History

Established in 1995.

After 10 years representing clients for the state’s leading real estate firm and doing numerous fixer upper and development projects, Glenn & Therese Mendell founded Fox Real Estate in San Ramon, CA.

Early on, with the Internet taking shape, Glenn developed a real estate program that streamlined the process of buying and selling real estate. The Associated Press ran a story crediting Glenn with doing the first online real estate transactions, gaining national attention. A year later, the San Francisco Business Times ranked Glenn & Therese 1st in the Bay Area for real estate transactions in a calendar year.

Additional staff and agents were added, most with the company to this day. Fox offices opened in Livermore, San Jose and Santa Cruz with over sixty agents working in eight counties.

Glenn & Therese’s management duties peaked, leaving less time for their own clients, so company growth was eventually scaled back.

2014 marks the company’s 20th year in business, 30 for Glenn & Therese.

My introduction to real estate was not glamorous. I cleaned, hauled and did roof work on rentals as a teenager. Just after college, I bought my first home, a fixer upper with no money down, agreeing to pay the seller back in a year. After fixing it up, I sold it, paid him back with interest and bought two more homes.

I originally obtained my real estate license for future buys and sells, fixing up one or two a year and reselling. However, friends and others started to ask if I would find them a fixer upper or good real estate deal. I helped some of them on the side and by the late 1980’s was working full time with repeat clients and new ones they were referring.

I was with Fox & Carskadon, California’s top brokerage, and was always one of the youngest Realtors. I worked hard and was thrilled to make the company’s top 3% ranking.

In 1995, my 10th year in real estate, Coldwell Banker bought Fox & Carskadon and dropped the name. I decided to leave and founded Fox Real Estate.

I do not give out 5 stars easily, as my rating distribution would attest. Everything has to be right in order for me to whole-​heartedly give a 5 star rating. This sentiment should be apparent in my writing. Some realtors will solicit a 5 star Unilocal review. This is not one of those reviews.
Therese Mendell has been our property manager since 2012. Prior to calling her, we’ve heard enough horror stories about property management being more trouble that it is worth, that we began the search with a very cautious mindset. It was not an easy task for Therese to convince us otherwise, but she did. And she continues to impress, as we are now going through signing with our third set of tenants.
This job takes a lot of qualities. The mere phrase of «being professional» does not describe the very least. And I’m sure there are many other things that Therese does in the background, to do her job well, that I’m not aware of.
A great recommendation should come with examples, not just filled with abstract praises. Here are my examples.
Therese has meticulous organization, that may include remembering everyone who has come through the open house, and what their references have to say. That may also be making sure all parties have all their paperwork in order, so the signing, the move-​in/​move-​out is smooth. That may also be doing homework on the perspective tenants, i.e. studying the background check, calling references, etc.
And finally, it takes acumen to know which applicant would come through as a good tenant. And it takes dedication to stay on top of everything.
The end result, I, the homeowner, needs to worry about next to nothing. I only wish every business is run this way, with professionalism and dedication.

Scott Rasmussen did an amazing job helping my wife and I sell one house and buy another five months later!
He understood our financial situation and made it possible for us to sell when we were way underwater only a year earlier. His advice on how to stage our house was great. The closing process was smooth for us since he handled the eratic behavior from the purchasing realtor to keep the sale moving forward.
Five months later he helped us to find and purchase our next home. We got our offer put in at just the right time to get a house that we never thought we could. As with all homes built over 60 years ago there were some surprises but luckily they were found and fixed. For example, Scott had a hunch that we should get our sewer lateral checked with a video camera and it turned out to be broken in three places. The seller had to fix it rather than us! He even crawled under the foundation with me to examine some potential plumbing issues.
We are grateful everyday for the amazing house we now call home thanks to Scott!

We were introduced to Glenn by a friend of my wife who had known Glenn and his wife through their business for almost twenty years. That was on a Saturday at 2pm. Sunday at 10, we were in Glenn’s office discussing our needs and we were not sure of the exact city. He showed us a few places almost immediately and helped us refine our thoughts. Over the next couple of days, he returned our phone calls and emails promptly and quickly sent us a list of homes to give him feedback on. He homed in on what worked for us instantly. The weekend after, we saw three homes and one felt like it was the one. He made us wait for a day to clearly think through this.
Through this process, i found him to be very very methodical, patient and discreet but not afraid to speak his mind and share his experiences. In short, he allowed us to decide with our heart but did not let us avoid thinking with our brains. He then introduce us to our finance agent — Jill Lyons of CMG financial. She was like him — client focused, friendly and very execution oriented. We were pre-​approved by an underwriter and then went on to make an offer. Glenn helped us negotiate the offer down by 3% from the asking price while getting us some rather expensive buyer concessions. He made us think and not rush at every step of the way. When it was done, he got us a very good deal that made all of us happy.
Glenn’s strength comes from his communication skills — he is prompt at returning calls and emails, is good with technology, focuses on the short (the sale) and the long (when you want to move out in 10 years) and his deep knowledge of the areas. He always knew someone on the other side as we worked through various homes and was able to give us the inside scoop on what was and was not possible. And he had our back all the time — this was not a transactional relationship.
And this entire experience was incredibly stress free for my wife and me. Escrow closed in 28 days flawlessly.
Bottom Line: Not only will you not go wrong with Glenn, you will go right!

This is a long time coming and I regret not doing it sooner…
I sold my house last December with Sott Rasmussen as my realtor. He was awesome! He really helped us get the house ready to sell. He was honest and gave great advise. We had one open house and he worked so hard that we got 3 offers that first day. Needless to say we sold our house in a timely manner. Of course we had «issues» as every seller does but he helped us through them as well.
I’d use Scott again as my realtor whether buying or selling!
