Apex Wireless

MetroPCS is cutting off service to my janky old phone, so I came in to replace it with another janky, slightly-​less-​old phone. I’d already called ahead about getting the plan-​compatible phone I needed.
We get started, and the guy asks for my password. I’ve never used a password in relation to this phone since I got it, so if there is one, it must have been generically assigned or something. I tell the guy I don’t think there is one and he takes my DOB instead. Then…
«What was your pet’s name? Your first pet’s name?»
«I’m sorry?»
«The name of your first pet.»
I tell him, assuming he’s setting a new password or something.
«Nope, that’s not it.»
«Not what? My password? Yea, I know. I don’t know any password.»
«That’s ok. We can just use your birthdate.»
Which I already gave you, so why did you wanna know my dog’s name? Was the plan to survey me about my life and randomly guess at details that might be my password? Very odd, and I’d have just laughed it off, but then the guy told me I’d have to pay more money for the phone I came in for than the other MetroPCS store in town quoted, and that he himself confirmed at the beginning of the conversation. «We’re not a corporate store, so you can’t get that price.»
Very frustrating to waste my time going over there to be told I’d have to pay more just because it’s a different store. It’s the same sign out front, and the place wasn’t exactly what you’d call bustling with business.
Phone stuff is pretty frustrating and circuitous in general, and this place sure ain’t making it any easier. I’m taking my business elsewhere.
