Monro Muffler Brake & Service

My oil light came on and I was late for a meeting in Hartford. I got there before it opened and the guy did my oil change before the service guys even arrived. He even called the place where I normally go to confirm what oil I use. I owe them!

I was recommended to replace my air filter and rear brake pads. Then after the technician test drove it, they suggested I have the exhaust system checked. The next few days my car began stalling and making a loud engine noise. I promptly went to the Nissan dealership as my car is leased and less than two year old. At the dealership, they informed me that the air filter (which was the wrong one) was installed upside down and the cap was never replaced. Dealership air filter was CHEAPER than the incorrect aftermarket air filter Monro sold me. This caused ALL the issues and was corrected in less than five minutes. LESSON LEARNED. It’s too bad bc up until this experience, it appeared this was a safe/​quality/​trustworthy place to service my vehicle.

I live in VT but took a trip to East Haven to see my parents. on my drive home I felt/​heard something odd in my car and thought it might be my breaks. In a jam we took my car to Monroe and they told us my back breaks were shot and it would be around 1000 dollars to fix them. After talking to the mechanic my dad did some research on the parts and called his usual mechanic and realized we were being HIGHLY over charged. we went back to ask why and they said ‘this is the price our boss makes us charge’ we told them not to do any work and give us the car back. we took it to someone we know and trust and we were told that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the breaks. the noise was a loose axel that needed to be tightened. not only did they lie but they planned on seriously overcharging us for parts that weren’t necessary. I recommended not giving them your business, or at least getting more than one opinion before giving them your business.

Went here for an oil change. Best deal on an oil change you’ll find anywhere.
The staff is very friendly and informative.
Here’s the problem: I went there last for an oil change and the guy told me «You need rubber all around,» which means he was saying I needed 4 new tires. Funny thing though, at the time I went in for an oil change, I had just had FOUR BRAND NEW TIRES put the car less than 3 months prior. ANYONE looking at those tires would know they were brand new. Even though they were VERY OBVIOUSLY BRAND NEW, he told me twice that I need «rubber all around».
Now, even if I knew NOTHING about cars, even if I was the biggest, dumbest sucker in the world… shouldn’t I be able to remember that I JUST had my tires replaced?
Strange. Shady? I’d go back to Monro one more time to give them another chance… just not the RT-​80 East Haven location.

They’re good at their jobs. The wait can be long, but they won’t pull any fast ones.

Every time I forget how bad these guys are and accidentally go there I’m quickly reminded why.
The second to last time I was there I dropped off a tire to be repaired and they said it would be done the next day. When I called the next day they said it would be another day. It kept getting bounced back like this for a week and a half before I finally went in and sat there for 30 minutes while one of the guys stopped what he was doing so he could finally repair the tire.
The last time I was there I had made an appointment to get my radiator flushed for 1 pm. A radiator flush is a fairly quick process so I figured I’d just sit there and wait. It took over 4 hours before they finally got to doing my radiator flush and the bill was over $ 100. I was kicking myself as I drove home and saw the sign at the car wash less than a quarter of a mile from my house doing radiator flushes for less than half the price.
I can’t remember the details of all the times I’ve gone there before except that it’s always a chore.

I’ve been here with two different tire problems. Both times, I thought the tire was beyond repair and I fully expected to be told that I needed to replace it. Both times, I encountered friendly, honest employees who went out of their way to help me by fixing the tire for a reasonable price. I will be back!
