Was nervous at first when I read the reviews, some good, some not so good, but also when you read the negatives, most of the time it’s stuff that is beyond the boat and mother natures control. We are a family of 3 and my son is 8, we took the 8 hour trip on the gentle wind with captain Greg Marler. I will say it’s. It about the captain, it’s about the deckhands, they make or break the trip. Captn was a little on the dry side but he wasn’t rude or anything, he was just busy doing his job, we loved that he brought his dog with him. The Capt in doing his job did it very well! Talked to us from up top about the areas we were in and put us in great areas and we got to stay in those areas for awhile which allowed us more fishing time and not a lot of moving from spot to spot. He would tell us how many cranks to go from the bottom, he would tell us many different things and it was very helpful. I am all about the deckhands, it makes for the trip if they are personable and fun and helpful. We had Hunter and Dan, and there was a captain in training named Mike. These guys busted their asses. They helped our 8 yr old ALOT and were funny and nice and really made the trip. Mike helped our son catch quite a few fish, even a 40lb Cobia. Technically it was Owens pole and Owen was cranking in with Mikes help and then eventually Mike had to take over. It was a group effort! It was the most fascinating trip we’ve ever been on and we’ve taken at least 10 different deep sea trips. Our other fav is two George’s in tarpon springs. If you listen to what they tell you on how to hold your thumb on the line and let it down and hit bottom and crank up, you feel the fish hit it, then you crank up and you either have it or not. We saw Dolphins also and some were taking our fish. It was a great trip and we would definitely go back again!

I booked a 6 hrs fishing trip with Olin. Unfortunately, I got sea sick due to rough and choppy water. Spent the 5 hrs mostly in the restroom and didn’t do any fishing at all. I think there were 2 young girls that also got sea sick. The crew tried their best to help. I wouldn’t suggest anyone make the same mistake and try their luck on rough seas. Wait until the weather is calm. Otherwise you will be just wasting your time and money. I’m giving them 4 stars because the crew were awesome, huge boat, and price is very reasonable compare to other charter in that area.

The first trip down to Destin and my friends picked these boats. We were so disappointed from this trip out I was not sure I would come back. The mates made nasty comments about females on the boat and in front of kids in our group. We did catch fish and that was the reason for the trip in the fist place, but not as many as other trips with other boats. My friend paid extra for cleaning the fish to take to AJ’s for dinner and the fish had so many bones we could not enjoy them at all. I liked many other party boats on the same docks and have been out nearly 60 times in last several years. Book on a better boat, try any other first.

We went on a fishing trip with this group while we were in Destin. We also booked a trip with this same group last year. We caught ALOT last year and it was the same week as this year. I was NOT impressed with Greg’s(the captain) political comments the whole time we were fishing. We werent able to keep the red snappers and he blamed it all on Obama, another thing is that the deck hands did not show us how to bait our hooks like last year and we also had no towels or anything to wipe our hands off with. Also, the guys didnt hang up the fish or offer to take a picture of us like last year. Shitty service and just not a good time. Go to Sweet Jody’s if you want to keep your red snapper and deal with a more professional group.

I have never been deep sea fishing before this trip and I took my 11 year old son with me on his first trip. The hands where very nice and super helpful especially with a full boat. The worked hard so I didn’t have too. We both caught several keepers and had a great experience.

This is a review for the 6 hr group fishing trip with Gentle Winds owned by Marler Olin Charter Boats. FIrst, there was not enough seating for all of us. Second, both workers smoked like a chimney, they’re forgetting there are young kids on the boat too and non smokers on board. Third, the sink in the bathroom doesn’t work, how do you clean off fishy smelly hands? Lastly, I had no idea this was a deep sea bottom boat fishing. Had I known I wouldn’t have gone and paid so much!

After checking out several charters we chose the Gentle Winds, captained by Greg Marler and crewed by Dan and Marcus. What a great choice! First a little background on ourgroup, we were all newbies. No one had really fished before and Dan and Marcus were great, patient teachers. Even the kids(between 12 and 22) had a wonderful time. Everybody caught something. I’m sure that these guys would be great with anyone, regardless of skills. One of our primary drivers was price. We discovered that it was cheaper to charter our own boat than to be part of a larger charter. When we returned home we had caught more fish than the larger charter boat with 40 people. These guys know how to put you«On top of the fish». It was literally, drop your line in, wait 10 seconds and reel it back in with a 22 inch snapper. Great trip, great people and great value!
