History

Established in 1989.

Started in 1989 by Robert Field, Ph.D., Quest was developed to observe children/​teens in a natural atmosphere of play, teaching them methods to improve their emotional and social functioning. While the primary focus was working with children with ADHD, it was clear that children with other mild to moderate emotional and social problems benefited from the individualized treatment provided in the summer and Afterschool programs. Quest’ SF East Bay summer program has grown through the years to over 100 campers/​week while Southern California and Pittsburgh, Pa programs continue to grow. The Afterschool programs are operated in Huntington Beach, Danville, Oakland, CA and Pittsburgh Pa. In 2009, Lisa Greenberg, PsyD completed research indicating that Quest had «a strong treatment effect at reducing global impairment at home and in the community». With the strong evidence, Dr. Greenberg presented these results at the national convention of the American Psychological Association in 2010.

Dr. Field graduated from the California School of Professional Psychology in 1977 specializing in child and adolescent psychology. He has been married to Debra Forrester-​Field since 1978 and has helped raise four children. He opened his private practice in 1979 and has worked closely with pediatricians, educators and families to coordinate a cohesive treatment plan. In 1989, he developed the Quest Therapeutic Camps and developed www​.direc​tive​par​ent​ing​.com, an interactive website for parents of children ages 4 – 12 years old
