Good Olde Yum Yum

I called the yum yum on a whim in January 09 for an order of cupcakes for my son’s first birthday. All the stuff I had gotten as a drop in customer had been good, so I figured, local, why not. Well, I placed the order for about 3.5 dozen cupcakes of various varieties. The party on was on Saturday Jan 3, so it was over a holiday period, so to speak. On the Wednesday before the party (3 days before), I got a call asking about specific icing coloring. I had given the info with the order, but no big deal, so I re told them «blue». «Oh, we had green, we can just scrape it off and re do it». Umm, scrape it off? The cupcakes aren’t getting picked up til Saturday, you didn’t already make them did you?” No, we didn’t, we will make them that morning. Wasn’t a good feeling. Went to pick them up, sure enough, green icing and the cupcakes were cold as if they had been in a fridge vs. freshly baked. Broke one open, and it definitely wasn’t fresh. So they made them on Dec 31^st, and expected me to buy them 3 days later. AND they lied about it. Now, I won’t even go in there for a spur of the moment. If they didn’t want to do the order over the holiday, they should have just not taken it. Very poor business relations! My sister in law spent the morning making the cupcakes for me instead.

It can be very hard to find a GOOD bakery in the sticks. Frankly, it can be hard to find a GOOD bakery in the city, too. All things considered, the Yum Yum is good for the little burg of Dracut.
I don’t like pastries that are sickeningly sweet… so much sugar, it makes your teeth hurt. I thought the pastry here was pretty decent. The true test for me is cheese danish. All to often, the cheese filling is loaded with sugar and tastes like frosting. If I ask for cheese, I want cheese! I enjoyed the Yum Yum’s cheese danish. The filling was sweet, but not overly so. I also thought the actual pastry was flaky and tasty.
