I think people want to be kind to food trucks because they are preparing interesting food in a hot box immersed in carbon monoxide. OK, I get it. However that wouldn’t excuse food not being as it is described. The O&A poutine. Whoever told you those were good fresh sqeaky cheese curds was pulling your leg. And cut into perfect little cubes? Perhaps reevaluate the blackened fries recipe, as my friends and I could detect no Cajun at all. Nor could we detect horseradish in the gravy. Maybe they should have just put some olio and aceto on it.

BBQ tater tots are the bomb! Fried mac and cheese balls are pretty awesome too. Definite truck to add to your ‘must visit’ list!

My fiancée and I decided to finally stop by Fortnight brewery. We have lived down the road for two years now. We were excited to see the food truck! Olio and Aceto, the name of the food truck means oil and vinegar in Italian. A fun fact! Tonight we had a Southern BLT– Fried Green Tomatoes, Maple Pepper Bacon, Pimento Cheese and Romaine on Wheat. Omg! It was amazing. The pimento cheese and homemade mayo was outstanding! A must try! For the vegetarians they also offer the up tempeh as a substitute for any protein. I think I’ll have to try it next time. We also ordered truffle mac and cheese bites. I thought they were good, nothing special. My fiancée wasn’t a fan of the truffle oil so he didn’t have more than a bit. The service was quick. We had our food in five minutes or less. The two ladies running the truck were friendly. They lost power for a few minutes but that didn’t stop them from finishing orders. A+ for effort! Several minutes later the power was back on and the truck got pretty busy. I will be back and definitely want to stop at the café they just opened in Chapel Hill.

I had lunch this week at their new café location on Elliot… it was only three days after opening, and they are off to a great start! Lunch was delicious and reasonably priced, especially considering how gourmet the sandwiches are, and all the high quality ingredients they are putting into their dishes. My friend and I had the Hot Southern Club and the Braised Beef Sandwich… both were incredible. The Hot Southern Club was delicious(I love fried green tomatoes). The braised beef sandwich was amazing — the beef was so well prepared, it was delicious. Portions are very, very generous here. Their sweet potato chips are addicting, and the strawberry water and mint water were really fun to have for a drink. I haven’t tried the nutella cookies, but they sounded decadent. The place is clean, cute, and the staff is friendly. This is a real treat to have in Chapel Hill! I am excited to try their breakfast!(Maple Butter… what?!)

Went for lunch with coworkers on a Wednesday at their new stationary location on S. Elliott Rd in Chapel Hill. Overall, the food was great, but there are still a few improvements to be made. Atmosphere: The interior is painted a nice pastel color, but is kind of plain. They have decent furniture and outdoor seating, which is a plus. We opted for inside though as it was a 90-degree, super humid North Carolina summer afternoon. Menu Options: They have a small, but fairly diverse menu. There were some vegetarian /pescatarian options in the fish and chips, pimento grilled cheese, caprese sandwich, café salad, and Caesar salad. Food: I ordered the whole café salad — a bed of mixed greens with candied nuts, dried cherries, and goat cheese with vinaigrette dressing — for $ 7. It was a great, flavorful salad. The ingredients were fresh and that dressing was AMAZING. However, I was disappointed by the portion size. An hour and a half afterwards, I was starving again. Two of my coworkers got the Asian salad, and they were also hungry shortly afterwards. I think increasing — as in doubling — the portion size and adding side of bread or something of that nature would help with satiety. One of my coworkers got the caprese sandwich. She enjoyed it, but said the creamy pesto made the sandwich a little richer than she would have liked. I tried some of her sweet potato chips — okay, ate pretty much all of them — that came on the side of the sandwich. They were perfectly crisp and super addicting. My other coworker got a steak sandwich that was GINORMOUS. It had a huge meat to bread ratio. She couldn’t even finish half of sandwich it was so huge. But personally, I am all about the leftovers. So I think she got a pretty good value, especially compared to those of us who got the salads. There were some nice touches to the meal such as the homemade pickles. I am not really a pickle person, so I’m not going to try to comment on those. But I appreciate that they were made in house. Also, they had free, bougie flavored water. The strawberry water was super refreshing. My coworker got the mint water and said she couldn’t taste the mint though. The cashier accidentally charged my boss for a drink, and offered her a free nutella-filled chocolate chip cookie sprinkled with salt. The cookie was really rich and buttery and everything you could want from a cookie. The bite I had was too salty, but it was still good. I think this should be one of their claim-to-fame products, and probably what is going to keep me coming back to Olio & Aceto. Also, I am very interested in their breakfast menu, and if I can motivate myself to actually wake up early enough, I will definitely return to try it out.

What a great addition to the Triangle food truck family! Olio and Aceto has a small but well-prepared menu. The night I went, there were fish and chips, a pork sandwich, and a grilled cheese. I opted for the grilled cheese – and it wasn’t just any old grilled cheese: pimento cheese with green tomatoes and bacon. Wow, it was tasty(if a bit messy). And, I saw little bags of cookies out for sale. Checked the menu, saw that they are Nutella-filled chocolate chip cookies. WHAT!!! I’m in. They were amazing. Soft chocolate chip cookies with a dollop of Nutella baked inside. Oh my goodness. They were saltier than normal cookies, which paired with the Nutella really well. You must get them if they have them when you stop by. Staff was friendly; food came out quickly. You can find Olio & Aceto at Fortnight in Cary a few nights a week(they also have a lot of other gigs, and regularly attend the food truck rodeos).
