History

Established in 2010.

Mile High Vienna Stand is the realization of a dream come true for owner Sonny Jarock. While spending summers with his father in Elmwood Park, he would always visit his hometown hot dog stand on the way to a ballgame.

Along with his childhood friend Jeremy Wiilliamson, Sonny brings the authentic taste of Chicago to Denver. What was once an abandoned building is now a bustling hot spot for lunches and dinner in the Baker neighborhood. Watch us make your dogs in our spotless kitchen.

Easy to get in and out of, MHVS has plenty of room for parking in our two lots as well as parking on the street. Our friendly staff is always willing to help you with your order. Stay and enjoy your food here our take it with you in a brown bag.

And after a year of more dreaming, planning and construction, the team opened their second location with the LODO Stand located just one block away from the first base entrance at Coors Field.

Granted it’s the same shop as the one on Santa Fe BUT why is it so much slower? Beats me. Tastes the same, same menu so why? Can’t imagine it on a game day in the summer. You’d get into the park in the 2nd inning. This shop is half as far as the Santa Fe shop to my house but when I go it’s usually to the Santa Fe shop.

If you’re looking for: A true Chicago-​style hot dog, with that snapping Vienna beef, poppy seed bun (!!!), super bright green relish, celery salt, all dem fixings. … this is a good spot for that.
All I tried was the dog and fries, on an excellent Happy Hour Special 3−5pm. It was perfect and cheap. No frills casual joint — Chicago here in the 303. Gonna be bringing these into Coors Field for the 2015 Rockies season.

Did someone posting here visit Mile High VIENNA stand expecting vegetarian options? What a moron! MHVS is here to provide former Chicagoans, and those that appreciate world-​class Vienna Beef products, delicious hot dogs, sausages and beef sandwiches. Looking for tofu? Head to Boulder.
I crave real Chicago dogs and these guys do them right. Further, they are reasonably priced, especially between 3 and 5 when a dog is $ 3.00. Most places charge as though they’re importing their products from France. Mustard’s, Chicago Mike’s, Billy’s, etc. charge premium prices. Also, while Biker Jim’s has its place if you want to burn 10 bucks on a venison-​crusted owl frank, MHVS offers straightforward, real Chicago fare. I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago and I’ve eaten at more hot dog joints than I could count. MHVS is right up there with the Chicago stands.
My next, and final comment, is going to get me in some trouble but, here goes. Many kids growing up, even in Chicago, eat hot dogs with only ketchup. Over the years, putting ketchup on a Chicago hot dog has become akin to drowning puppies. Nonetheless, my Chicago dog is topped with ketchup, onions, neon sweet relish, tomatoes and pickle spears, no celery salt or peppers. Please, no hate posts! I’m certainly not as bad as the vegetarian moron.

For what they are this place is great. The interiors could use some work but they are an in and out hot dog shop and they do that well. The Chicago dog is finger lickin good. The one with beef and auju was not so great, to sloppy. The girls working were awesome, very friendly and efficient. I’ll go back!

My first time at mile high Vienna, good food polite fast service and clean restaurant. Got a great deal on the double meat hot dog and fries and soda for seven dollars, only reason why I did not get his place five stars, is because I was kind of confused on the music they’re playing. They’re playing Mexican music in a hotdog stand. No I’m saying there’s nothing wrong with Mexican music, but maybe feel like I was in a Taqueria. Thank god for Biker Jim’s!

MHVS is what it is… a basic, simple hot dog and Italian beef joint. Cheap, tasty, quick. This is absolutely not one of the newer upscale dog joints in town like Billy’s. For me, that’s a good thing. Sometimes I just want a good, affordable old-​school Chicago dog, and MHVS has ‘em.
They seem to nail all the basics– The requisite Chicago Dog bun, dog & toppings are all well-​chosen and authentic, the fries are perfectly prepared and crispy, and they don’t subject you to those annoying ketchup packets (they have the ketchup pump and dipping cups). Additionally, while I’m no connoisseur, I found their Italian beefs quite good with lean, juicy beef, the bun I remember from places in the motherland, and the zing from some seriously tasty giardiniera. Nothing fancy for drinks either, MHVS has a good old reliable fountain machine, which works for me.
No complaints, MHVS is solid.

Kudos to Mile High for the Chicago dogs, but I’ve been gravitating to some other great alternatives on their menu. First of all, I love their giardiniera and I have it slathered on virtually everything they serve. I found that a giardiniera hot dog with its spicy kick is so much more satisfying for me than the Chicago dog. I would kill to have that giardiniera on a cheeseburger (hint, hint) Second, they serve the best basket of french fries in town, always crispy and and hot. Definitely the best. Third, there’s a new special pork chop sandwich which is the bomb. It’s a thin-​slice chop with sauteed onions served Fred Flintstone style i.e., with the bone sticking out of it. It’s a little awkward biting into it but it’s delicious (especially with the giardiniera).

Oh My God. I am from Chicago and one thing I hate is places that say they have «Chicago Style Dogs» and they taste like crap.

Came here after a day of drinking and had a hotdog, it was delicious, and then came back 20 minutes later for another dog and fries. Oh did it energize me!
Staff was super friendly, to bad they don’t have the pics of Chicago people that stop by. So nice to travel and get a real Chicago dog.

I’ll start by saying I’m from Chicago and I’ve been to the best: Portillos, Maxwell Street, Gold Coast… you name it! Remember the Wendy’s commercial «Where’s the beef?». That’s how I felt about my hotdog. It was seriously the smallest wiener I’ve ever seen in my life! And please lay off the celery salt… way too salty.
I came back another time for Italian beef. Again, I took one bite and couldn’t believe how salty it was! I think it was the giardiniera but I couldn’t quite figure it out. I know they use the gonnella bun but something was off with it. Finally, it’s a sandwich, you’re supposed to be able to pick it up and eat it. Mine was like a soup… I needed a fork! It all goes back to the bun.
This is a nice try for Chicago food but comes up quite short in my book!

Nom Nom, we were craving Italian Beef sandwiches and drove all the way downtown (right before a Rockies Game!!) and walked 6 blocks (uphill both ways) to try this place.
Service was friendly and genuine. The guy behind the counter actually gave a crap what The Boy was trying to order… really listening to him, as I, in my bossy motherly way, ordered over/​for him. Everyone there was attentive and nice and doing their job.
Food came out hot, fast, and tasty. Yummy cheese sauce on the fries. The sammies were huge and delicious. My bun was a tiny bit over-​steamed in a couple of places but, soak it in the juice and it’s all going to be fine. Giardinara was ample and they even threw us a little extra, gratis.
Cleanest restroom in the ballpark area, I’ll betcha a dollar. The place isn’t fancy but it hits the spot.

In my continuing quest to relive Chicago right here in Denver, I find myself disappointed with the italian beef options in this city. And that’s not surprising, really, since I’ve never actually had a great italian beef outside Chicagoland. But I thought that this place would change things for me. Alas, it was not to be. The beef itself was actually quite dry and tough. The jus, extremely bland. I ordered it wet but still the Gonella roll was dry. This place has nothing on real italian beef, and dare I say it, nothing on my mom’s homemade beef.

I am from Chicago. I grew up there and lived there after college for a few years. This is the closest thing I have been able to find to a real Chicago dog and Italian Beef.
I by close I mean its better than some places I have had in Chicago. Its not the best, but its damn good! The Chicago dog is the traditional Vienna Beef dog with all the proper fixins (including that awesome nuclear green relish). NO KETCHUP! The Italian beef is super meaty and juicy. yeah the bun is gonna get soaked and thats the best part. If my hands arent messy after one then it wasnt good.
The setup is pretty similar to most hot dog stands you would find in Chicago. Vienna Beef advertisements, simple but comfortable seating, and sports memorabilia. The service is very friendly and they are even open late. so its a great post bar snack spot.

As many places around Denver that claim to serve a real Chicago Hotdog. Some people just serve a normal hot dog with the «right» fixings, some places get it in the general area, and some places knock it out of the park. I would put Mile High Vienna somewhere between the latter two. It’s a great dog and it’s even better because you can grab it on the way to your ballgame.
They have many different varieties of hot dogs and you can even put Ketchup on your hot dogs in spite of the Chicago Dog purists. A dog, fries and a drink (all of which can be taken to-​go into Coors Field) will cost $ 5 and will be a damn sight better than any concession hot dog once you get to the ballgame. The happy hour deal is unbeatable too.
I highly recommend going there the next time you’re in LoDo.
