Cass Morris Color and Design

I highly recommend Cass Morris if you are ready to add some color and pizzazz to your home, but you are not quite sure where to start. I knew I wanted to break away from the boring beige, but after going to Home Depot and staring at seemingly endless color choices, I felt lost, and felt like I may just have to live with the «safe» neutral tones forever. Then I remembered that a friend of mine had worked with Cass years ago, so I got her contact info and got in touch. She quickly responded to my email and we set up a time to meet. I really did not know what to expect. We spent about 1.5 hours together and it was a ton of fun! I had a vague idea that I thought a green might work here, and a blue there, but as I said, there are a zillion color choices out there and I really appreciated Cass’ input and advice. She was super easy to work with, and as opposed to facing an entire wall of colors like at Home Depot, she brought out colors in sets, which made it much less overwhelming. She provided gentle guidance, and I really felt in control of the process. We picked out colors for two bedrooms, two bathrooms, the kitchen, laundry room, and a contrast wall in the living room. I am so excited to get going with the painting. I know it will look incredible and totally transform the feel of my house. I can’t wait to relax in my bedroom, with the calming new colors, and have fun in my kitchen with its splash of «Fiesta Orange».

I couldn’t get to the computer fast enough to get this review on Unilocal. I will start by saying that Cass is amazing! It is a joy to have her in your home and while she works by the hour she works fast and furiously to get as much work done in that hour as possible. My painting contractor pays for a one hour color consult; Cass had done 100% of the work in that hour (my home is 1900 sq. ft.). Once I realized how talented Cass is and how easy she is to work with I wanted to extend our time together to consult on other color decisions I had yet to make in my home, i.e. shutter color, tile and grout color. Cass knows BM colors, she listens to you, is extremely organized and efficient, I could go on and on. Lastly, Cass and I had an appointment at noon on a rainy Saturday, traffic was terrible on I-​80; Cass called to tell me she would be a little late — she arrived at 12:05. There is al lot to be said about someone who values not only their time buy mine/​yours as well.

While browsing at the Benjamin Moore Paint Store, we saw that they had complimentary color consultants who gave advice on Saturdays. Because we were painting all of the rooms in our new home, we were particularly interested in getting some advice to ensure that the colors throughout the house would feel cohesive. We met with Cass and knew that she would be a great fit to help us.
What we enjoyed most about working with Cass was that she spends time finding out what your preferences are, not trying to choose colors for you. Once she determines what colors you like, she then helps to narrow down choices which will work in your home. So much is involved in this process since two people are usually making the decision (Cass is a fantastic mediator as well) and colors need to coordinate in each room and between rooms. Cass truly cares about your home, like it is her own. In our case, we had finalized most of our decisions but the kitchen tile was not installed. When we brought a sample of the tile to Cass at our second Saturday consultation at Benjamin Moore, she emailed us back and asked us to look at another color for the cabinets given the tile color. She really put thought into all of our colors and how they would work even after we did our on-​site consultation at the house. Cass put together a wonderful color chart that we could give to the painters which was broken out by wall, ceiling and trim colors– it was so clear even for anyone who had not been at the consultation. Cass also provided large color swatches so we could look at the colors in the house at different times of day. It was also wonderful to have a chart with each room and all of the colors outlined, which we could reference for the big picture.
We had never considered hiring a color consultant but we were so overwhelmed with choosing colors for an entire home that this was truly one of the best investments in our home. We are ecstatic with the results and the colors throughout our house are complimentary and so enjoyable. We wholeheartedly recommend Cass– she is amazing!

Cass was recommended to us by a well-​known contractor in the area and he told us she was one of the best. After meeting with Cass, we absolutely agree with him. She was on time, provided great ideas and pushed us to think of ideas that we wouldn’t have thought about. She was also very good at listening to what both my husband and I were looking for. I had never hired a color consultant before and didn’t really understand their value until I hired Cass. We were painting most of the rooms in our house and wanted to choose colors that «flowed» throughout the house and matched well with the overall house look. In a couple of hours of talking with my wife and I, Cass was able to give us a full set of colors that work really well in the house. The value comes in vastly short-​cutting the decision making process, essentially making all of the decisions in that one meeting. She follows up with a document that includes the rooms, colors, (including trim and ceiling) and paint finishes. We gave that document directly to the painters and they executed it perfectly. I also liked having a third party expert involved since my wife and I both have opinions on colors but don’t actually know what we’re doing. :-) Working with Cass made the discussion and decision-​making very smooth, and we are very happy with the how the house looks.

Came home today to our bedroom painted in the colors Cass helped me choose (she cannot choose a color for you but works with you to figure out what you really like– it’s a great collaboration). The room color is wonderful– rich and warm but also not too dark– I love it!
In one hour Cass helped me choose colors for the outside of our house and confirm the bedroom colors– a great deal! I have used her three times happily for interior consults and the one time my husband and I decided to try it on our own I spent way more on paint samples!
I think it’s important for people to understand that a color consultant can’t tell you what to do– they can’t impose their own choices. But they can learn your preferences and advise you. Cass has a real talent for looking at what you are working with, listening to what your color preferences are, and guiding you through a process of selection. There are so many colors and palettes! And she makes the process less daunting.

Cass came up with the exterior color scheme for our house a couple of years ago. We would have never come up with the colors on our own. They are perfect! We get a lot of compliments and people asking for the color details. Recently, we remodeled part of the house and again we asked Cass for help with the colors and again, she completely nailed it. The colors are absolutely perfect!
Before you hire a painter invest in some time with Cass. You won’t be sorry. You will be sorry, however, if you invest in the painting and then are unhappy with the results because you really just don’t know what you are doing.

I had no idea where to start in narrowing down my color scheme for my house. Here came Cass and we spent two and half hours together (which went by so fast) and picked out colors for my kitchen, living room, dining, room and three bedrooms. I never thought I would go with a purple tone for my accent wall where my big screen TV will be… She also found the perfect wine color for my wet bar in the kitchen. She is so patient, friendly, and a great listener! Her interior design skills also helped us figure out layout for where to put certain furniture in the house and how to help keep open space. She was very reasonably priced. I am so excited to finally have my color palette. I will update my post once I have finished painting. If you know of any good painters… send my way!

Cass has partnered with my company as a Color Consultant, and we couldn’t be happier that we found her! Cass was originally referred to us by clients who were having a difficult time agreeing on their home colors — they found Cass, brought her in, and settled their colors within a day. Scrap whatever scheme you were trying to create yourself and call Cass. The quality of her work is superb, and I (plus all of our clients who have used Cass) highly recommend her.

A few years ago we hired Cass to help with our interior colors. We have received so many compliments on our home since then. Next were two bathroom color consulations — beautiful! And now as I sit here, the painters are working hard on the exterior. I love the palette she chose for us.
You have to give her some guidelines about what look you are going for. I went around and took photos of homes that were close to what I liked in terms of colors, but I wasn’t thrilled by them. I told her what I didn’t like and why, like what they reminded me of. All of this is important information to give her. She has a system for helping you pick out colors that saves time and money. But you have to bring something to the table, too. I am so happy, and so grateful. Cass is a color genius.

Superb Sense of Color
Cass has amazing taste. She turned my dreary living room into a tasteful space for which I have received compliments from every person who has ever seen it. Her sense of how colors go beautifully together is remarkable. If you recognize and appreciate beauty, but perhaps can’t achieve it on your own, hire Cass. And take her advice. You won’t regret it.

Cass showed up at our house on time and listened to my wife and I describe what we were /​were not looking for. Within minutes, she picked a color scheme that she believed would be best. To be honest, I was a bit hesitant with her selection. However, we just had our house painting and it looks amazing. My wife and I would have never picked that color scheme and what she selected works great.
We’ve had a couple of disastrous experiences with designers in the past. However, this was money well spent.

After a major renovation, one painter we interviewed suggested that we hire CASS MORRIS for the interior colors (we already had our exterior colors set). What a great recommendation that turned out to be!
Our house was still under construction when Cass saw it, but together she and I pulled off plywood barricades to get to some of our furniture so she could see our upholstery colors. We spent 3 ¾ hours together (she charged for 3 ½). Now, two years later everyone still comments on the beauty of our old home, and how the rooms flow visually.
Case in point, we had painted our dining room a sunny yellow just before the renovation and did not touch it during the work. But she saw it when we went after the furniture, and said we needed a more subtle yellow, and gave us two suggestions. We were back in the house for 6 months before my husband tackled the dining room walls again… and what a subtle, but remarkable, difference.
My kitchen was painted 7 years before with a great color, after much trial and ERROR, and was now «one» with our brand new family room. I did not want them to match but to compliment. She picked one color for the ceiling of both areas and a different, and beautifully compatible color, for the family room walls. She even showed us the best wall on which to stop the kitchen paint color vs. the family room color. This works very well, and I know that I would not have thought to go there.
Our new guest bathrooms would not have been so fun and perfectly hued, and new master bedroom, would not have been so cozy and beautiful, without her recommendations.
NOTE: It took us three full paint jobs to get that kitchen color right 7 years earlier, and it only came out right because a friend who knows color gave us a good recommendation then. Picking paint colors for walls and ceilings IS an art form!
In short, with this whole house in need of color, (including halls, new stairs, existing rooms) CASS SAVED US FROM OURSELVES.

Consider me a recovering disbeliever. Never would seek no less pay for advice about something as personal and «common sense» as what color I want to look at while eating breakfast. But working deftly with my wife and me (and our individual tastes), Cass put together a plan for kitchen, nook, and two bathrooms with new hues that enliven the rooms and fit with all adjoining space, and that we never would have come to without her. Her knowledge of colors and paint properties was to be expected, but what surprised and won me over was her approach in first sizing up the overall house context, then factoring in our espoused preferences, and iteratively working through options with us. Of course, it helped a lot that I disappeared after the first hour.

I had a terrific experience working with Cass. Choosing exterior house colors has always been a complicated and difficult experience for me. All those swatches look great on the small paint store chips, but it’s such a different story on the enormouse «canvas» of the front of your house.
I finally decided to use a colorist, and Cass was great at helping me narrow down my color choices. She took care to look at the colors in various light exposures and guided me but did not dictate to me what would work. In the end… with her suggestions and guidance… we came up with colors that look fabulous on our home.
She made it easier than I ever would have imagined!

After months of struggling to pick out colors for our SF Victorian flat, we figured it was time to bring on board a pro. Cass Morris came highly recommended by our friends who hired her to help pick exterior colors for their Mediterranean East Bay home.
Never having done a color consultation before, we didn’t know what to expect. Cass arrived, she was both friendly and profession. After introductions, we gave her a tour of the home and pointed out what colors we felt worked and where we needed help. Cass was able to tune into what our color sensibilities were and how we wanted maintain a sophisticated look, while keeping with the Victorian style. For each room, Cass suggested a family of colors and picked out a few giant color chips from her filing system of colors. She took great care to tie-​in and/​or compliment in the existing elements of the room (eg. oak floors, marble tiles, ect). Despite our very particular taste, Cass made the whole process so easy. In the end we came out with thoughtful color schemes for the kitchen, bath, and living room and hallway.
Well worth the time and investment. Finally our home will have the designer color look we’ve always wanted. Thanks Cass.

Consumer Beware! I wish I had read other reviews before hiring this person. She was in a hurry when she arrived, started by making a disparaging comment about my garden and then proceeded to hurry me through a process of choosing colors. She did not seem knowledgeable at all and wanted ME to choose colors as we went along. Paraphrasing the process: «Do you like this? What do you think of this? What colors do you have in mind?» I finally was frustrated enough to say that I wanted her to give ME suggestions based on her knowledge of what would be appropriate for the style of my house becaue it was hard for me to picture the house in different colors. She then said that for an additional $ 225, she could have someone do a computer generated photo of my house in different colors. I suggested that she tell clients of this extra charge before they hire her. Now I suspect that many of the before and after photos on her website are actually computer generated «photos» that were not actual completed color consulting and painting projects. I feel that my money was wasted, Again, consumer beware.

Cass Morris is a genius with color. What impressed me most about her is that she has been in the industry a very long time and it’s why I chose her to partner with us. We have worked with her on a number of projects for clients of ours and each time they have loved what she’s done. In fact, we still get notes from some of our clients saying they adore the chosen colors.
Color choice is a very sensitive area for people and not all color consultants can get it right. We wouldn’t go with anyone else, she takes great care and is highly professional which is what our clients need and expect. She’s hands down one of the best color consultants we’ve used.

I made a huge mistake hiring her. Folks, please do basic home work before hiring anyone. I thought she would give me good choice of matching or harmonically matching with neighbor’s house color and also matching with my roof color which is brown composition single tile. Though I said to her that I l like to have light orange as base color, there isn’t any orange contained color sample in her sampler booklet, she kept asking me how about this, until I said «yeah, I like that color». So she picked up «Birmingham cream color» and «Tuscon Red». I bought two samples of those colors and tested on my garage. Just because I like it, it doesn’t mean they are well harmonized colors. Those two color are two bright colors and competing each other. It is so ugly. reminds me like McDonald’s house. Of course I didn’t figure out until I painted on the garage. I shouldn’t get charged for the bad service I received.
Before she came to my house, I asked her if I can see my house on paper with new paints, That’s way I can see which color is best on my house, first she said «yes», and then she changed the story, and told me that most of times, it’s only need one hour to select color and your will be able to see the color of your new painted house. She only give me 2×2″ for two different competing colors.
Basically, I had almost harassed to choose color in one hour so she can collect money for the time being here. To me, she didn’t care where or not it really looks nice or not.
Please avoid those professional unless you have money throw away.

We hired Cass Morris for a color consult for our place. Although she said over the phone that she works fast it turned out she went over the expected time frame and she made certain to charge us for every minute over too. It would have been nice if she rounded down given that it was over what we thought we would have to pay.
Further, the 2 paint contractors she recommended for us turned out to be complete and total duds which cost us time and energy wasted and which leads us to believe Cass does not have her finger on the pulse of the industry as she would probably want you to believe.
That said, we are relatively happy with the colors we picked with her although we sort of wonder if her competitor may have been able to do an even better job because some of our guests have said the colors chosen would not have been their first choice.
