Location was great! Views from the west side are the best. Prices are fair, Beds were not comfortable, changed rooms, still no luck. Please invest in better mattresses and I will update to 5 stars

Love this place for its natural beauty and scenery. It’s not pretentious and the staff are great, not to mention the tasty cocktails and appetizers that we enjoyed. The hotel is newly renovated on the inside, giving off a bright and airy feel. I recommend!

Stayed there a week and a half ago with my husband. He chose that resort as a surprise romantic getaway for us as we had stayed there once before about 2 years ago and loved it. Our check in went smoothly. They generously upgraded our room to a partial oceanview (hence the 2 star review instead of the deserving one). Upon check in, my husband had arranged for champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to be delivered to our room. I wasn’t expecting that so the gesture took me by surprise. Later in the evening, I went to take a shower and found our tub to be disgusting as if it hadn’t been cleaned and the toilet wasn’t working properly. We called the front desk to have someone check them out. A guy came in and fixed the toilet and then they sent someone to clean the shower. No apologies were made. Only excuses. After seeing the shower, it made us question if our sheets were even clean but since we had gotten a bit of a cold shoulder with the shower, we took our chance and slept in them. Later the next day, as the sun came out, we noticed just how dirty and poorly kept the room was. Below in the pictures you can see what I’m talking about. The glass on the table is dirty and the material is falling apart. The bed skirt had large stains. Overall it was just not worth the price we paid. Apparently they feel it’s ok to charge a decent amount of money for a Motel 6 standard room. After my experience, I’d recommend checking out your options.

My husband and I stayed here last weekend and loved it. The views are to die for (being that it is on a cliff) and there are so many fun restaurants and activities to partake in that are in walking distance. This Marriot is certainly a step above the typical Marriot set up.
The service was incredible, I even made a comment to my husband about how every single person was so happy and helpful. Katelyn checked us in and set our weekend off on the right foot. She really seemed to care about getting to know us. We mentioned I was pregnant with my second child and when we got back from dinner there was a bottle of sparkling cider and chocolate covered strawberries to ‘help with my cravings’ (which were consumed immediately!) It was so kind of her. All around we had a great stay and can’t wait to bring our kids back (it has a kids park, splash pad at the pool, and seems very kid friendly). Thank you Marriot!!!

Had a great weekend at this hotel. The spa is nice for a getaway but wish it was more couple friendly.

Stayed here for my low key Bachelorette weekend. Had a wonderful time. The costumer service is excellent. Everyone is very professional and friendly. The hotel grounds are beautiful and it’s a peaceful property. Upon check out we decided to grab some starbucks before we left. I wish I would have asked her name, but she was delightful. Seemed like she really enjoys her job and you can’t help but smile while talking to her. Older gal with an accent.
Glad we chose to stay at this location.

I love this place. Best massages and reasonably priced. The grounds are beautiful and picturesque. And brunch is a must do!!!

My husband and I got married in Orange County and decided to have the wedding party and families stay at this resort. Overall the hotel sits on a beautiful ground overlooking the harbor and ocean in Dana Point. The rooms are clean and decent sized though slightly outdated. The restaurant has good food (we especially liked the weekend brunch) but overpriced.
Why isn’t it 5 star worthy? The price is a bit steep. In addition to the room cost, be prepared to pay a daily mandatory resort and valet parking fee ($ 55) on top of that. Valet service can be understaffed at times which meant we were waiting over 20 mins to get our car. Also my mother in law and I got different quotes about group hotel rates, they weren’t willing to negotiate price and made you pay a minimum fee if you didn’t have enough guests book with them.
There’s a lot of beautiful hotels in the OC, not sure if I’ll be coming back here.

Worst experience broken tile my wife cut her foot broken refrigerator dirty shower and no water pressure. We complained and nothing until room service saw the broken tile the next day they fixed it while we were in the room I have pictures the workers card that fixed it made a complant to corporate and they said they would forward and have someone get back to us no one called it’s been over a month you could get a cleaner room better service and half the fees cut off at a motel 6 then this dirty hotel with horrible service

This is an absolutely gorgeous location. The staff is incredibly nice, the view is spectacular (you can have your morning coffee with a view of the ocean on a stunning patio), the pool is heated to 85, you’re in walking distance to the beach.
Here’s the catch, everything is incredibly expensive. Pay-​per-​view movies are $ 20. There is a resort fee of $ 25, valet is $ 35 (and you have to use it or park miles away). We went during the off season and got 20% off luckily, but it was an expensive stay.
It was a little noisy at times, but we got a good night’s sleep.
I’d stay here again in a heartbeat though, despite the priciness.

For a long weekend babymoon, we did a Hotwire search in Dana Point and this lovely place was our winner! $ 160/​night during the summer on a weekend… can’t beat that!
They are NOT located right on the beach if that is what you are looking for. It is situated right across the street and walking distance from Dana Point Harbor and the beach. The grounds are lovely and the views are spectacular.
Our room looked out to one of the pools, and if you strained a bit, you could see the bit of the ocean. The rooms were standard size (would’ve liked a bigger bathroom) but very clean. We ordered room service for breakfast and it came right when we wanted and was delicious!
I also got a prenatal massage at their spa… such a treat! They were able to position the support pillows around my belly so that I could actually lay on my stomach vs. on my side like most prenatal massages are done
So overall my husband and I enjoyed our little babymoon getaway.
The only cons: small bathroom, only valet parking (at $ 25/​day)

I know this is way overdue, but I just remembered this place as I was trying to book a stay down in the Newport/​Laguna area for the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
We came for my wife’s birthday about 3 years ago. I remember because a couple of good night’s sleep was my present to her as we had very little ones at home. So, off to the in laws the kids went and we headed down to Laguna. The location is nice and the grounds are kept well, but I must say we were disappointed immediately at check in. We got there at 4:15pm and the room wasn’t ready. We had to wait. So we took it in stride and walked around the facilities. The place did not look busy, there were hardly any people at the pool, and really not many people walking around. An hour or so later, we get a call to check in. Makes you wonder why it takes so long to check in when there wasn’t anyone around to service!
Anyhow, when we got into the room, we just felt that the inside of the rooms did not match the facilities and price. The rooms were dated, nothing special, and definitely not something I would call a nice retreat for my wife. Also, the walls seemed thin as we heard everything going on in the surrounding rooms and hallways. Funny how there didn’t seem to have a lot of guests at the hotel, but our room area was so noisy. We even told the front desk we were here for a good night’s sleep! Maybe they packed all the guests in one side of the hotel? Well, we made the best of the situation and spent a nice weekend together. Like I said, the facilities and grounds are nice, but if you want nicer rooms and that retreat like feel, this is probably not your place.

I put off writing this review for a while as I hate to put out negative feedback, but since I am in the midst of wedding planning, this has been on my mind.
Initially my fiancé and I thought this would be the ideal location for our September wedding. We loved the hotel and camp frequently across the street at Doheny State Beach. After a few visits and unreplied emails we then realised these people do not care for our business. We first met with Winona who was cordial but not necessarily caring. Gave us a tour and cracked maybe one half smile through the whole tour. We tried to contact her again for another tour and were referred to Angela, who was much nicer and enthusiastic about our event.
The last straw for us on why we decided to take our business elsewhere was the lack of response to our emails. I had to email Winona twice to get her to reply to my questions about deposits etc. The last email we sent to Angela was never replied to. The lack of customer service really showed, and really angered my fiancé and I since this was the location with the highest added service charge of 24%. We finally said SAYONARA and began to look else where.
Since then we are happy to announce that we secured our wedding date and venue at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica. Mary is everything I dreamed of in a wedding coordinator! She was very transparent and honest in answering all of our questions, and their rates are SO MUCH BETTER! We are actually extremely happy Laguna Cliffs did not want our business.

If cost is a consideration then this should not be your first choice.
That being said the facility and staff are first class. The view, on a clear day, is spectacular.
The restaurant is very good but be sure to add a third to the expected cost… for the view.
In room coffee is bitter but there is a Starbucks counter located in the bar area.
You should tack on $ 100 to the base rate to cover «mandatory Fees», such as resort and parking, and local taxes. Oh, and wifi is extra.
My room came with a small balcony with two chairs and the ocean was visible in the distance. For Saturday night it was $ 447.50. The movie added $ 17.

Wonderful service in this oceanside resort. There are some restaurants within walking distance. You can borrow bikes free at the consierge and surfboards. Poolside is wonderful !!! Beers 5.50 by pool, Jared was a great server!
Comfortable chairs to hang out on all day ! Views of the ocean while poolside, not much better than that

We booked through hotwire to get a deal. It wasn’t much of a deal with all the add on fees. I’ve stayed there before on occasions and everything was ok. This experience was worse.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were told there is a 25 $ resort fee (on top of what we paid.) Parking an additional 35 $ per car, valet only. Even with a handicap placard, the price is still 35 $. We had 2 cars… We basically paid 100 $ on top of room, tax and fees after booking. One might think the 25 $ resort fee would include parking. This is not the case.
We were placed in quite possibly the furthest room from the main part of the hotel. Perhaps this was a punishment for booking through hotwire? I entered the room, the room itself was nice. The AC wasn’t working however. I called to have them fix the AC, when I left to attend a wedding. They said someone would come by and check on it. When my wife and I came back it was 1am, the room was hot and the AC still wasn’t working. We called the front desk again. The engineer came at that time and said the AC wouldn’t work. He gave us a rotating table fan, which we then placed on our ironing board to keep us cool throughout the night. When we brought up these issues to management, all they did was refund the parking. Perhaps they think that is sufficient, but They felt they had «done enough.»
They sure did.
Very substandard, particularly for the Marriott brand, which I think for the most part offers pretty consistent high quality service.

was here for a company event and enjoyed my stay! average hotel, very pretty outdoor venues, lots of activities to do — love the park just steps away, walking distance to the beach, the challenging stairway for a great workout, rabbits/​bunnies sighting too!

The room was great, our balcony was cute and had a decent view. We did a whale watching package. The process was not smooth at all. I had to call in to schedule everything and find out times to be there etc… Seems like a hotel of that caliber offering a package would have all the details down and contact me if I had options to choose from… Other than that the service was great and the staff was friendly and we enjoyed our experience! =)

Stayed here the weekend immediately following Thanksgiving. I had a lot of anxiety about this resort having booked the weekend but somehow before I read many of the critical reviews.
Despite some problems and fees on top of fees, our party of six had a great time and the resort’s responsiveness to problems mitigated systemic billing issues. I expect to pay bucks at a nice place and don’t want to self park as some have complained. My Motel 6 days are long behind me
Several issues did arise and while it did raise my blood pressure, supervisors honored various promises made re the property and an a significant upgrade. And they resolved problems to my satisfaction without being adversarial.
Staff were extremely accommodating and we stayed on property for most of our three day, two night visit. We loved the Overvue lounge and enjoyed a great cover band Friday night and Sunday am football.
The fitness center is one of the best I have seen and one of the acutriments I look for and a deal breaker. We rode top-​of-​the-​line bikes included as part of the resort fee, too.
The spa was great with an awesome whirlpool, steam and dry saunas. We didn’t get massages but we did get three great haircuts, one for a man. We enjoyed the salon.
While the rooms seem modernized and include a desk, they need updating for the mass amount of electronics brought by everyone. There were no convenient beside outlets or USB charging stations, not even near the desk. The closest accessible outlets were out of reach and where they have the coffee pot.

Beautiful Hotel located overlooking Dana Point Harbor. Building are a little disjointed with having to walk from the main building to other rooms locations. It was OK since they gave a corner room with a panoramic view of the ocean and large balcony. Room are simply decorated and service was good. Wifi was sketchy, and on & off.
