Skip the burger and eat the arepas. ALL the arepas! Astoundingly delicious. The burger had too much bread, and my dining companion said the«pork chop» that was on the burger was different from last time. This time it was more like a big chunk of ham or Canadian bacon. Not bad, but just nowhere near as delicious as the Arepas. They have a lot of things listed on the menu that aren’t available(our first choice of arepa wasn’t available, and only one of the handful of desserts was available. I reaaaaaallllllly wanted the tres leches. We settled for flan, which was ok too.) It’s all good though– our dinner was very delicious, filling, and satisfying. If I find myself again in Durham, I’ll return to this exquisite little place.

If you want very authentic, always delicious Venezuelan food in addition to arepas, handmade to order fruit juices, great environment, great prices and most importantly top notch outstanding customer service then you should try EPACHAMO. I had been here twice with my in-laws and husband. The food always taste great, the portions are right, but the service in combination with the food just make this restaurant a great one to always visit. DONT even waste your time with that GUASACA establishment in Raleigh. Is just not worth it. With Epachamo restaurant you won’t go wrong or regret it.

Amazing amazing food! Let me start with the restaurant atmosphere, it is a nice sit-down restaurant with a great environment and good for family dinners. We ordered the«arepitas dulces» and an order of the«tequeños». They were both REALLY good. If you like sweet and salty treats, I highly recommend the«arepitas dulces». The tequeños, I can tell you were one of he best I’ve had outside of Venezuela. We ordered three arepas for the 2 of us. These are filling… And very delicious. We had a veggie pabellon arepa, a regular pabellon arepa, and a rumbera(I think!). These were all delicious, particularly the pabellon ones with the fried plantains. I have tried the arepas at Guasaca and I can tell you, as a Venezuelan myself, that if you want a more traditional experience you want to come here 100% over Guasaca. They have good prices. Delicious place, great fast service, and very very nice family running the place!

The food at this place that I’ve had is AMAZING! I came the first time to celebrate a classmates birthday and got one of their arepas(the one with beans on the side, cheese inside as well as plantains and the meat) and it was DELICIOUS! I’ve had an arepa before and didn’t like it so I was wary but I’m so glad I got it. The fried sweet plantains are delicious by themselves and if you like the salted thin plantain chips they also have those. I’m naturally not a fan of the chips so I can’t speak either way on them. The second time I came, I got one of their burgers. I was blown away by the fact that it came with a pork chop on top of the burger meat in the bun! Definitely the best burger I’ve ever had. The flavors worked perfectly together and the fries even added a little something extra when I paused to eat a couple. I shocked myself by eating the whole burger but it was just THAT good! I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for lots of flavor and an affordable meal. Only downside is sometimes they were out of things we asked about and they had the fans at like high speed when it’s already cold outside and the place wasn’t packed enough to have that much body heat.

Slow service but I feel bad since they were very busy and only had one server working at the moment. I’ve always heard that this place had authentic Venezuelan food… but to me it isn’t something I would normally crave. I would have to go back and try something different next time. I just had a chicken salad arepa and a fried cheese appetizer.

This was my first time trying an arepa and I was not disappointed! I loved it! The service was great and very helpful! We came on a Saturday night and the music was awesome. The plantain chips that came with the meal were delicious. All in all it was a wonderful first experience with Venezuelan food!

I got an Arepa that had beef in it. The meat was pretty good, but it had this«white cheese» in it that reminded me of paneer. My friend liked it, but it was kind of sense to me. The place is good for a quick and casual bite and they give 10% off to students who show their ID.

My first time trying Venezuelan food and wasn’t disappointed! I got the Arepa la Rumbera, which supposedly is ham based on the menu description but it looked and tasted like roast pork. That’s a good thing though — super moist and flavorful. The cheese was melted and the bread is really good except the bottom kept sticking to the paper underneath which was annoying because I’d have to peel the arepa off every time I set it down. Oh and the plantain chips are mild and good dipped into the sauce, which also goes well with the arepa. It was kind of noisy inside, but not too disruptive. The price is unbeatable though — less than $ 7 for the meal including the tip.

Yes! Another non-American cuisine restaurant making its way into Durham. I really enjoyed the food here at Epachamo. Firstly, the service is really friendly and very informative for the n00bs. We started off with taquenos — basically cheese sticks, but also basically delicious! The sauce it comes with is yummy. I got the Arepa de Pabellon grilled. There were two plantain slices and I felt it could have used a bit more than that. I also had to ask for more sauce — without it, it would have been a bit dry. Overall, the meal was filling and satisfying. The place seems to be family run and it shows they very much care about their business! Highly recommend and I am definitely coming back!

Service: 4 Food: 4 Ambience: 3 Date/Time: 10/11/20157:00pm This restaurant offers some pretty decent tasting chicken salad arepas and a very good cachapa(corn pancake) stuffed with chicken. The food is really good, but I have to admit, I still favor Guasaca in Raleigh quite a bit. So far nothing has beat their avocado chicken salad arepa! In reading the other reviews, there was a lot of talk about how slow the service was for them, but tonight, with more than half the restaurant filled, the service was pretty good, and the server was friendly and accomodating when asked about her favorites. I will agree on other reviews regarding the noise. There is quite a bit of noise in the place, so bring your earplugs :-) If you’re in the area, I’d certainly recommend stopping in, but if you’re in Raleigh near the fairgrounds, compare Guasaca and tell us what you think :-) Sorry, no pics… I was too hungry to remember, and an empty plate seemed to not be much help for pics :-)

Visiting here from NYC, the owners and the staff were very helpful. Everything we ordered was excellent. Came with a group of 8 all of us with different taste in food. Everyone loved what we ordered. The sangria was on sale and it was definitely tasteful. I will absolutely recommend the chimichuri churrasco sandwich. Nice bar area, and live DJ came in around 9pm. Obviously a great place to hangout with family or friends.

Thank god. Yeah it’s new and still working out the kinks of service, but the food is killer, even/especially for Ninth Street. A necessary addition.

We got a sandwich and two arepas. Meats were juicy and the sauce was tasty. The planta chips were kid of dry and not much flavorful, the dipping sauce came with the chips was very good. From outside, we did not feel like going in because the windows are completely black. However, once set inside, it’s not that bed. It’s not too dark. They serve food on paper plates. Tips for paper-plate surved food? Well. Food was tasty. I would give 3 star, but my husband insists 4 star. 3.5 star. Rounded up. So 4 star.

Delicious food! My husband and I came here to specifically try the arepas. We had eaten them before at other places and wanted to see how these measured up. They are the real deal and a must-try if you come here. I have to eat gluten free(Celiac) and was told all of the arepas are gf if you get them grilled. My husband and I split 3 arepas between us and it was a perfect amount of food. If you’re starving, you could maybe eat 2 but they are pretty filling. We tried the roast beef, chicken(the one without the peas), and the shredded beef. All were amazing — you can’t go wrong! The chicken may have been my favorite but it’s a toss up really. The place itself is interesting. It is very new so they might still be decorating/working out the menu. I feel like this place would have been so much better as a non-sit down restaurant. It’s small inside and there is a large bar area. They could have just gotten rid of the bar and had people order at a counter making more room to sit down… but whatever. The food speaks for itself they don’t need a fancy restaurant! You can tell it’s authentic family owned as the whole family works there — I loved that. All in all it’s a great place for lunch if you want good authentic Venezuelan food.

I walked in with low expectations but walked out a convert because they clearly know what they are doing in the kitchen. I had the Arepa Reina Pepiana, which was moist and filled to the brim with creamy chicken and smooth avocado. The plantain chips and dipping sauce were a perfect compliment. So much flavor. Service was a bit slow and the ambiance is bar style but the warm, fresh arepa and good prices made it well worth it. I will be back very soon.

New Apepas place brings something needed and missing to Durham. Very authentic and delicious. I got the Arepa Llanera. Although smallish at first glance, it was stuffed full, and a totally legit lunch. Meat was flavorful as was the sauce. The plantain chips were a delicious bonus. They have a vegetarian option not on the menu, arepas stuffed with mushrooms, black beans and cheese that I can’t wait to try. Worth a trip, and I bet it will improve over time.

Nice addition to the 9th St strip! We came on a relatively quiet Saturday night for cocktails(not the hip pretentious kind, but the summery ones that call for maraschino cherries and paper umbrellas) — the Venezuelan Libre is colorful and delicious, as are the fruity frozen margaritas. Service was great, and seems like a cool, fun place to hang out. Also, the arepas la pelua with cheese and meat!!! Hearty and tasty, perfect with fruity drinks or Venezuelan beer :-)

I was always a fan of Mitch’s, in terms of food, friendliness, and space. Now that Mitch has headed back to North Durham, it’s nice to see that another purveyor of delicious food and drink has decide to pick up the Mitch’s torch and take over his old stomping grounds. While the service was great, it soon became clear that Epachamo is still working out the kinks. Once seated, the waiter explained that it would be easier to list the menu items that had been 86ed versus the ones they were still serving. No seafood, toppings for most of the burgers, or small areas. Dismayed with the lack of arepitas, I ordered the arepa de pabellon – typically shredded stewed beef, black beans, friend swet plaintins, and white cheese. In my case, I got it without the beef and, thanks to an excellent suggestion from the waiter, with mushrooms. Much to my chagrin, the black beans were served on the side. To drink, the Venezuelan Libre. My arepa was tasty, cheap, and deceptively filling. My drink, as it turned out, was quite possibly the best deal in town. 4 ounces of rum, a bunch of fruit, and a few other key ingredients for the princely sum of $ 6. I look forward to coming back to sample a few of the items I missed the first time around.

Yummmmmmm! The arepas were so fast, so delicious, and we can’t wait to go back. I had the arepa de Pabellon. It was fresh out of the kitchen, and the beef, the sweet plaintains and cheese were such a delicious combination. It took me back to Venezuela. The Mr. had the arepa la Llanera. He loved that the roast beef had a nice grilled Flavor, it was a nice thick slice, which fell apart in our mouths when we ate it. It worked so nice with the cheese and avocado. We also had the Tamarindo Margarita and the Raspberry Mojito. Very nice and friendly service. I’m scared to give such a good review because I almost want to keep this place a secret to avoid future lines out the door.

Great addition to 9th street diversity. Stumbled by on opening day(Saturday May 30th), open to try something we went in, very happy we did. Food well prepared and very good. Caraquena Burger was not only Venezuelan style, it was out of world good. Pork Chop on burger, who would have thought. Looking forward to going back soon to experience the rest of the menu.
