Limón

Very quiet when I was there, but it was Tuesday — during Happy Hour. My $ 5.00 Margarita hit the spot! Wasn’t crazy about the raw salmon fish taco, but the guacamole and chips were excellent.

This place always seems empty. We live near it and have only gone once with a groupon and still felt a bit overcharged. I love the variety in Spanish/​Hispanic foods by region but those are some expensive tapas!
They have a deal on a bottle of wine. I think it’s Wednesday’s

You know the diet tip, give yourself 15 minutes after eating to feel full before you eat more? Well that just doesn’t apply for tapas but it should. My parents had bought a Travelzoo deal that they weren’t able to use when they were in town so we were the lucky recipients of said deal. We invited my cousin and her family to come try Limon out with us.
Pretty much everything on the menu sounded delicious so the ordering went more along the lines of what DON’T we want to try. Which means that we ordered a lot of food. So much food that we ended up walking out being stuffed beyond comfort.
Among the items we sampled:
1. Tamales — my favorite of the night. They had a really good red sauce on them and were the perfect consistency
2. Calamari — the sweet coconut with the spicy chili was perfect
3. The potatoes with the spanish sausage — this was a table favorite
4. Ham and potato croquettes — delicious
5. Empanadas — these were a stinker. Not seasoned well and dough that was erring on the side of not totally cooked.
6. Pasole — Meh. The smoky flavor was overpowering and the chicken stock was a bit on the weak side
7. Argentinian biscuits — the meat options were quite tasty and we got a sampling of beef, chicken and veggie. The veggie was not good and tasted off.
8. Crispy chili relleno — this was the last item we ate and probably would have tasted much better if we weren’t already so full. I like my rellenos packed with cheese and that was not this
The service was great and they were accommodating for a two year old as well.

The food is bland, boring, and over all a blah. It wasn’t bad, just not worth $ 50. We had the empanadas, which were decent. We had the street tacos and steak and fries… zzzzzzzz! Nothing special. If I didn’t have a Groupon I would have been borderline angry.

Surprised that the entire inside of the restaurant was empty on a Wednesday at 6 pm. We sat on the patio with 2 other tables. Others showed up after 7.
Ordered El Diablo and Mojito el Piña both tasty and refreshing but a little expensive at $ 10 each. Also tried the red and white sangrias at $ 7 each. Both good and flavorful. White was peachy, red was a little spicy but sweet. Didn’t see happy hour mentioned anywhere.
Started with ceviche and guac.
Guac: not fresh. Thin film of brown on top. Good ingredients but not the best flavor.
Ceviche: great combo of veggies and flavoring but missing any other fish besides shrimp. Served with good tortilla chips.
Entrée shared crispy rellenos.
One relleno on a plate with Spanish rice that was meh. And a salty tangy slaw. Flavors of the relleno were Excellent!
That would have been enough food for me (shared with husband) but he was still hungry.
So we ordered beef empanadas as well. Same slaw and rice on the side with 3 e’s. A little greasy but very good. Ask for more of the green sauce.
Overall is a nice change of pace and good place to try several South American flavors in one sitting.

Very accommodating to my food allergies! The food was good, but the portions were on the small side. Limon wasn’t very crowded. We had the dining room to ourselves and there were a few folks outside. We were kind of surprised it wasn’t busier as there was nothing wrong with our dining experience (except maybe price). I liked the restaurant more than my date! Haha.

Stopped in on an amazon local deal ($ 22 for $ 40). (always tip on the original bill, folks!)
Service: 5/​5, friendly, patient, helpful, and attentive.
Cleanliness: 5, no sticky tables or grotty bathrooms here!
Atmosphere: 4 but empty on a Saturday night. It looks like the last one on that busy strip of 17^th, which probably hurts business. Maybe they could draw more of a crowd if they offered a craft beer sampler or specials on a bottle of wine. I didn’t try any of their fancy cocktails (full bar! Extensive tequila selection!) this time, but the list looked solid.
We ordered iced tea, house guacamole and chips, shrimp ceviche, pork tacos, and the crème brulée, all for $ 40. It was all fresh and tasted okay. Honestly, I don’t know if I’m spoiled in the bay, but the food, especially the guacamole and pork, could’ve used a little more kick. Not necessarily heat, but flavor in general. Then again, I hear there are people in some places (cough Ohio) that love bland food…
I understand that tapas = full price for half plates, but those half plates should be your pride and joy, not mediocre filler — use some spices, marinades, citrus and maybe even burn it a little! If we hadn’t had a deal, it would have felt like a ripoff.
I don’t know what people think this place is doing wrong to be so empty. Come out and support them! And Limon, please add some flavor and drink specials. Look at the competition next door.

Well a nice enough place I’ve driven by it a few time and was all ways interested in coming in. Decided to get together this new years eve with four or my good friends and girlfriend.
From the time we walked into the restraunt we were told that we only have an hour and a half to eat and be on our way. (note there was a reservation made)
One of my friends made a comment to out waitress. She seemed to justify why it was ok that we were told that.
Apparently the guy at the door was/​is the owner. Odd to be told that by the owner. Felt rather unwelcome from the time we walked in.
Let’s hope the food is better than the service so far…
Food was good I would come back for the food. However I won’t be back due to the staff handling of customers.

We all like to go out to eat, no? Try new places, have new experiences. Six of us went to Limon for dinner. We shared 8 entrees and honestly thought that everything we ordered except the chili rellano, which was way too spicy, was good. Nothing spectacular but again, good. And, the service we received was excellent and it was reflected in the generous tip.
What is not good and why none of us would ever return or recommend Limon, is that fact that they waaaay overcharge for meager portions of alleged «tapas» style plates. A few tiny plates and a big, fat bill, do not equal a pleasant dining experience.

Limón is a «tapas» style restaurant…
It was my second time there, once for lunch and this time for dinner.
The décor is thoughtful, the ambience is nice, the menu is broad and the food presentation is good…
That said, I felt the service was adequate (our server was eating her dinner in plain sight at the bar) and the dishes were overpriced (we shared 4 dishes, totaling $ 46, and the portions were quite small). The Med in Boulder is a good example of a similar calibre restaurant that is priced more appropriately.
It’s not bad, but it’s not a good value and I would definitely not recommend it.

Got a Groupon for this place and I am SO glad I did so. It was an amazing experience with delicious food. Definitely deserves more than three stars.
We started with a couple of beers (the craft draft selection wasn’t what I’m used to at most CO restaurants) which were reasonably priced considering they weren’t on happy hour.
The menu is separated by country of origin: Central America, South American, and the Caribbean. The food is Tapa style (READ: smaller plates that restaurants like to charge as full plates because of the fancy name haha) so we ordered four dishes.
First off were the Potato and Ham Croquettes… we felt like the potatoes needed additional seasonings because they tasted slightly bland. I don’t recommend them.
Next, we ordered the Black Bean and Corn Empanadas which were great! I specifically enjoyed the jalepeno crema that was used to top them (next time I would order a small side of that sauce to dip them in!)
After, we got the Potatoes Portaviejo which were also delicious. They included a chorizo-​tasting sausage, potatoes, and red peppers. The sauce that the dish was bathed in (likely salty fatty residual deliciousness from the sausage) was what tied everything together.
Last, we got the Shepard Tacos. These were SO GOOD. Seriously, I’m still fantasizing about them a little over a week later. They came with a delicious pico that really put the icing on the cake

Service: ⁵⁄₅ (kudos– he mentioned he was a new server and he did an incredible job!)
Ambience: ⁵⁄₅ (great date night spot)
Price: ⁴⁄₅ (A slight $ 1 – 2 decrease per plate would really do the restaurant well. Other than that, the Groupon/​happy hour pricing is a great way to go!)

.. Don’t expect good timely service at this restaurant. Food is ok, but a little bit over priced.

This place has some pretty good food and drinks. My only complaint is that the food is way overpriced. That being said there are always online deals from Groupon and others that makes it easier to justify dining here. I will continue to occasionally dine here as long as I can get the deals.

I definitely think it is worth more than 3 stars.
Ambience — A restaurant with a quiet intimate setting, great for dates or small groups. My group of 10 went there and I was thinking, «Crap, we are going to ruin the dates around us with our noise.» The restaurant also had to call in extra help to serve our large group.
Food — My group ordered almost everything on the menu. Two dishes that stuck out were the meatballs and calamari. Please order the meatballs. I think I had three servings of them just because it was delicious. The sauce covering the meatballs was made to perfection and the meatballs was a little crispy on the outside as I think it was slightly baked. The calamari was also amazing. Even though the servings was small for the price, I thought that the taste compensated for it. The steak fries was meh, nothing good about it.
Dessert — I was already bloated after all the tapas, but everyone has an extra tummy for dessert. I think I have two stomachs for dessert. We had the cheesecake and the margarita sorbet. I would not recommend the cheesecake because it was not any special compared to the margarita sorbet. I have never had that AMAZING sorbet. I could taste the margarita taste in it and the sorbet was extremely soft that it melted immediately inside my mouth. I would go back for their margarita sorbet. Yummy !

Had a TravelZoo coupon with a fixed price AND fixed meal. The food was good and contrary to what the waitress said and other reviews, the portions were generous for tapas! We didn’t order extra or leave hungry.
I would go back just for dessert! I had the crème brûlée trio (paid extra to the deal but totally worth it) and my boyfriend had the spicy chocolate ice cream. The wine menu options seemed okay but the one we got was a really good estate and paired with our food exceptionally well. Salad was meh, soup was yum. Entrees had great flavor. Overall, food was really good and we would return even at full price as it is comparable to other trendy places.
Finally though, our waitress seemed annoyed the whole night. I know we were there on a Tuesday night (totally dead and there was a friend’s baby there) but we tried to chat but she obviously just wanted to get out of there. Even though she was cheery and smiling, it was so very fake. Oh! And parking is easy enough; it’s downtown street parking but no meters and more (competing) restaurants are moving in so I think the tapas style is perfect for the area so you can hop around and try things. Side streets could use more lighting though but overall I felt safe after 9pm.

«Latin American restaurant? Well you can’t fool real Latinos! Or even if you are familiar with how Latin American foods are supposed to taste like. It was severely overpriced for tiny portions. We had the shrimp ceviche, lomo saltado, and the chipotle meatballs. They were all ok, but certainly not authentic nor worth the price. I don’t know if it was just that night’s blunder, but the pisco sour was AWFUL. Couldn’t even finish it; it tasted like laundry water.
Service was pretty good, there was only one girl serving all the tables.
Overall, atmosphere was ok, (I wish they had played Latin music instead of weird indie/​hard rock), food was not bad but certainly not worth the bill, and service was pretty good. I’d recommend this place if you’re looking for someplace new to eat and are not familiar with good/​authentic Latin American food, but other than that I’d probably go elsewhere for Latin American food.

Was excited by the menu posted outside and the price seemed right… until the waitress mentioned they were a tapas restaurant. Food and atmosphere are ok. Prices are outrageous!
$ 12 for 4 incredibly overboiled and super tough shrimp — recommended by the waitress!
$ 8 for 3 tiny tacos (just ok, the «roasted» garlic was very crunchy and raw)
$ 8 for 3 decent meatballs (but it is hard to mess up a meatball)
We started off with a beer and these three plates. A few meager bites later, we are out $ 42 and out the door. If we had both had a real dinner there, I imagine the bill would have been 3x that.
I’m up for laying down $ 60 on a meal, when the food is incredible, imaginative and/​or just straight up delicious. Obviously, Limon missed the mark on the latter but it totally fine sticking you with the former.
TL;DR: $$$$$$, Gives tapas a bad name

I had a really nice dinner with my friend Jennyfer we shared 3 different plates and a dessert, I was completely full. I highly recommend the Crispy Chile Relleno black beans, raisins, corn, cotija cheese -$ 10. Also, the Wok Fried Beef (LOMO SALTADO) aji Amarillo, onions, tomatoes, house fries, garlic rice-​$ 14, was really filling. The cuts of beef though it took a while to come out were super tender and the presentation made me say Yippy!
Though it wasn’t packed on our visit the space isn’t extremely large so reservations are suggested. Our bill was less then $ 60 for 3 different plates, dessert, and two house glasses of wine. Watch for periodical Groupons as well for large savings (I used one for this visit), as it makes the bites more affordable!
So glad I finally got to check it out… and they have gluten free/​vegetarian!

Were greeted, checked in, and seated right away. Our server, Summer, was very friendly, efficient and fast. I liked the cozy décor and the place was very vibrant.
We had a Groupon and gave it to her right away and she immediately suggested what wines they had. We chose a red and white wine for our meal.
This restaurant serves small plates (tapas). Chose one Central America dish-​Pork Picadillo Tamale, $ 10, one South American dish-​Skirt Steak & Chimichurri, $ 14 and one Caribbean dish-​Slow-​Roasted Shredded Beef (Ropa Vieja), $ 13.
All of them were quite tasty, especially the Skirt Steak & Chimichurri, which was a really good portion.
We ended the meal with the Banana Tres Leches with one Americano coffee and a double expresso. It was very tasty.
Even though we had a great experience, I would only come here for Happy Hour or if I had a Living Social or Groupon deal. The prices were a little expensive without a coupon.

I went in with a travelzoo coupon; actually told them up front about it. He came to our table and complained that we reserved a table on opentable and that we had bought the travelzoo coupon together.
Listen, if you don’t want to pay a per head fee to open table, don’t use it; and especially don’t complain about it to your patrons. I also don’t want to hear you complaining about how dead your restaurant is during the week and the coupon /​opentable should be used on the weekend. Again, you should had made a stipulation for that in the coupon.
Also, don’t stare at my gf and try to look at both of your patrons in the eye.
Slow service, mediocre tapas, and a complaining gm who served us made for a bitter night out.
No wonder you need a coupon to fill the tables.
Ridiculousness

This was our first visit for dinner using a $ 35 Travel Zoo coupon for 4 small plates and 2 desserts. They were located near Parallel Seventeen and down the block from D Bar. They share the kitchen with the Next Door Lounge.
I had made reservations through Open Table for 100 points. We were the only ones there. Maybe because the Broncos were playing in the AFC Divisional Playoff. The Next Door Lounge was packed and we could hear the people cheering for the Broncos through the walls.
We were greeted right away and seated at a small table. The restaurant had really nice décor, but the light was dim and it was difficult to see the menu. We ordered 4 small plates:
The Spinach Salad ($ 8) had baby spinach, halved red red grapes and candied walnuts tossed in a jalapeño buttermilk dressing. The dressing had a kick to it.
The Coconut and Chile Calamari ($ 10) came out about a minute later. I hadn’t even dished out the salad and wanted to eat the calamari while it was still hot. The breading was a light corn dust, not too heavy. There were large pieces of tentacles and rings of calamari served with a lime aioli. This was one of the best fried calamari I’ve had in along time.
We both ordered the Skirt Steak & Chimichurri ($ 14 each). The meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked to medium rare. It was skirt steak, so it was a little chewy and tough but that’s to be expected for that cut of meat. The chimichurri was red. I prefer the green version. The fries had the skin on them. They were served on top of the steak on a small plate. We had to eat the fries before we could cut the meat with a steak knife.
We then ordered dessert. My husband ordered the Three Pots of Crème Brulee ($ 7). They came in Vanilla Bean, Mocha, and Coconut. He actually liked the Mocha the best because it was different. He couldn’t really taste the difference between the vanilla and coconut.
I ordered the Yucatan Flan ($ 7). It was dense and creamy. The tequila infused pineapple slices and piece of peanut brittle was a nice contrast to the flan.
They have a Happy Hour from 4−6pm with limited tapas. Too bad the Calamari isn’t on the Happy Hour menu. We probably won’t be back without another coupon.

I love tapas. And I basically love food. So combine little plates of food (which really means lots and lots of variety) make me a happy girl.
The interior of Limon is very nice. Dark. Wood. Deep colors. I totally get the style and I like it. But I didn’t go to dinner to sit and admire the furnishings.
I like Limon. The food is pretty good but the prices are a little high for what you get. We ended up getting about 8 – 9 dishes including dessert. I would say most of them were well executed and successful as far as flavor goes. There was really only a couple that we didn’t care for and one of those was recommended by our waiter. The other was supposedly a Peruvian favorite. The Lomosaltado had great elements of flavor. but the meat didn’t impress me.
I do believe in 3’s though. So I do get slightly miffed when a plate comes out with 2 items. Maybe make them smaller so you can adhere to the balance of odd numbers rule or something. Plus it made the 3 of us eating weird because someone always gets more. 3 small empanadas would have been better than 2 medium sized ones. Just say’n.
Also. apparently the Pisco sour didn’t have enough zing. And this is straight from a Peruvian’s mouth. So maybe a little more brandy?
