Sunrise Landscape + Design is a full service landscape management and design company. Since 1986 Sunrise has been known as one of the premier landscape firms for quality, craftsmanship and service in Northern Virginia.

We offer many services to help improve and maintain your landscape in both our Landscape Management department as well as in our Design Build Department. Under Landscape Management we can take care of both residential and commercial clients needs relating to lawn care or grounds maintenance. Some of those services may include:

In our Landscape Design + Build department form, function and aesthetic appeal are key elements that our designers consider when creating a customized outdoor living space for your home. Your ideas, needs and priorities are taken very seriously by our design team prior to developing a landscape plan for your review. Some of our projects include: Outdoor Kitchens, Water Features, Fire Pits, Patios, Retaining Walls, Walkways, Landscape Lighting, Installation of Trees, Shrubs, Plants and Flowers.

History

Established in 1986.

Sunrise Lawn/​Landscaping Services, Inc. was formed in 1986 in a small shop located in Reston, Virginia. It began with two employees, two mowers, and a pick-​up truck that had been in our family since 1964. We have steadily grown to over 40 employees, with a variety of trucks and equipment that allow us to accomplish virtually any landscape related task.

The Sunrise name has been in my family for over 60 years. First, as Sun Rise Dairy located in Reston/​Herndon, Virginia, and then my father and grandfather owned and operated Sunrise American (Service Station) located at the intersection of Route 7 and Route 606. Later, the name was changed to «Sunrise Amoco».

Sunrise Lawn/​Landscaping Services, Inc. has evolved into Sunrise Landscape + Design, a full-​service landscape maintenance design/​build company. We offer many services to help improve and maintain your landscape.

Business Owner

Joe Markell is the President and CEO of Sunrise Landscape + Design. He started the company in 1986. Joe currently designs many of our beautiful landscapes Sunrise has created and runs the design + build side of the company.

Joe grew up in the Great Falls/​Reston area of Virginia. Joe currently lives in the Leesburg area with his wife and 4 children. In his free time he enjoys fishing, hunting, working in the yard and attending his children’s many sporting events.
