5 Green Boxes

The best place I can think of to pick up a thank you gift. Caution! You might «over-​buy» …Too many choices. I usual don’t care for the kind of place that has thousands of tacky tchokes. Zero tackiness at 5 Green Boxes. Much aesthetic pleasure… Their gift wrapping is adorable, as well.

Not so friendly staff… But I don’t really stop in for them!
I stop in for the funny and corky small gifts. Such a great place for funny birthday cards, stocking stuffers and cute home décor! It is dangerous living within walking distance from this cute little house turned into a shop.

This local spot is one of my favorite finds! They have a great selection of gifts and home décor that suits all sorts of people. They have glass terrariums that are really reasonable in price. I get compliments all the time on my framed beetle I got here as well.
I have also gotten many gifts for friends here and they are always loved!
There are tons of cards that range from cute to hilarious.
If you are looking for some unique things this is a good place to shop.

Great Eclectic Neighborhood store with home goods, candles, soap, novelties, unique gifts and very clever and fun window displays! If you are looking for a great gift that is upscale, eclectic, and unique, this is the place! Ask them to wrap it; their wrapping is clever too!

Here’s the thing: if you’re going to have a passive– aggressive sign at your register imploring people to «peel themselves off [their] cellphones» during the transaction, maybe you can pause in training your new employee on how to handle damaged merchandise using a return/​out of stock form while you’re ringing someone out, eh?
I like the merchandise there and was purchasing a sale item (sale price was well over 60 $). When I got to the register, the manager/​owner asked me «Did you try this on? Because it’s final sale.» Look, I worked in retail. I get it. Customers can’t read and don’t have their own best interests in mind when they grab final-​sale stuff and ring it out, only to find it doesn’t fit, and try to return it 3 days later. But there’s ways to word things that don’t seem like «Hey dummy!»
When you own a small store with high end merchandise in a shopping/​entertainment district, it can get old fast, i do get that. But if you’re the owner you need to dump the jaded attitude and find the happiness and excitement that lead you to start the shop in the first place and manifest that, not a «I’ve seen it all and I’m over it» feeling.

This store is so cool! I overheard the owner saying she travels all over to find neat things, and boy does she! I walked through a few times to make sure I saw everything, and I can’t wait until we are all moved in and I can look for decorating things. There’s stuff for everyone, from shabby chic to modern to kids. I will come back!

I love, love, love this shop. I am obsessed with this place. It’s so incredibly colorful and full of nic-​nacs that you can’t resist buying!

Walked into the small 5 green boxes looking for a specific gift that is usually there, but was told to go to the large one on S Pearl. They didn’t have it either, but Ewa took the time to have it transferred from the Wynkoop store in a day and delivered it personally to my door after store hours! Thank you Ewa, you saved me!

5 green boxes is a classic example of businesses catering to people that have too much money. Most of what is in the store is junk, high priced junk. You can find a few things that aren’t overpriced but you have to dig. I would rather see people spend their money on charities and helping people, than on a bunch of junk but there a lot of people out there, and they seem to congregate on Pearl Street, that are looking to spend their money on anything…

This is an evil, adorable little store (actually two stores about a block apart — one focused on home décor and gifts, the other specializing in ladies clothing and accessories). A good place to find a perfect gift for a lady-​friend, hostess gift or a «pick-​me-​up» treat. Also, a great place to view inspiring decorating ideas. I like the staff as well, friendly and accommodating.

This place is adorable! As many said, it’s very charming. I especially love how the staff does not keep an eye and every move you do– which is rather annoying at a lot of small local shops!

This is my go-​to place when I need to find a gift for a cool woman friend. They have fun and cool stuff, and the staff has always been friendly.

This is for the «Little» store. I love the selection of unique jewelry and was able to get a gift for a coworker who likes different pieces like an owl wearing a top hat! For around $ 20 I was able to pick up a multi strand necklace with a little charm that was perfect for her. It was wrapped in an adorable, tiny, lime green take-​out box with pink ribbon and a funky, Victorian boot sticker on the front. I had a hard time choosing between multiple pieces and was happy I had so many choices. They are open until 6 on weekdays which sometimes makes it challenging to get there after work.

Love. Love. Love. This is such a charming neighborhood store. They have so many darling, funny and unique little gift and knick knacks (imagine a store of Antho home goods). I go to PT on South Pearl, and I always find myself in this store before or after just wandering around– its just a fun, cheery space to explore.

This is a nice little shop if you are looking for a fun, beautiful, unique or quirky gift for pretty much anyone.

Great place for cards, hostess presents and stocking stuffers. So yeah there is some more high end (think Anthropology) type stuff but I hit this place for clever post cards and humorous stocking stuffers. Its not cheap but it is fun shopping.

Are you freaking kidding me with this place!!! Seriously, this makes me thankful that I do NOT live walking distance to South Pearl because I would be in serious debt. Not because items are exorbitantly expensive (because they are not — an airplane necklace was $ 24 and a gorgeous skirt with appliques on it was $ 45) but because everything — honestly, every last thing– is cute/​fashionable/​fun/​makes a good gift.
The store up the street with housewares is cute, but I found it a bit more kitschy…

Although I appreciate the sentiment behind a nice, knick-​knacky store like this, I can’t get behind it all the way. I came in looking for pretty much anything: stocking stuffers, last-​minute gifts for men or women, interesting home goods, white elephant gifts, gift ideas for myself, gifts for kids, gifts for geeks, you name it. I had heard a lot about this place and though it didn’t exactly disappoint it did not fit the bill.
Basically the smaller store is the super girly store with jewelry and clothes, and the «big» store (I do not believe their 3000 sq ft claim) is supposed to be a bit more «unique». I was told they had stuff for guys, stuff a little more interesting, wacky, nerdy, geeky, off-​the-​beaten-​path. Maybe I left the path a long time ago or something, but I just didn’t see that. They did have some cool seasonal items, like Christmas tchotchkes and ornaments, and some rather bland straightforward things like smelly candles and things. But so much of it was stuff I have seen in so many places; I had just seen some of their kitchen items in Kohls a few days beforehand. Not exactly unique, though it did fit the aesthetic. I tried to find the guys section, and it is a small niche in a small little alcove. Some socks, male kitch-​y things, but that was all. I saw a lot of things I’ve seen a lot of times before, from amazon to kohls to the mall. And it only takes so many «I look happy but it’s just the booze smiling» magnets to make me never need to see one ever again.
I ventured to the small, girlier store. it is definitely girly, but seemed just too old for me. While the items in the big store made me feel like the grizzled blowhard who has no sense of humor, this store made me feel 20 years too young. Lots of hats, scarves, sweaters. Some of the jewelry is pretty but in that young grandma way. Also, in a store so small you can practically smell what everyone had for lunch on their breath, I find it a little ridiculous that I walked in, wandered through the whole store, and never got acknowledged by any employee. Instead, one employee chose to ask the other if she wanted to see the other’s dog. So, out the first girl trotted, and brought in her giant dog into a very tiny store. Sort of neat that there was a friendly dog? Yes, but not when I was interested in an item in the case, but couldn’t ask anyone because they were all busy blocking the exit petting fido while getting paid to do so.

What a great find — I stopped in the small Jewelry store first which is decked out with clothes, shoes, purses, bags, and tons of jewelry. I am always so ecstatic to find these places that cater to local artists and new and unique one of a kind pieces. I must have looked around for an hour — if you have ever been you may be thinking «What was she looking at for an hour» — every where you look it’s like you missed something or something new appeared out of no where. I ended up walking out with a one of a kind bracelet made out of gift cards — that’s right I said it — GIFT CARDS! It is awesome and it will match the gift card earrings I have. I am docking 1 star because the woman working said Hello to everyone else but me and for some reason helped everyone else but me. She warmed up at the end, but the beginning was rough — I will give her another chance.
If you walk a block further down Pearl Street you find the matching 5 Green Boxes that has cards, stationary, books, children’s stuff, cookware, and PLANTS — yes I said plants. They even have outdoor space showcasing all their little plant gems. Make sure you look at all the furniture too, they have a lot to offer and the prices range from really inexpensive to a bit pricey — something for everyone. They are non-​discriminating.
I will definitely be back often to check out new inventory and stock up for myself or for gifts. This would be a great place for gift buying — unique enough to start great conversations.
