Sachs Recreation Center

I think this place was the old Chicago Bulls practice gym. They have a private court in there with Bulls logos everywhere. I’ve played basketball on the Bulls court and also on their regular courts. It’s always a fun time. The place is spacious and clean. Come by and check it out!

I’ve only used the pool facilities here so I can’t comment on the rest of the rec center. I came to swim laps very early in the morning and was very happy to find it was not crowded at all. The locker rooms are a little bare and outdated but they were clean and always empty when I was there so I can’t really complain. Nice spot to get some inexpensive lap swimming in!

I’ve been working out at this club for a few years now. I picked the location because it is close to my house, affordable, small and usually not too busy. Since I have been there awhile I know some (not all) of the staff and have found them to be helpful and courteous. I did not read that anyone commented on child center. The women there are very sweet, understanding and caring with the children. They NEVER complain, even when they are at max capacity. The only negative remark I would say is that the weight rooms are not cleaned on a regular basis. The floors sometimes have a lot of dirt and hair on the floor and the mirrors are always covered with hard marks. Overall I really like Sachs!

Great facilities, affordable membership and daily pass rates, fits the bill for everything needed in a gym. Locker rooms are clean and spacious.
HOWEVER, the front desk staff is extremely unfriendly always appears to be miserable, except for a younger woman (no names will be mentioned in this review) that is always helpful, smiling and pleasant. The other women working there should find another job or realize they are in a customer service role and act like it. If this gym weren’t so close to my home and be as great a physical facility as it is, the women that work the front desk would definitely cause me to spend my money elsewhere and find another gym.

I used to workout here when it was multiplex. I played in a summer basketball league many years ago with Otis Wilson on my team. I was a fun flashback when my son attended a birthday party here a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was ok, nothing special. It was a sports party that was basically a couple of women supervising the kids playing indoor soccer. The events room for cake was long and narrow and bit hard to get around it.

Looking to get back into the workout grove? Look no further than Sach’s Recreation Center. Being a college student I don’t want to spend a fortune on a gym membership for an entire year. At Sach’s Recreation Center I was able to get a 3 month gym membership for college students which cost 99 dollars! This membership allowed me to use all the gym equipment and try a lot of the group exercise class. The locker rooms are very clean and they have a lot of small studios so that they can hold a lot of group exercise classes. Some of my favorite exercise classes are Zumba on Tuesdays with Dawn and Zumba on Sundays with Marla. These ladies are so entertaining! The only issue that I had with Sach’s is that my membership expired a bit too quickly in the month of August. I kind of wanted a few more weeks worth! However, the gym was very accommodating to my situation. Since I only go about three days a week, they are letting me pay the 9 dollars a day fee so that I can keep taking the group exercise classes before I head back to school.

Immaculate. Super clean. Nice locker room. 3 basketball courts. Never seems to be busy, especially the fitness machines. Staff is incredibly helpful and friendly.

I first learned of this facility over the summer when I played in a work basketball league. Strangely enough, it’s been right under my nose this whole time. I’ve been going to Boston Blackie’s, the Secretary of State’s office and Cooker’s Red Hots for years, all of which share the same parking lot and somehow I missed this 100,000 square foot gym whose entrance was slyly tucked away in the corner. I used to drive all the way to Skokie or Park Ridge in the past to play ball during the winter with my work buddies never realizing this was so close to the office. Oh well. I primarily use the baskeball courts (they have three, the pro-​size Bulls court isn’t open all the time) but besides that there are also a couple of tennis courts, racquetball courts, a track, a four-​lane pool, kids game room and café. There always seems to be some class going on for dance, gymnastics and/​or martial arts. Very family friendly atmosphere. The facility is clean and well maintained. There is plenty of cardio equipment available for use but I’m not sure if they have a weight room. I do most of my weight training at Bally’s so I haven’t really looked into it yet. And then there is the special part. As I get on the court with the big Bulls head logo, I get a geeky thrill knowing that before my beloved Bulls went on to collect the last 5 of their six championships, MJ, Scottie, Horace and the fellas trained here for their first. Now if I could get Ray Clay to run down our starting lineup while I hum a little Alan Parsons Project in my head, well, that would just be so awesome.
