History

Established in 1999.

Owners, Rodger and Lisa Garcia opened the first Bang Salon location in the Washington Park neighborhood in September of 1999. The second location in Park Hill opened it’s doors in August of 2006 and Little b’s, the most recent addition in September of 2008.

With its’ highly educated stylists and commitment to customer service, Bang Salon quickly became known as the premier, upscale Denver salon. Bang Salon has won the highly coveted award of 5280’s reader’s choice“Top Salon” in the «Top of the Town» several times. Bang has been featured in Modern Salon Magazine, Salon of the Month and in Salon Today’s Décor Portfolio. Bang has been rated in City Search’s top five salon’s in Denver three years in a row and also listed as one of Colorado’s top 40 family owned businesses in Colorado Biz Magazine. Dan has always been so pleasant to work with, which is why I was so confused with the last time I went to him. I was his last appointment that holiday, so granted I am in the industry, I know that was already my first mistake. He asked me how often I washed my hair, and I was so busy with Labor Day that I had left a little bit (not globs) of a coconut oil treatment in my hair because I have severe eczema and it protects my scalp a little bit (I thought he understood). He was pretty upset and I was apologetic and felt really bad and said it wouldn’t happen again (and tipped him extra at the end for it). He asked me what I wanted done and I said what he usually does (forgetting to mention I like my bangs trimmed) He didn’t say a word during my haircut (which is fine, we usually don’t converse much) and at the end I asked him if he could finish my bangs and at that point he seemed flat out angry. I honestly thought he was having an off day. It’s a pity, because I have referred at least 5 people to him and Bang salon. At least the front desk was still nice. Dan, you are good at your trade, but off to find another hair dresser that doesn’t treat people so disrespectful for something I truly was apologetic for.

I was called and invited in to have my hair cut and colored by a junior stylist. Typically, this service is free. I was in contact with said stylist through texting and was told she wanted to do a cut and color. The color was ok, and the cut was great. There’s a lot of care and artistry that this salon takes in cutting hair, and with my short hair it’s hard to find someone who knows what they’re doing. It looks nice. Not fabulous, but nice. The color wasn’t what I initially wanted, but rather a color that the stylist and I agreed on in a middle ground — a reddish brown from my damaged brown hair. I didn’t realize that I would be charged to have my hair colored. This is either the fault of the receptionist or the stylist, but I feel as though I was jipped or manipulated — I am not in a position to pay to get my hair done, thus why I put my name on a list to be called in for a free cut. When she mentioned color too, I was excited. But I wasn’t informed I’d have to pay a dime until the end of the 3 hours. I think it’s unfair to not mention this to hair models. I’m very disappointed. The receptionist was rude too, I didn’t have a single good vibe from her.

A few days ago I got a very impulsive desire to chop all my hair off. I have a hairstylist that I love for my color at a different salon but was wanting to try someone new for the cut. Bang is near my house so I gave them a call. They squeezed me in with STEPHANIE that day. When I walked in, I was beyond impressed with the décor of the salon. But more than that– the immediate service I received. I was greeted by the nicest man and given a glass of wine. When I met with Stephanie, she took the time to understand exactly what I wanted– she gave me her advice on what would look good with my fave shape which I really appreciated. She cut off 6 inches. The shortest I have ever had my hair… And I LOVE it. Afterwards, she took the time to show me some easy styling tips and showed me some products that would be helpful (not in any way pushy). While I have a stylist for my color… I will most definitely be returning to Stephanie for my cut. I couldn’t be more pleased. Thank you!

Carly ruined my hair. I asked her to match my roots which are red and she put on brown… Then had to do a baylage to break up the darkness. Now 3 months later I have a horrific band across my head that required bleach to be fixed. My hair is ruined and still not the color I want. The cut she gave me was great, however I recommend someone else to do your color if you are a red head!

I have wavy hair that is challenging to cut in a way that I can style without pieces winging out. Rodger is the first stylist who has been able to cut my hair in a way that I can style it easily AND I can let it dry naturally for a different look. He’s amazing!

Just the best place in town. Kristi has been cutting my hair for 3ish years and has never done wrong by me. She listens to what you want, but offers her input as well. For example, the last time I requested bangs, she told me she was worried I’d look like Peppermint Patty. Of course, she told me this nicely. Really, I just have so much trust in what she does to my head.
Also, the general vibe of this place is great. Busy, but relaxing. Clean and spacious. The other stylists are always welcoming.

Great experience. Staff was courteous. I could not have asked for a better hairstylist than Dan. He patiently listened to my concerns & what I wanted, & made relevant suggestions. He was extremely professional & you could tell that he really has an eye for details. Also the first time that I’ve gone to a salon where they’ve offered to wash my hair after the cut (which is way more logical seeing as you don’t have to go back home & shower to get rid of those pesky strands). This was my first time getting a haircut here (& in the US for that matter), so I was hesitant. But I will go back there without any hesitation. The booking process was also very easy on their website.

Great first experience at Bang! I came in for a rather drastic haircut and put my trust in Stephanie. She was so wonderful to work with. She spent time talking with me about various hairstyles and maintenance levels. Scalp massage was awesome. She took such care cutting my hair, and talked me through different options and adjustments as we went along. Awesome blowout. Pricing was very fair. Eight inches later and what felt like a «new me»… I got so many compliments on my new haircut. Excited to have found my new salon and stylist :)

I BEG you to go see Kelsey Wolpert. A true artist who really cares about her clients and her work. She makes you feel beautiful no matter what service your getting. Her blow outs are amazing, styling, cuts, color there is not one thing to doubt her on. She is a very hard worker, and deserves all the clients she has. Ive been getting my hair done by her for years, and im so happy I got the chance to let her ever do anything to my hair, from my crazy needs, and always changing it up! She can do anything this girl is unstoppable! Please Make an appointment people, you will not be disappointed!

Beautiful salon & great service. The girls at the check in are friendly & kindly offered water when I came in for my appt. My appt was for a haircut with Carly. She knows her stuff! Very happy with my cut and the scalp massage during the shampoo was relaxing. (I wish all hairstylists did this) :) The location is great for Wash Park, but the parking is the worst :(

Yesterday, I went to Brook for color and Dan for a cut for the first time. They were both terrific! Brook got my color exactly how I wanted it (which never seems to happen the first time I go to someone), and Dan did an awesome job with my haircut. I’ve received several compliments at work today. :) Both were easy to talk to and didn’t try to sell me anything. I have already booked my next appointment with both of them! Bang Salon is a little pricey, in my opinion, but so are most good salons in Denver.

I went through THREE different hair salons /​stylists in the 6 months after I moved here from Hoboken. I had loved my guy there, and was getting super frustrated. At this point, my hair was essentially black and looked terrible on me.
A friend suggested Kristy, who took the time to listen to my issues and wants, and restored my hair to normalcy! From there on, her cuts and color have been spot on (admittedly, my cut isn’t super fancy, but when you have fine long hair with wave, and a fair amount of it, the wrong cut can easily lead to lots of bad hair days). I’ve been getting highlights with her for over a year now, and each time it looks fabulous — whether I’m requesting something different, or we’re modifying what I have. She’s on top of the color trends, and creates natural, beautiful color.
She also works with your schedule and budget, and will let you know exactly how much maintenance you’ll need, and doesn’t push you to come in every 6 weeks «just because». Plus, she’s awesome to talk to.
The salon itself is also great — modern and clean, and good product selection.

HUGE UPDATE:
I cut my hair ultra-​short, like pixie-​short. Kristen has such an eye for what styles work for your face shape, and I’m so glad I went to her. I kept long sweeping bangs over the front and cropped mostly everything else, and I am so incredibly happy!
Seriously, if you’re looking for a place to get your ultra-​cool lesbian hair, go to Bang Salon and request Kristen. You can come and yell at me if you’re disappointed… but you won’t be!
