This Stop&Shop’s footprint grew a couple of years back with a physical expansion that included more parking(an issue in busy downtown Dobbs Ferry since many seem to use the store’s lot while shopping or dining elsewhere) as well as more front and back office space. Although it isn’t a large store by suburban standards, it nonetheless has a reasonably comprehensive selection of groceries. They only have a small selection of prepared foods(not that we’ve ever tried any since we cook), but their meat selection includes a reasonable selection sometimes including specialty items(such as fresh duck breast and leg); they have only a small fresh fish counter and we only buy their produce when it is a freshly stocked sale item. Unfortunately their expansion included adding self check-out aisles that frequently have problems and staff often seems to watch from afar rather than coming over to assist customers in a timely manner.

The self check out machines make errors all the time. Good help must be hard to find because half the staff are right in the front of the store lying down on the curb, smoking, yapping on the phone when they are on break. Ever heard of taking breaks away from the front of the store? kind of a bad image. and why did they stop selling light bulbs at this location? since when have light bulbs gone out of style. And then they run out of plastic bags and how are you supposed to take your stuff home? Tell that to the employee and watch how stupid and defensive they become. Get lost stop and shop, your staff suxks, pay more and maybe employ harder workers, hmm?. From now on, im shopping online and get my stuff from stu’ leonards. At least their employees have manners and class and shopping online I don’t have to deal with fools

Solid prices, clean, fresh produce, lots of selection. Stop and Shop is a pretty nice grocery store where you can pick up a week’s worth of groceries for ~$ 50 if you shop smart. The customer service isn’t perfect, and the sandwich shop in the back could be better. But all things considered, I think S&S is a solid grocery store.

Absolutely terrible produce. I don’t think I’ve EVER found anything fresh there. The onions and tomatoes are always moldy and old. The customer service isn’t much better.

If I could give this negative stars I would. I’ve been having a few really bad experiences here, but I’ve neglected to write a review before yesterday simply because I had faith and wanted to give this store another chance. This is no longer the case. Yesterday, after finding a moldy tomato, I noticed that the entire produce section was littered with moldy fruit and vegetables! I have never been so simultaneously shocked and disgusted by an institution in my entire life. I have lost all respect for stop and shop as a franchise, an institution, and a grocery store. I will not be returning, and I urge each and every one of you to do the same. I will post a picture following my review. A.H.

THEWORST. Typical weekend: 2 cashiers on duty, long lines, 2 helpers, no manager, self– checkout machines making mistakes right and left, especially when something’s on sale – they mysteriously don’t know the sale prices. You have to be very vigilant! Today, one of the 2 helpers was a trainee who didn’t know how to do anything, and a man who’s offended many women with his arrogant sexist attitude. The store pushes its proprietary brand of food by overpricing name brands, even resorting to not stocking or re-stocking them, and hiding them in inconspicuous places in a display so you’d never know they’re there. As for the food: nearly every type of fruit has something wrong with it: rotten spots inside that you can’t see from the outside, cut-up fruit that has started to ferment, mangoes that go from hard and green to rotten inside, moldy berries hidden underneath the good ones in the package, dented and scarred melons, frost-bitten grapes… Milk? I bought skim milk that went sour 2 weeks BEFORE its sell-by date. Pickles? A shelf full of expired jars. Canned black olives? Green slime inside the can. I’m done with this place. I’d rather drive to the next town and pay more at DeCicco’s. I’ve never had a problem with anything I’ve bought there.

Their produce is always very fresh, and they run out of organic before other produce! I love their large selection of non-GMO verified project products, I do all my food shopping here!

Stop & Shop was recently renovated, and it looks great! Very clean, large selection of foods, mini-carts available, abundant amount of express check-out registers and virtually empty in the mornings. Another plus is that S&S not as expensive as it used to be. I was able to buy a week’s worth of groceries for under $ 60. My only complaint is the lack of ethnic products(ie Goya foods and such). Otherwise, I like it way better than the A&P in Hastings.

This well-located supermarket finally got an upgrade, and it has that new, clean look that is so different from the old version. In the center of Dobbs Ferry, it is an easy walk from apartments in downtown and a key ingredient for why 10% of Dobbs residents don’t own a car. So if you’re looking to transfer your city life to a suburban downtown, you can do it here. After coming off the train, walk over(or get off Dobbs’ free shuttle bus) and get food to cook for dinner. And now they have a really solid bike rack, although wish they had put it under a roof. Still wish they had better brands like those found at the much smaller, yet seemingly better stocked, DeCicco’s in downtown Ardsley. Why no Organic Valley milk?

Let’s be honest, this stop & slop and all the supermarkets in westchester are dumps, even the new stop and shop is built exactly as they did in 1960! No competition and mob run grocery business will ensure this goes unchanged.

Ok… this Stop and Shop is SLIGHTLY better than the one in Tarrytown. A little larger, better selection, cashiers are a little more awake. Prices are ok, especially on the produce(cheaper than an A&P). The only thing I don’t get is why there are always large groups of teenagers just hanging out in there. Nothing else to do in Dobbs Ferry?
