Quality Inn & Suites Event Center

We had originally booked 2 nights at another local motel, but checked out a day early; our room’s temperature stayed uncomfortably warm, too much light was let in from the hallway, and the bed was so uncomfortable that it hurt my back. When we went to the front desk we were offered an empty apology and a thin rollaway bed for me to sleep in.
When we got to the Quality Inn we told the front desk clerk how we ended up there and she was extremely understanding; she checked us in immediately at 11am. The room we were booked in was close to the elevator shaft, and when we asked the noise the clerk immediately moved us to another room further down the hall away from the elevator and even upgraded us to a riverview room for no charge.
The staff was gracious and accommodating beyond what was required, and made us feel extremely valued.

If the place is still the way it was back in the day, you will definatly love staying here! Quiet, comfortable beds, plenty of places close to go experience any adventure!
The place always had some super parties!
One time the whole top floor was rented to a group of FFA people, us front desk clerks at the time couldnt understand why on the cameras we seen people running back and forth in the hall, till we finally caught the scenery– they were chasing a baby piglet up an down the hall, trying to corral it in its crate! Talk about your «Lively» parties!!! Cripes!
Needless to say, it gets pretty crowded when there is special events going on!

The rooms are pretty quiet, you barely hear any noise around you. All in all Its a great place to stay!!!

Decent stay. Staff was friendly. Clean sheets, cool view. Breakfast was hot, yummy and free. Would stay again, if the price came down a little.

We stayed here for a quick night in DSM while home for the holidays. It was so close to downtown DSM and the price was amazing. It was clean, comfortable, and the staff was helpful. Breakfast was much larger than expected.
Funny how not every Quality Inn is created equal, we actually chose the quality inn at the airport based on this experience and it was MUCH different. This one is worth staying at if you need to be downtown Des Moines! We’ll stay again.

Customer service is great! Really helpful and friendly. I am giving 5 stars for that reason. Always answered phone and it was very easy setting up there for a conference we were attending. Thx Lindsee. (havent yet stayed there but will adjust stars soon!)

Great experience. Traveled here with two dogs. Very clean and welcoming staff. Accommodated the dogs and the two of us very well. Breakfast was delicious. Governors lounge was very nice and staff there was excellent.

It was a couple years back when I stayed here. I was coming to town for my job interview and my previous housing arrangement for my time here fell threw so I needed to find a fair priced place to stay at and quick. I looked online and found this place, close downtown, good price, and looked great.
I was not disappointed when I came in. The staff was friendly getting me checked in and I told them I was lucky to find a place on this short notice. The rooms and hotel in general was clean. I ordered Jimmy Johns delivery that night for food and then went to bed, got up and went to my interview.
I would recommend this place if you are looking for a good deal and only plan on sleeping in the hotel and just being out the rest of the time, because I’m not sure what activities they offer here.

Worst hotel ever. Reserved a 3 room suite to stay in after concert for $ 160. Upon entering the room we found condoms and condom wrappers still in the nightstand. As we were leaving to go to the concert we noticed the sink in the kitchen area was filthy, including stuff stuck in the drain. When we returned from the concert and walked into the bathroom, the lightbulb exploded all over the floor. We finally decided to complain and went to the front desk to talk to the rude old lady that was working. Before we could even name all the problems with the room she interupted and was rude. The manager came out and attempted to fix the problem, telling her multiple times that he just needed her to get us into another room quickly. We switched rooms and went to bed. When we got up the next morning we noticed the water stains on the ceiling in both the bathroom and kitchen area. There was half a tile in the bathroom that was broken and completely missing. The hot water in the kitchen sink did not work at all. We let the front desk know as we were checking out and found that, even after that many problems with our SECOND room we would still be paying $ 100. Do not stay in this hotel, no matter how handy it is to walk across the street from Wells Fargo Arena. There are other hotels in the area and we will definitely be staying anywhere other than Quality Inn. What a waste of money for a place that would not be that nice, even if everything worked out correctly

The most amazing shower you’ll ever take. I can’t believe how soft the water is. The buffet is great-​scrambled eggs, sausage, tons of bread choices (even fresh coffee cake– yum), cereal, waffles… The rooms are decent but a but dated. Sadly, they still use throws on the bed; mine had a cigarette burn in it. Ice machines are on odd numbered floors, which is inconvenient. They kept the pool open 2 hours extra for us! I’d you’re going to a convention, it’s only a stones throw away and you can walk (read: no parking fees). Overall, this is a great hotel and its deficiencies (and there are a few) are made up for by its location and breakfast buffet.

Hands down an amazing hotel for the price. Free hot buffet for breakfast, free parking, free wifi, comfy king sized beds, HBO, and very friendly staff.
The restaurant on the second floor (Governors Lodge) is wonderful. The bartender was extremely friendly and shared a lot of great information about the city.
For only passing through town, we had a great time. ESPECIALLY for the price ($ 94 for one night).
The only downside was there was no fan in the bathroom so the room filled with steam very quickly after two showers. The towels were also pretty old (a few stains) and scratchy.
We would absolutely come back again. GREAT place overall.

Though the hotel is old, the suites were very spacious. I had a kitchen with a table and chairs, mini fridge and microwave and a sink! Living room had sofa, two recliners, desk and tv. Bedroom with a king bed was spacious. The breakfast had enough options that accommodated my food allergies.
It was clean. I am used to Las Vegas where there is hair everywhere and everything smells of smoke. No smoke smell and no hair. It is not the most modern place but, clean and spacious. Plus, the front desk staff was very courteous and responsive.
The free wireless and free parking (most downtown hotels charge) was a nice perk.
I would stay there again.

Nothing special, but it was clean and made for a good place to get some sleep. The rooms don’t look like they’ve been remodeled very recently and it’s a pretty bare-​bones kind of hotel, but it’s definitely good if you’re on a budget. Pretty close to the interstate, so it’s an easy hotel to locate if you’re just stopping off to rest for the night. They have a free continental breakfast in the morning, but I had to be at the airport before breakfast started so I’m not sure what it was like.
The one thing that was very nice about this place was that they arranged for a cab to take me to the airport free of charge. Considering that this place is located a few miles away from the airport and since it’s not a particularly large hotel, I was expecting to have to pay for my own transportation to the airport. Thanks Quality Inn!

We stayed at this Quality Inn when we were doing a sport show a block away.
The employees there were nice and helpful. The room was quite large, we had plenty of towels and the free wireless was great (tho’ sometimes not a real strong signal).
We didn’t use the pool, but it look like a nice area. The hotel & room were nice & clean. There was a burn mark on the sink counter but you can’t fix that without replacing the whole counter & I’m sure it was done before there was no smoking inside buildings. There was no smoke smell anywhere in the hotel or in our room.
The restaurant is delightful & cutely decorated with light log walls and a cabin type of feeling. We went for dinner several times and our waitress was Dee, who was quite a character and the nicest lady I have met in a long time. She has been there 32 years, is 82 years old and puts many other waitresses to shame with her energy and friendly nature.

I am really disappointed in the staff and billing practices here. We had 2 rooms reserved, and a few days prior to our arrival, there were 2 random charges on our card, under the name «Ackerman Investments». I had to call my bank, find out that the charges were based in Des Moines, called the hotel, and got it squared away. We were sharing our rooms with some friends who arrived before us, and therefore checked in swiping their own credit cards. A few hours later we arrived, and asked that the rooms be put on our card instead, and swiped our card. We discovered the next day that our friends had NOT had the holds dropped, nor had our initial random charge been dropped. Ackerman Investments was holding roughly $ 1400 from our combined accounts for 2 rooms. Our final bill came to $ 530… yet $ 1400 was being held?! I went to the front desk and again requested the charges to be dropped from our friends’ cards since our card was now on the rooms, and Carol said she would do it, I haven’t asked my friends to check yet and be sure the charges are gone. Meanwhile I checked out 4 days ago and I have a pending $ 200 charge on top of my final bill. I stay in hotels 5 or 6 times a year and have never experienced this sort of confusion with bills.
Additionally, Carol the night manager was incredibly rude to several members of our party. When they asked for extra blankets she challenged why they needed them and refused to give them more than a couple extra. She was observed hanging up on customers on the phone and refusing to answer when they called back.
While we were there, a party was going on down the hall, with half a dozen drunk men banging on doors and obviously smoking inside the room.
The rooms were clean and totally suitable, but the shadiness with my money and the terrible manner of the staff really turned me off. I come to Des Moines once a year on business and I will not stay here again.

My initial impression of this inn was not too good. It is advertised as a non smoking hotel, but upon entering the bathroom, the sink had multple burn marks on it, from a long time ago I guess. My bed had a hole in the bedspread I asked for a new bedspread & was promised they would bring one up, six hours later I again asked for the bedspread & it was delivered within two minutes. I think they had to wait untill someone else checked out. Then they had the bedspread washed.
They do accept pets, pets can have fleas, that thought bothers me.
The place is a family Hotel, kids were everywhere & filled the swimming pool & hot tub.
All that aside the room was large, comfy & well appointed.
I found the bar & dining area also cosy & comfortable, & i liked the décor.
The staff was friendly. so i am mixed on my review.

Nice quiet off street parking, nice rooms, very comfy. The views of downtown are magnificent. The hotel staff are friendly and courteous.
