Tri State Towing

My car was towed from the DeKalb oasis by Tri-​State the Sunday after July 4^th; so it was a pretty big travel day.
Our tow truck driver, Mike, arrived within 20 minutes of me placing my call. This is almost unheard of in the towing business. He safely transported me, my 2 dogs and my car to the Hyundai dealer in Sycamore.
I have no complaints whatsoever. Mike got in and did his job quickly and effectively. He helped me out a great deal in the process; having had no problem with giving me and my dogs a lift to the dealership so that I could wait for my husband there.
Car wasn’t damaged by the tow.
Although it’s never fun to call roadside assistance (especially during a busy holiday weekend) my experience was an extremely positive one.

HAVE CASH ON HAND BEFORE YOU GET YOUR CAR!!!
Can’t emphasize that point enough. THEY ONLY ACCEPT CASH. Coincidentally, they also have an ATM on site. An ATM that CHARGES TEN FREAKING DOLLARS to take out any amount of cash.
I have never experienced a more flabbergastingly sketchy towing company.

My daughters car broke down on a Sunday in freezing rain. I called Tri-​State and they said that they would be there in 30 minutes, they arrived in 15 minutes. The driver Mike was very professional, friendly and helpful. Having to get a car towed is not a pleasant thing to need, but I was very happy with the service provided.

Towed my car as I was walking to it… wouldn’t let me get my purse out of the car to pay them and get my car back. When I went to the place to pick up my car, they ignored me and preceded to block me in as I tried to leave after paying them because he said I pulled out too fast and needed to go rake their gravel back into place.

Horrible company… their workers work way too fast, more than once, I even saw their guys begin to drive away before they finished hooking up the car all the way. They are completely unethical! Their guys get paid commission so they work fast and are way to hasty in their actions. Another time, I saw them tow a car, illegally, then put it back into the space once they realized it was legally parked. They have a policy where they can drop the car for $ 25 if you catch them before they drive off, so if they see you coming with the money, they will ignore you and continue to work, even faster. One guy will get into the truck and start driving off slowly while the other guy finishes the job, then hops into the truck! This happened once to one of my neighbors, so he stood in front on the truck to stop them, trying to tell the guys that is parking pass was in the window. Instead they ignored him and attempted to squeeze past him. They ended up hitting the poor guy! And he had a valid parking pass in the window!!! Talk about unprofessional! They are unethical VULTURES!

Although my run in with Tri State was unfavorable to me, the company its self truly needs improvement. I had my car towed from an apartment parking lot for no sticker. This is fine, they were doing their jobs as they were contracted to by the property owners. They do provide fast reliable service. (maybe too fast)
However, Tri State — being in the relocation business should learn to play by the rules governing their organization and its operations. Tri State has a policy that states: No Credit Cards for any Relocation service. However they willingly accept credit cards to non relocation tows. This is a violation of DeKalb Municipal Code (35.03/Q) This is also a violation of Illinois Motor Vehicle Code (625ILCS5/4−203:10)
I would have given Tri State a lower rating, but in general the office clerk was polite and very attentive to my needs. The clerk showed me where the car was and provided light small talk. Although relocation is never good for the vehicle owner, these guys were nice and just their jobs. They just need to play by the rules
