Fractured Prune

For what they do, it’s not bad but it is very overpriced. The donuts are pretty good but it’s not worth the price.

Considering the positive reviews for this place, something must have changed.
At first, I was the only person in the shop. It’s small, and definitely geared to in and out traffic. Almost all of the seating is tall stools, at bars, and there are only a few. No problem with that. While I was there, several people did come through, and the girl behind the counter was too busy to talk.
What I did have a problem with was general upkeep. The restroom was dirty, and there were no paper towels to dry my hands. The plexiglass enclosures, that separate toppings from the public, had been wiped down, but with a dirty cloth. They were streaked where the dirty water had dried, and were difficult to see through. The hopper, holding batter for frying, was caked with dried batter. Underneath the fry station was also bad. Maybe the fryer leaks, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, but they might put something underneath, so that the grease doesnt just lie on the counter.
I did purchase a couple of donuts. (There’s a five dollar minimum to use a debit or credit card, which is also not a problem, but you should know.) They are hot and gooey, so I went for napkins. Not one.
Bottom line: If you like hot gooey donuts, you’ll probably really enjoy these. Just understand that the cleanliness of the place might be an issue.
Suggestion: If the shop is so busy that a single person cant work the register, cook the donuts, and keep the place clean, there should be more than one person working.

Tonight was the first time I’ve been here. We showed up 30 minutes before closing but the employee was nice and made a recommendation. I didn’t know anything about this place and since it was late, I expected donuts that were likely made last night. Our donuts were freshly made right in front of us and my kids liked watching the man put the glaze and sprinkles on. The donuts were fresh and hot. Not overly sweet. We’ll be back.

So let me preface this by saying that I’m not typically a huge donut fan. That being said I do LOVE cake donuts and Fractured Prune has some of the best I’ve ever had. I’ve gone in a few times now and have to say the staff is always friendly. I’ve had the Key Lime Pie, the French Toast and the Coffee Cake (with Honey glaze instead of Mocha since I’m sensitive to caffeine) and have loved them all and how they come out hot and fresh.

YAY. We loved going to the Fractured Prune when we lived in Baltimore. Voodoo is cool and all, but there’s nothing like the hot, glaze-​y, cake-​y fresh, made-​to-​order goodness that this quirky shop has to offer.
Just one complaint: Put the lemonade donut on the menu, please!

My boyfriend and I are suckers for the fractured prune for dessert. Tonight we went in I got the carnival and he got the French toast. I honestly thing it’s the most tasty food I’ve ever had in my mouth.

Were greeted by the incredibly friendly Jake. he quickly explained the process and directed us to the board where they had their signature donuts. After some quick deliberation we landed on the bacon bomb (yes bacon on a donut) the blueberry, strawberry shortcake, and the OC (Jake told us it was their best seller).
From there Jake pit the donuts in right in front of us and we were able to watch them cook.
These were easily the best cake donuts I have ever had. They melted right in your mouth and there is just nothing better than a fresh hot donut, and these folks do it better than anyone else.
Just make sure to keep in mind that they have a $ 5 minimum for credit cards otherwise you’ll want to bring cash if your ordering just 2 donuts.
Very likely to return.

I live close to a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop and their «Hot Now» sign is always on, but it does not necessary mean their doughnuts are fresh (seriously, turn the sign off). However, Fractured Prune is made-​to-​order, fresh goodness. Their doughnuts, which are cake doughnuts, comes out piping hot and you have the ability to top it anyway you like.
Not sure what you want or like? Fractured Prune has a specialty doughnut menu with the best pairing of toppings. I ordered half a dozen of these specialty doughnuts and they are mouthwatering good. Specifically, I ordered the black forest, blueberry hill, chocolate covered strawberry, cookie & cream, strawberry shortcake, and the s’more doughnut. There’s a generous amount of mini chocolate chips on all the doughnuts that requires it so definitely be careful eating it because it can get a little messy.
Price-​wise this place is a little on the more pricey side, but well worth it. Doughnuts are sweet, but not too sweet; just right.

Got a dozen of their favorites to share with friends and everyone enjoyed them. It was fun watching them being made and going through the topping process. The only bad thing was that I was there on a Saturday and I felt bad for the girl behind the counter because she was the only one working… on a Saturday!
I am not sure about this, but I also think they only do a vanilla cake donut as the base. I didn’t notice any chocolate batter around. Either way– the vanilla cake donut was awesome, and everyone was happy.

Slightly disappointed that these were just fried cake doughnuts, but the convenience of being able to select your own toppings was nice. They also make them fresh so they are warm when you get them.
Service was quick and gal behind the register was attentive and explained the process of selection so kudos on good customer service.

Hands down THE BEST SPECIALTY DONUT EVER!
I love traditional glazed, just keep it simple; but I recently had the joy of trying the key lime pie donut. That donut was warm, like a fresh baked warm pastry, I’m pretty sure donuts should always be served warm, the way it melts in your mouth oh man!!. Plus the flavor, sweet, so perfectly sweet you savor each bite longer then needed. Try them … they are the game changer of the donut business.

I like the idea and donuts are good. The gist is; pick out your glazes and toppings and the donut is fried to order and then topped. This all happens pretty quick and you get a custom hot donut.
I did feel the donuts were overly oily (the oil temp was probably not hot enough) and I would like a selection of different donut flavors, maybe a chocolate one.
This is a great place for kids. The get to choose and watch the process. Pretty cool.

I’m a huge fan of cake donuts so I might be a little biased. My friend and I walked in and they started making the donuts when the door opened. The freshest cake donuts I’ve ever had! After staring at the menu for a few minutes, we decided to try some of the signature donuts they had on the board instead of making our own. We had the OC Sand, Cookies and Cream, Blackberry Cobbler, and my favorite of the bunch the Carnival. The combinations you could make with the different toppings and icings seemed endless! I have to say though I like my donuts sweet and I think the fruity icings are a little too tart for my taste, they could be your favorite though if you want an intense fruit flavor!
Hard to beat the texture of a hot fresh cake donut with sprinkles! The price seems about right and the ordering process is easy since you just fill out a card with what you want.

Not for me.
I’m a yeast-​lover so I wasn’t thrilled to find out that these donuts are all fried cake donuts (think funnel cake) and not risen fluffy bready tasty round things. They’re also quite oily which didn’t do my stomach right. As for the glazes, they’re a bit saccharine and they just smell and taste synthetic. Kind of like eating jolly ranchers.
That said, I love the origin of their name, the donuts are fried consistently on the spot so you get ‘em piping hot, and I love the ordering procedure. The shop is clean and bright. Service friendly and efficient.
But these, to me, are not donuts. I’m still a Glazed & Confuzed gal, it would seem.

Eating my donuts now. SO Good! Love that the doughnuts come out hot and are made to order. They do only serve cake donuts — which is fine by me! These cake donuts aren’t as dense as some others, very fluffy. I went with co-​workers and tried bites of the French Toast, Key Lime, Green with Envy, Dulce de Leche, and Bacon Bomb. All were delicious — though the Key Lime was my favorite — subtle lime flavor, not too over powering. Absolutely awesome. I also made my own with caramel glaze, mini chocolate chips and sea salt. Everything I dreamed of.
Service was great as well, friendly, fast and genuine.
Will be back!

Friendly quick service. Fun idea. Delicious tasting donut. Very sweet. Great flavor options. Fair price point.
My main complaint is that the donut is pretty greasy. I really enjoyed it, don’t get me wrong, I am just not used to my donuts being as greasy.

Another donut establishment in Denver, there seems to be more and more every time I look. Fractured Prune opened not too long ago on Colorado Blvd. and it’s just a hop, skip and jump from home so I knew I would eventually get to try it.
Fractured Prune has a completely different vibe than most donut shops, there is no display case with pre-​made donuts or $ 5 specialty donuts; there is a wall menu, a piece of paper and a pen. Choose between an already thought of donut combination or create your own (glaze & topping), mark the piece of paper with the quantity desired and give it to your donut maker, bam! The donut maker (my own term) then takes plain cake donuts fresh from the fryer and starts making your donut by dipping each one in a glaze and then a topping or multiple toppings if you so desire. The donut is then served to you warm, you cash out and you’re done. It’s a fun assembly line process that makes picking up a donut a little more interactive than just pointing at a donut behind the glass.
The cake donut base is delicious and tastes completely different when eaten warm vs. room temperature or cold. Trust me, eat them while their hot! The glazes and toppings can be hit or miss for me. I found the chocolate glaze and the coffee glaze to be indistinguishable, I only knew it was chocolate because that’s what I ordered but the flavors were muted at best. When I want chocolate, blueberry or a strawberry glaze I really want to taste that flavor, I want it to pack a punch. Overall the donuts are quite tasty and I will easily become a return visitor.
Fractured Prune makes a delicious cake donut and the only advice I can offer them is to turn up the volume up on the glazes and make them memorable.

I do nut forget to get dessert. Love the concept! This is the first place I’ve been to that serves donuts made to order! Plus they open past 2 pm! I actually came here as a second choice option after Glazed and Confused (which I didn’t know closed @2 PM).
The concept here is like Which Wich sandwiches where you first go up to a little kiosk island where there are slips on which you select your choices with a pen. There’s a menu on the wall as well but ultimately you choose your donuts with the slip. They have flavor options that they created (ex: caramel, mint chocolate, blueberry hill, key lime, smores, Etc) or you can create your own with different glaze and topping options. The donut is fried when you order it and is then dipped into a glaze and topped with whatever topping (nuts, sprinkles, powdered sugar, Etc). I got a blueberry hill donut (comes with powdered sugar) & a key lime donut (topped with fine graham cracker powder). You can watch them fry it and decorate it in front of your eyes.
There aren’t tables inside to eat at but there are stools with a high bar area. Two donuts cost me $ 3 something which I thought was great!
The donuts are a tad heavier than the raised type (like other reviewers mention) but the hot warm and sweet donut is still undeniably yummy! I preferred the blueberry over the lime. The lime wasn’t acidic nor tart enough for me. It was more sweet than I would have liked. I’d definitely come back to try their other flavors.

I live fairly close to this place, and will ALWAYS try a new doughnut place, as Homer Simpson is my spirit animal when it comes to gluttony.
The girls working were super sweet and friendly. There are long glass cases where you can see all the toppings and glazes. It’s like the the cold stone of donut shops. Being able to see the toppings was both good and bad. There were tiny little pieces of yuckness residue from dipping the other toppings like choc chips floating in the glazes and glazes gloving up the sugar. I guess someone with allergies could never eat here.
The awesome was that they make the donuts right in front of your face when you are about to eat them. They come out literally smoking hot. I do wish they had other choices besides cake, I am a glazed raised girl.
The prices are just what they should be, around 1.50 a donut. I got the mocha glaze with sea salt and choc chips. Yowza. It was super yummy, but I could not taste the sea salt. I think she forgot.
Worth a stop, especially if cake donuts are your thing. Really fun concept.

Driving on Colorado Blvd to work, noticed the purple sign.
One word: Amazing.
Brought a dozen to work, they were gone in five minutes. Super friendly staff, was interesting to be able to make my own combination of donuts. It’s like the Chipotle of donuts. Gonna grab a box after work to bring home.
