Established in 1981.

After graduating in 1981 from University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, Dr. Kenneth Hovden joined his father’s private dental practice. When his father retired in 1997, Dr. Hovden took over the dental practice. He continues to be a leading cosmetic dentist in San Francisco, CA and has helped countless people improve their smile!

Dr. Kenneth Hovden is the son of two successful dentists. He completed his doctorate from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry where he received the Gene Dixon Student Leadership Award. After graduating in 1981, Dr. Hovden joined his father in private practice.

Not only is Dr. Hovden a well-​known cosmetic dentist in the San Francisco, CA area, he has served as a member of the UOP Dental School faculty for over 28 years and a Spear institute faculty member. In addition to teaching, Dr. Hovden has published several articles in dental journals. Memberships in professional organizations include Accredited Status in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the San Mateo Dental Society, and the American Association of Endodontists. When away from the office, Dr. Hovden enjoys snow skiing, water skiing, backpacking, and RVing with his wife and children.

Dr. Hovden has been our family dentist for over 30 years. He provides the best dental care. He pays attention to the smallest details and catches any issues before they become priblems. Recently I got veneers on my front teeth. The color and fit were so perfect. I looked at them for days in disbelief of how good they were. Whether it’s cosmetic or general dentistry, Dr. Hovden is the best!

It is a pleasure to review Dr. Kenneth Hovden because I can recommend him with such enthusiasm. I would rate him with more than five stars if I could. From my home I must travel over 21 miles to reach Dr. Hovden’s office, so there are many dentists who are for me much more conveniently located. Yet I find that the superb, personalized care I have received from Dr. Hovden over several decades makes the extra travel entirely worthwhile.
Besides routine prophylactic care, I have had fillings, crowns, bridges and, most recently, implants all with excellent results. Dr. Hovden is skilled in cosmetic dentistry, has the latest in dental equipment, enthusiastically keeps up with the ever-​changing technology and procedures in dentistry, is meticulous in his craft and demands the same of the laboratories with which he works. I have found him to be gentle in his touch, a good communicator, honest and kind. He has followed up with a phone call the next day after major procedures and he has come into the office during his off hours when urgent care was needed. His referrals to other dental specialists have always been excellent.
Dr. Hovden’s hygienists and staff are also wonderful. They are competent, well organized, friendly and respectful of a patient’s schedule. I have always been taken on time for appointments. Lastly, parking is free at the medical building where the office is located and spaces are easy to find.

He is a dedicated professional and is always pushing himself forward for our benefit with all the latest innovations for dentistry. He is a dentist with a passion; your health and your smile! His staff are excellent and the dental hygienists are first class. His office isn’t showy but their focus is on you always!

He is kind and experienced. No complaints regarding the dentist. However, you must pay up front and get reimbursed by your insurance company and that can be a pain since dental procedures are very expensive.

Moving out to California almost 8 years ago, I was faced with innumerable dilemmas. How would my first real job unfold? Would I meet new people? Could I afford rent? Adding «who will I see for dental services» was just one of many challenges that I did not entirely relish accepting.
Dr. Hovden was the first and only dental provider that I have needed since setting out on my own. His easy-​going attitude and dry humor are pleasant dressings to his years of experience and renowned authority in the field. He, along with his polite and professional staff, have identified and treated long-​standing issues that former providers have missed entirely. Without their care, I might be in a much different position than I am now, and for that I am grateful.
With an immaculate office, state-​of-​the-​art tools, and a true passion for medicine, Dr Hovden’s practice comes with my highest recommendation.

This review is just for a consultation, I haven’t had any work done here… YET. I’m still shopping around (I don’t have any dental insurance) but had to write up a review for Dr. Hovden because he is just so awesome. :) He provided an in-​depth consultation with great insight and knowledge. I was blown away by his sincere kindness and *free* invaluable advice. I’ve never gotten that from anyone in the health industry. I’ve always felt other Dr’s wouldn’t give me the time of day because of the no insurance thing, but from the first moment I walked in the door, I was greeted very warmly by the Dr. himself, filled out the customary forms and was taken back for my appt. within 2 seconds. Well it seemed that quick. I was so impressed that I’m now writing this review. I have a few other consultations but I have a very good feeling I’ll be coming back to Dr. Hovden.
Update 3÷27÷13:
I went in today for an exam, x-​rays and cleaning. I was planning on spending between $ 400 — $ 450 according to the nice lady that scheduled my appt. I spent $ 500.00 but was not able to get the cleaning done. I need deep cleaning (and other treatments) which will run me somewhere like $ 5000.00! This doesn’t even include the cosmetic part of what I need done. I truly appreciate the excellent work that is done here at Dr. Hovden’s office, but I don’t see myself coming back here — I simply cannot afford their services.

I’ve been lucky enough to have found Dr. Hovden when I moved to Daly City a few years ago. He did my veneer procedure which restored my smile. I have been going to his clinic ever since for cleaning, fillings, and check ups. Dr. Hovden is the best dentist I’ve had. His passion resonates with his work, as well as the upbeat demeanor of everyone in the clinic. They definitely make you feel comfortable and welcomed.

My wife began going to Dr. Hovden many years ago. I began going soon after and only dropped out once because of the distance I needed to travel. I eventually returned and have never looked back. Everyone in this practice has always been very professional and kind. Dr. Hovden is awesome and has a tremendous amount of training and experience. He and his staff are consistently upbeat. The office is impeccably clean and they keep up on the latest technology.

I’ve only been in to see dr Hovden twice, but so far I am extremely impressed. His initial inspection of my teeth was intensely thorough and I could tell by his demeanor that he’s really into his work. He also mentioned a recent study that applied to my case which gave me the impression that he stays current. My second appt was a filling and some impressions, quick and competent. And customer service is great, he even follows up on the phone, what year is this? 5 stars for sure

Dr. Hovden is a perfectionist and that is a very good thing for patients.. I found him by asking a dental lab owner I knew which of his customers did the best restorative and cosmetic work. He said it was Ken Hovden hands down and he was right. I then became a patient and have been very satisfied. Dr. Hovden takes dentistry seriously and enjoys his work. Both of his parents were dentists so he is carrying on a proud tradition. He has won gold medals in several peer reviewed national cosmetic dentistry competitions which just confirms what the lab owner observed. He is smart (Stanford grad), has a real eye for color, translucence and shape. If a crown doesn’t look and fit just right, he sends it back. He keeps up on the latest developments and teaches at UOP Dental School. He also teaches post grad courses to dentists. Whether you need general dentistry or cosmetic dentistry, you will be well served. Don’t settle for dentistry that looks just OK. Go to a dentist who demands and delivers perfection in appearance, structure and function. That dentist is Ken Hovden.
