Saltwater State Park

This place holds a unique place in my heart. This Is where I asked my girl out. (It was a big deal back then okay?)
It’s a tiny park with sand, grass and water. You need one of those discovery passes to hang out here but… who cares? Really.
If there’s sun shine I have found this place to be overwhelmingly crowded though. What are the odds; Washingtonians will be bare the beach in shorts and flip flops if its 50 degrees and a little sun shine.
Walking path is clean and full of view.

Was not impressed! For $ 35.00 per night plus some additional fees (on-​line charges and non-​resident fees) we got nothing besides overgrown weeded site, no hook-​ups and a filthy bathroom. Way over priced for what you get. Campground host came by once, said he was up top but have no idea where that is. Campground has potential but is in disrepair and unkept. Too bad they have let this get to the his point. Never felt real safe. Beach area looked okay, but like the CG was dirty. Would not recommend other than the location was just okay for site near Seattle area. Gave it one star for the wild blackberries growing at the creek side that made a yummy cobbler and the location to Seattle.

Why not just camp on the SEATAC tarmac? It might be quieter. What could be a very gorgeous state park is ruined by the constant loud noise of the approaching and departing planes. As a cat, I was terrorized by the noise. I would not recommend bring pets here.
Perhaps a good campground for people who are deaf.

The campground at Saltwater State Park is in the bottom of a ravine. You would never know it at 5am when all the early morning flights start taking off every 1 – 2 minutes. You will be woken up early. If you manage to fall back to sleep, you will be woken up again.

Right under the SeaTac landing strip… planes are SO loud nearly all night long. I would not camp here unless you want to spend your time in the Puget Sound exhausted from lack of sleep. I’m from Oregon and our state parks are top notch so maybe I am a little spoiled but this park was pretty rough. I reserved a spot that claimed to have «privacy» but was so close to the next site that it was actually like sharing a campsite. Our neighbors appeared to be living in the campground and stayed up all night long being noisy and coming and going from the site in a loud pickup. The camp host was nice enough to let us move after the first night since our reservation was for 5 nights. Rangers only come by once in the morning and once around dusk. The showers cost extra and they clog and you’ll end up in ankle deep water. The toilets have trouble flushing. There is a coffee and snack stand but in the 6 days we were there it was never open. The best part of the park is the beach area, it’s a great place to watch the sunset and has a little walking path along the shore. The best aspect of the campground is that it’s about 30 minutes from downtown Seattle and about 15 from West Seattle.

Had an amazing day looking at all the marine life on the beach during low tide. Tons of crabs in the little water pockets on the beach. Saw a harbor seal swimming along the shore. Came across moon snail, star fish, clams squirting water and shells upon shells. Kids were playing in the small stream. Not much hiking here but a perfect beach park. Fish tacos were incredible at the food stand, made up for the burn band preventing grills.

My review is actually for the restaurant. Both my kiddos have nut allergies. The Tides menu is limited, but the fish is fresh and cooked to order. I asked the guy if they could do something kid-​friendly that was safe for allergies (one fish taco includes almonds), and he was great! They made a piece of cod just for the kids is a separate pan, and included wedges of lemon. The kids loved it and gobbled it up! I just really love that the food was delicious AND they were so conscientious about our allergies. I would be happy to return!

Usually a nice park to play in for the afternoon, unfortunately there’s a lot of construction going on right now and it really ruins the experience.
If you don’t have an annual Discover Pass then you’re definitely going to want to pass Saltwater State Park up — it’s not worth the charge! Currently they’re expecting to wrap up their project at the end of April, scratch this park off your list until then.

Don’t bother with this place until it’s actually done.
The interpretive center is closed. Half of the parking lot is roped off. Half of the beach is closed. The bathrooms are closed. The trail is closed. The restaurant they brag about is closed. The campground is completely closed. There are cones and piles of dirt and grass everywhere. Even the ranger station at the entrance was closed.
This unfinished «park» is a waste of your time, gas, and money. Don’t bother with it. Find something else to do with your family on your day off.

I went once there with my dog! How beautiful it is! Come again and again!

I live down the street from this park and absolutely love it! It’s so quiet and beautiful in the winter. This is definitely a regular for morning and evening walks with our 6 month old

Nice water front park and a little playgrounds. If you have a airplane obsessed child this is a great place… Airplanes constantly flying over :) my 4 year old loved climbing the rocks down to the beach.

This is a small park with a great view of the water.
The playground is tiny, but you have a beach to set the kids loose on and they’ll love it. There are a few picnic tables and BBQ grills too. To get down to the actual beach, wear strong shoes as it’s rocky and the path isn’t the best.
We saw a huge firepit and will have to come back later to try that out.
You have to have a pass to be here or have cash to pay for parking.

Camping Review
After traveling and camping for 42-​days across America with my family this the worst campsite we have ever come across. It’s below a flight path! 100 jets blasting over head day and night. Impossible to sleep! Campsitse on top of exact other with garbage ground into the dirt and sharp pebbles. Filthy! Toilet paper floating in a puddle under the only water supply. Valt toilets stink with poor ventilation. Ridiculously over priced worth 50 cents. Friendly useless camp staff. Stay away unless you are from a homeless shelter.

The kids and hubby love coming to this State Park. It’s usually pretty empty (since you have to pay $ 10 to park and there are lots of free waterfront parks within 5 minutes of here…). Tends to be clean. Great views…

We really liked this park! I read the reviews before we went. I was expecting a small trail, those reviews that say the trail is «short» probably didn’t explore further. The beach trail was short, but a pretty walk. We found some beautiful trails near the camping grounds. The trail was steep in places, but not too steep. Not disappointed at all.

This is a small park, perfect for a sunny day when you just want to take a couple hours and spend some time in nature.
The sun was shining beautifully today so I dragged my boyfriend out of work and we took a walk here. You need a Discovery Pass to get in, which is $ 30 for a year and worth it because you can use it for two vehicles and it’s for all state parks in Washington.
You can walk along the beach, and it was low tide when we came which was a lot of fun. I had enjoyed walking along the boulders between the shore and the paved path. We spent some time looking for crabs on the beach — carefully so as not to hurt them! There were gulls and crows hanging out on the beach, and some ducks in the water too.
Lots of benches and tables to sit on. Probably will get pretty crowded in the summer but on this cool winter day there were only a few small families, some joggers and stray people like us out to enjoy the sun. Great place to watch the sun set into the Sound.

I went here only once, I will come back but here’s the details everyone shall know.

It is a small state park.
Easily, the BBQing areas get crowded.
Yes, there is a coastline with ocean, but you’re limited to how far you can go down the path, so it’s short!
I never really camped here, but I will soon.
The coastline area is really really rocky. Uncomfortable if you fall on the rocks while climbing down to the ocean! But the rocks make it fun to find little living things and whatnot. There isn’t much shade so most of the grass is burnt up and scratchy during the high of summer. There is probably more little foresty areas towards the campground. There are bathrooms but since so many people crowd out the place, it’s really dirty. The little food place is never open. Also, some nice things to say are, the view can be really nice looking towards the ocean, great for sunsets and ocean photography ~ It’s also a nice park to stop for bbq lunch, easy to get in and out and enjoy a bit of your day.

Small state park.
There is a play ground, picnic shelters, grills, many tables and benches. Two restroom buildings and a little park house café.
Down by the shore there is a paved trail that only spans about ¼ mile.
There’s a small creek that drains into the sound. When there is not much of a crowd here, the sound is so serene at low tide. (Except for the occasional air plane.)
The view is gorgeous. Cliffs, waves, sailboats… But it doesn’t seem like a «state park» to me because of the small size and the very close residential neighbors.
All in all, it has everything for a great picnic. (Including pesky begging crows.)
I would not be tempted to hike or camp here.

This park is very pretty but they want to close it so early! I know most parks close around dusk but maybe since it is a state park the hours are different. The park seems very small and it becomes questionable if it is worth the entry fee. Steve bought a long term pass when were out on the Olympic Peninsula one time so we did not need to pay to get in. The restrooms seem closed most of the time which is not amusing when you had a large coffee drink before you arrived. One restroom along the beach was closed for the season and the other one which was in a corner of the parking lot at the bottom seemed to have a permanent sign that said the bathrooms were being cleaned. While there is a very nice view from Pugent Sound and it is convenient since it is nestled in the metro area but I am sure there are bigger and prettier state parks that are not far from the city.
