BBB.

My rear bearing was completely screwed and they fixed it in a short amount of time but what was even better was the price and most importantly the customer service. They were extremely nice and made sure I understood the problem. They fixed my car in no time.
I will definitely come back to them! Although hopefully I don’t have to!

I was referred to this place by German Auto Sport in Berkeley after the coolant valve on my BMW burst, sending a plume of white steam across my hood before I pulled out of my driveway.
The Indian guy who picked up my car was kind, courteous, and not to mention helpful.

I used R & R in the past on my Subaru for maintenance and replacement of worn parts. They consistently provided great, honest and very friendly service. Recently they agreed to smog test my car on short notice. Knowing I was waiting for the car on what appeared to be a busy day for them, they were still able to provide quick turnaround with their usual friendly demeanor.

BOTTOM LINE AT THE TOP: Don’t sick to the prices they quote you.
On a recommendation, I called R & R Auto for a tow. I was told it would be about $ 40. But when I told the dispatcher that I wanted it towed my mechanics shop, not their’s, they said it would be $ 55.
This was annoying since my car was literally a half mile from my mechanic’s shop, and I mentioned that to the dispatcher said $ 50. I said okay.
The guy comes, tows my car to my mechanic’s shop, taking a total of about 20 minutes and then says the the total is $ 55. I told him what he dispatcher told me and he just said «$ 55» over and over.
He did a fine job in towing it, so I gave them two stars instead of one, but if you can’t honor quoted price for a tow, I can’t imagine what they’ll do to you if you get work done on your car there…

I have used R&R for decades (literally!) to service the cars I’ve owned. They have always had exceptionally fair prices, great service, and a friendly attitude.
For example, one time I was going on a road trip with friends and my alternator started acting up. End of trip? Nope. They fixed it right away and charged me an incredibly low price for the part and the repair work (and the new one worked perfectly for the life of my car).
I give them my highest recommendations!

Be careful with this auto service!!!
They asked me for my credit card twice pretending the first time did not go through successfully. When I received my credit card statement, I got charged twice and still in the process of disputing one of the charge. I think they might use this trick to other customers, if those customers don’t check their statement then the merchant end up earning money they are not supposed to! It’s a fraud!!!

Still providing such great service — very professional, amazingly fast turn-​around, entirely courteous — with bonus cordiality and neighborliness, should one show up during normal business hours. ;D Took my car in for smog check, noted that the bays were all full and parking spaces overflowing by one. Asked how long I should meander around the adjacent shopping center, figuring on a wait, and was told 25min. The sun was shining, chairs adorned the shop entrance, so I sat a while and talked to the regulars: a lady picking up her car with new tires, another talking spark plugs with a tech, and a guy stopping in on his daily constitutional with his three awesome dogs. Great neighborhood. Great neighborhood shop. My smog test was complete, and my car parked right where I’d left it, so fast I only got one cheek-​ful of wet doggy kisses, so had to ask the tech to wait a second, so chin and cheeks and forehead matched.
Seriously, I was in and out of there in 26 minutes. I’d called ahead, to see what the schedule looked like so I could make an appointment. Several shops had told me to come on in[, and see, then told me to come back at the end of the day [then the next, at one shop, and another said I could leave my car or they’d call when ready. then never called.], without bothering to answer my time-​budgeting question. This shop knows their workload and pacing, and will tell you. That earnest, honest communication earns this shop «premium» status.
And the cost of a smog check, complete with reporting to the state, cannot be beat. This is the most economical smog check station in five counties, from what I can tell. Go to the website. Get the coupon. Use it.
Then make it worth their investment, by booking all your future oil changes, tune ups, rotations, what have you. Services can be scheduled online, or by phone, or in person [and, for things like smog checks, walk-​in!]. So simple! You can even keep track of your car’s service history, by making a profile on their super user-​friendly website.
These guys are aces: a great local resource, even from a few towns over.

R&R is just past the El Cerrito Plaza on Fairmount, next to the BART station.
Over the last few years, as gas prices sky-​rocket to obscene heights, R&R usually has the lowest gasoline prices within 5 miles or so.
I recognize that saving a few cents per gallon may not add up to a whole lot, but there is a principal involved. Spending money at the higher-​priced stations sends a message that I don’t care how much they jack up my gasoline prices. Buying gas from R&R is a direct way to vote with your dollars in support of lower gas prices.
Unfortunately, their pumps require you to keep squeezing the lever to pump, instead of washing your windshield or buying a pack of gum. You can thank the CA state fire marshal for that one:

Recently I heard a thwack-​thwack-​thwack sound driving down San Pablo and discovered my poor Mini had a huge silver screw stuck in her tire. Stopping at R&R they were able to repair the punctured tire without even taking the wheel off. I happily paid $ 40 for their time and was on my way in about 10 minutes. Thanks!
I’ve chatted with the staff here on a number of occasions and they’re always super friendly. One of they guys loves Mini Coopers, so he’s always happy to see me and ask how I’m liking my ride.
They also offer towing service, which could come in handy if I ever need it.
I’ll keep coming to R&R, not only to support local small business, but also to support the cheapest gas prices in town.

I asked them to rotate my tires during my oil change. This was not done and I know this because my wheels are so dirty that if the lug nuts were touched they would show the marks. Did they even change my oil???
