We launched our original website in 1995 because we understood that e-​commerce was essential to our future, but we are first and foremost a watch company, not a «dot com» company. History

Established in 1952.

In 1952, Jack and Mickey Kopol founded Kopol & Kopol, a general merchandise company dedicated to wholesaling quality merchandise at the lowest possible prices. After many successful years in business they began specializing in fine watches. And to reflect the nature of their new business, they changed Kopol & Kopol to About Time®. In 1995, well ahead of most of their competition, they launched www. aboutime​-watches​.com, soon replaced by www​.about​time​.com.

Marty, Holly and Steve Burns (friends of the Kopols) purchased the business in 2003. After extensive business growth, today, visitors at our store as well as calls and e-​mails pour in from all over the world. Customers quickly become friends, thanks to the personal, knowledgeable service of the About Time® staff. They ship nearly every watch brand at every price point across the country and around the globe. And no matter how many watches they ship, the only things they count are the letters from grateful customers.

Originally from the Aerospace Industry, dealing with Turbine engines I have always had a passion for mechanical devices. Most of my professional experience has been within organizations in which I’ve successfully led large diverse teams to achieve a common goal. I have an outstanding track record of building the business at About Time and at Pratt & Whitney. I currently hold a BS, a MBA and have several patents dealing with Turbine Technologies. I left aerospace business for an opportunity to own my own business and work with fine mechanical watches. My skill sets have grown About Time from a small office run operation into a well known watch store with customers throughout the world. We service all watches and are known for our unique ability to truly discuss watches which has given us the title among our customers of «the watch teaching store». Finally got my watch working again after paying another $ 200 to a local watch smith. He told me that the reason the movement wasn’t working is because it was dirty, and had never been cleaned or regulated, by his estimate, since it was manufactured. He also said that it was covered in finger prints. This means that even though I was charged for the movement to be serviced by About Time they didn’t do it. (See item 2. in my original post) Again this is an example of what About Time employees are capable of. Cleaning and oiling a swiss movement is the most basic skill in a watch smiths repertoire and they can’t even do that right, use their repair services at your own risk!

This updates my review for the repair process that started in March 2015 and completed in June 2015 on my Fortis B42 Marinemaster.
Long story short, what I thought I was paying for as described by Holly (store manager) didn’t end up happening. The dial that I paid for ($ 180) that was shipped to her store was incorrect, and while Holly tried to remedy it, she was unable to secure the correct dial from the Fortis Factory. I was able to find a supplier in Philadelphia, so either she was unsure which dial my watch required or didn’t put in the extra time and effort to track down the dial.
I am going from 2-​stars to 3-​stars. Unilocal describes 3-​stars as «A-​OK» which is how I feel. The watch was repaired, although not to the standard I expected or that I paid for, but they were kind and respectful through the process. To be absolutely fair and honest, I would consider buying a watch from them, but on the repair front, I am leaving my review at 3 stars because the quality, service, value and price aren’t worthy of 4 or 5 stars.
If you want 4 or 5 star service, go elsewhere. If you are ok with «A-​OK» you’ll be treated with a smile at About Time. It’s the difference between a local diner and a fine-​dining establishment — sure, the diner will call you «hun» and fill your stomach, but if you want great service, attention to detail and excellence, you go to a fine dining place. About Time is like a diner, which some people love, but when it comes to my watches, I require more attention to detail.

I had a few watches on my to-​do list that needed batteries. She was as friendly in person as she was on the phone. I dropped off my watches and to my surprise they were completed in an hour and for only $ 10 each. They also had some very nice time pieces in stock. I’ll definitely be back…

A very nice small shop that replaced two batteries for my watches at a fair price and did it in one day. I guess it was Marty that was explaining the workings of a beautiful desk clock to another customer. He really seems to be very knowledgeable.

I was looking for a particular Graham watch and was directed to About Time from Graham. I exchanged many emails with Holly and found her to be responsive, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. She graciously offered to bring the watch into the store for me to evaluate, touch, try-​on, etc… When I arrived to see the watch, I was pleasantly greeted by Holly and Marty. Marty took time and care to educate me on the watch and it’s features. They were both patient and kind. I did purchase the watch and had nothing but an exceptional experience. Frustrating why my first review was filtered.
Went back to browse some watches for the wife’s B-​day. Marty like past times was terrific in explaining the attributes of the watches shown. Although we didn’t intend to buy, we’d walked out the door when she said she found one she liked. She’s pretty conservative so to find a watch right off was good.
Truthfully I enjoy looking at watches so this would up being a one stop shopping trip.
We’re glad to have a shop like About Time locally.

I recently bought a pre-​owned watch from About Time Watch Company. I had never seen the actual watch — only on pictures and a video on the website. After reading several positive reviews at various watch-​dedicated sites, I decided to purchase the watch.
Everything went very smooth. I placed the order paying with a mastercard. The watch was shipped with 2-​day insured shipping, and arrived perfectly packaged and in a condition exceeding my expectations.
I am very satisfied with the immediate respond time and the overall great customer service. I would recommend About Watch Company to anyone in the market for a pre-​owned or new watch.

my fiancée wanted to buy me a watch as an engagement present, and instructed me to shop around for what i wanted. as much as i’d love my dream watch (omega aqua terra… she’ll get it as an anniversary gift in the future ;)) i just didn’t want her spending so much money, so i shopped around for a good ‘entry level’ swiss watch with an automatic movement. i called up marty at about time to talk about watches, and he turned me on to this brand called ‘ball watch company’. i did some research about it, really liked the story behind it (american company but watches made in switzerland… google it, it’s a really interesting history), and went in to about time to check it out in person. as marty had told me over the phone, the quality and value for their watches is just great! after settling on the ball engineer II ohio 40 mm watch with black face (
), i ordered it thru marty and it came quite quickly. after receiving it, however, there were some issues with the watch (totally not marty’s fault) and marty took care of everything with ball watch co. and today i’m wearing and really enjoying my new gift! thanks marty! total pleasure buying from you! :)

Steve and Barbara were very helpful in assisting me. I was looking for an Edox watch — not carried by many retailers in the US. They did a special order and managed to get it to me halfway across the country in only 3 days. Watch looks great. Fantastic overall experience, highly recommend.

Don’t buy here! These guys are unauthorized dealers!
Their service is extremely bad! So extremely RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL!
Went in there to get a battery and the watched worked for a day and the battery went dead! When I went back this really rude little guy told me it my watch was a piece of garbage and I should buy a new watch! And he did not replace the battery or refund my money!
What a foul mouthed APE!

Buy with confidence — for the past 3 – 4 years I’ve had my eye on a certain high-​end watch (because About Time is not an authorized dealer for the particular brand, they ask customers to not mention the specific brand by name to maintain their ability to source high-​end watches at discount prices — I am respecting their request, but will say that the watch I purchased was a well-​known, high-​end brand — think Cartier, Rolex, Panerai caliber).
I came across About Time’s website a few years back while searching for that particular model watch, and was impressed by About Time’s pricing relative to other websites. I e-​mailed Holly, who was very helpful and friendly. However, due to general economic conditions, I was hesitant to spend a relatively large sum on a non-​necessity and, although i kept in touch with Holly over the past three years, I didn’t pull the trigger until March 2011.
Although I was a bit hesitant to make such a large purchase over the web (particularly because there are not a lot of reviews about About Time on the net), I could not find any negative reviews about About Time, so I decided to proceed with my purchase. Although the price of the model I purchased had risen significantly over the past few years, About Time still offered it on terms that were generally competitive with other internet watch dealers (although some other dealers did offer the watch for $ 200 – 300 less, I did have questions regarding the authenticity of those merchants’ goods). Holly handled the sale quickly and professionally. She located the model I wanted from one of her sources and after I wired the purchase price (they accept credit card, but offer a discount on cash/​wire purchases) arranged for her source to have it shipped to me. The watch (which i bought new) arrived promptly, packed in the original factory packaging and accompanied by a complete set of accompanying papers, warranty, manuals, etc.
So to all those potential high-​end watch buyers lurking out there and wondering whether About Time is legit — based on my experience, it definitely is. Although they weren’t the lowest-​priced seller on the particular model I purchased (which is the only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5), they were definitely in the balpark and offered competitive pricing. I was looking for a local watch company to continue my watch collection and be able to talk to someone instead of just researching/​purchasing online. I went to the store and met Holly and have since bought a watch for myself and my wife with her help. This is the kind of place you can go if you want to get expert advice and a great price on a real watch as well as develop a relationship with the owners because of their willingness to help with your decision. This is where i will buy every watch in my collection. I would give it 6 stars if i could.
