AMAZING!!! Stumbled across this place on the way behind main street for my daughter to take pictures of the sunset. At first I waled in attracted to the Bakery sign but when I walked up the short flight of stairs and into the store there were little to no baked goods present. When the owner, Dave, came out from the back we found him to be very personable and he informed us that most of his business is done on a made to order business. I bought three huge chocolate chip cookies from the counter display and took Dave up on his note and ordered a blueberry pie for the next days dinner. Dave had explained that though November is not blueberry season, they would be Maine grown blueberries that were individually frozen therefore lacking the clumped together mushy consistency that comes along with the normal frozen fruit that is used for pie making. There were 5 total desserts and our family dinner brought by 3 different family members present at dinner. The only dessert item to have totally disappeared was the Bakery’s blueberry pie. Thanks Dave! We will be back!

In the two years since the eponymous Candy’s closed, and with the recent closure of The Breakfast Place on Main Street, Damariscotta and her neighboring towns have gone without a dedicated bakery. David Atwater’s The Bakery is a welcome arrival. Offering a variety of scratch muffins, pastries, breads, cakes and pies, our favorites are the fresh blueberry muffins(and blueberry muffin«holes»!) and the Anadama bread. Located just off Main street in the Municipal Parking lot, The Bakery opens at 7am and has a few small tables if you don’t have to rush home to feed a crowd. Quite cheerful service from David, Betty and Grace.
