I had a connecting flight on a Sunday in Detroit and stopped at Max & Erma’s for breakfast in terminal A. There are plenty of places in terminal A to grab a bite to eat but not many of them are open at 7:30am on a Sunday. Anyway, Max & Erma’s was open and they had a breakfast menu so that worked for me. There were very few people in the restaurant and I grabbed a seat at the bar. I was approached immediately by the woman behind the bar who got me an orange juice. I opted for the original breakfast featuring bacon or sausage, breakfast potatoes, two eggs, toast, and fruit. The food came quickly and it was quite good. The bacon was crispy, the potatoes crunchy, and the eggs were cooked well. Perfect greasy spoon type of breakfast. The only thing I didn’t like about this place was the overstaffed wait staff/kitchen staff who had nothing to do given that the restaurant was mostly empty who were camped out at the table behind me yakking about what they did the night before, laughing at each other, etc. I’m not against people conversing at work or having fun with the coworkers but it just felt very unprofessional to be sitting at tables in the restaurant having having those conversations with customers nearby. The food gets a 4, the service a 3. Would I stop by for breakfast again the next time I’m flying through Detroit? Yup. 3 stars.

Burger was fabulous for an airport joint! Service was great just the cleanliness of the restaurant was what caught my attention the most.

Fine meal for airport food. Our meal of two burgers was about $ 25. Neither of us got any beer, but the restaurant seemed to have a decent selection. I tried the black bean burger. It was loaded with guac and salsa. Over all it was one of the better black bean burgers I’ve had. The fries tasted a little burnt and the servers weren’t terribly friendly. For that, Max & Emma’s gets three stars.

What a joke this place is. I ordered a california club to go and a beer. I kept trying to give the waitress my card to speed up process. Finally i get food and get on plane only to realize my sandwich had NOBUN. When i got back home and called them, they acted like there wasnt a thing they could do about. I guess they dont care since repeat biz is not that big

Super fast service– ordered a burger up front and got it in less than 10. Juicy burgers and sandwiches on the run or a dining and bar area. Hostess was super friendly and efficient.

Was here for a layover and decided to get some food before the last leg of my trip. I ordered the«ragin cajun buger» Sounds awesome and flavorful, but it was a bland piece of beef with cajun seasoning slapped on top as if it were a last minute mistake. Edible burger, but definitely not flavorful… maybe they should mix the seasoning into the beef itself or something…

This is a restaurant inside the airport. I’m not a big fan of the chain restaurants that are inside the airport, but let’s face it, at the airport travelers are a captive market. Especially when there is a connecting flight, and you have a little downtime, at some point you have to eat. We stopped in here to grab a bite and kill a little time between flights. Our server was not the most efficient server, however she made up for it with her positive attitude and 100% effort. The manager of the place was very impressive, as I saw him walking around, he seemed to have a lot of energy, and was helping his team out with various tasks. This is nice to see and I truly think it makes restaurants run better, and the customer experience that much better. The food was just average. It wasn’t bad and it wasn’t great, & I think this is why I’m not a huge fan of airport food establishments. Because they cater to the masses, everything seems to gravitate towards a generic flavor, in an effort to please as many people as possible. If you have a layover or you get to the airport and you’re hungry, this isn’t a bad place to eat. It is clean, it is quick, the food is acceptable, and the prices are average.

The worst… and I mean WORST place to eat in the airport. Staff is completely incompetent. Food orders came cold, sent it back… even worse second round. The manager of this place should be fired

Stopped in here during a layover and got the Tortilla Soup cup. It was unspectacular but fine for what I was looking for… something small and cheap to hold me over until I got home. It couldn’t have been more than 10 minutes from the time I walked in until the time I got my check. However, my waitress seemed to forget about me when it came time to run my card. Nevertheless, she was friendly and apologized for the wait. You can do much worse at an airport.

Stopped here during a layover. I had the garbage burger(which isn’t as gross as it sounds!) which had guacamole and bacon and loads of other stuff. Very good and HUGE! Great selection of local craft beer too. I understand it’s an airport and prices are high but over $ 50 for two burgers and two beers is a little much.

Service was fast. The TMC(Tomato Mozzarella Ciabatta) was good other than the sun dried tomato overload on the salad. Would have gotten 4 stars if the beer pricing wasn’t redonk. $ 9 for a pint? I thought DTW vendors weren’t allowed to mark up so much.

As far as airport restaurants go, you’re not missing much. It seemed as though I ordered before like 4 different tables who got there after me, they all got their food before me. Strange. The waitress was nice, but the service was just slow. Their drinks are waaaaaay too expensive. Would definitely just stick to the food and nothing else.

Got the soup and chicken sandwich. Both were awesome. Fast service too… as expected at an airport.

Avoid this restaurant at all costs! I stopped in here on a layover in Detroit. While we were being seated the gentleman at the table next to us was shouting because he had waited so long to get his food, and his check, and then couldn’t find anybody to run his card. We shrugged it off as a crabby traveler. Our server came and took our order, I ordered the black bean burger, and my dinner partner ordered a hamburger. It took 25 minutes for them to bring our orders… And when they did the food was ice cold. I mentioned this to my server– and she actually got mad at me and had to bring the manager over so she could«prove» my sandwich was cold. Do not, I repeat, do not go here.

I always enjoy the food at M&E. The garbage burger has always been one of my favorite burgers of all time. The fries are always good and fresh. For a airport restaurant it is a good stop if you have time.

I have never before seen such inattentive bartenders at a nearly empty bar. After placing a drink and appetizer order and being ignored for the next 15 minutes while the waitresses and bartenders texted and chatted, I flagged a bartender down for my food order. I was rudely told neither of my choices were available. I told them to cancel my appetizer(chips & guac which should take 30 seconds not 15 minutes). The bartender said she would have to charge me for it, despite not even receiving it yet. I told them if they did I would just dispute the charge. The manager came over and talked some sense into the bartenders. This is not how anyone should run a bar and restaurant.

I think this place would be great any other place then a busy airport. I have been here twice now and the food and service have been average. I have been lucky enough to have a long enough layover to wait for a table and be served. BUT, at the same time I understand the reason for all the bad reviews. This place is in a BUSY section of the airport and it is the only place that resembles editable food within a mile walking distance. It doesn’t matter if this place had negative stars, it is going to be booked all day, everyday where it is situated at. So what did I eat? The first visit I had a tortilla burger, it was identified as famous on the menu. I wouldn’t describe it as famous or memorable. It was okay, a little greasy, it satisfied my dinner craving. My second visit I made the mistake of flying into Detroit without a coat and had a bowl of tortilla soup(also identified as famous). The soup was better then the burger. It’s actually a recipe worthy of trying to replicate. If I flew into Detroit on a cold day again, I’de stop by for the soup. I’ve I was given any other decent choice of food in the airport I would choose it.

Stopped here for breakfast. The places seats over 100. The chairs, tables and benches are comfortable. The service is good — good coverage with enthusiastic servers. I had the breakfast plate — came with a couple eggs, toast, hash browns, sausage. It was all I expected it to be. Tasty and not a bad price. The coffee, not great. Might get one outside next time. I highly recommend this place!

Had the TMC — Tomato Mozzarella Chicken sandwich, which comes with grilled chicken breast, layered with mozzarella, fresh basil & oven roasted tomatoes on a toasted ciabatta bread with tomato basil spread. It comes with baby green salad… Sounds delicious right? Thats what I thought too. The dish overall was good/okay. I would tell whoever made my sandwich to hold off on so much spread. It made my sandwich a little soggy and messy to eat. The service was poor, I felt the server rushed my order instead taking the time to talk to me. I know eating at the airport, I won’t get outstanding service, but that is not a reason for the lack of customer service either.
