Tippy’s Thai Cafe

Love love love this place!!! Went for my second time in one week. My 15 year old son, loves it too. We love spicy and think 2 is a good level. We have had 4 – 5 different dishes and all have been amazing. Atmosphere is cute and cozy. Service is so great and friendly too. We will be regulars! Love the coconut ice cram with sticky rice and peanuts too. BYOB!

Great Thai Food.
This is a little local owned place. I’ve only had take out, but it is always excellent. I am especially partial to the Tom Kha soup, Panang Curry, and Pad See Eew. The staff is always welcoming, and the cook often comes out to say hello while I am picking up.

I’ve changed my rating here. I eat here at least once a week and have since 2012. While the food and service is always excellent, I’ve noticed a pattern of reduced portions. While I understand food costs and overhead, I feel that now they’ve gained some traction, they are cutting back. I would prefer a larger portion and would accept the cost difference. Today I ordered two lunches… disappointing!

Came here to catch up with good friends, ordered some level 3 (out of 5) food. It was delicious! Beware this place’s level 3 is the equivalent of a level 5 at any other Thai restaurant. Downside — they didn’t have a kids menu.

Tippy’s is located next to Penzey’s Spices’ retail store. How ironic, because Tippy’s wonderful dishes may stop you from thinking about needing spices at home… just eat here. Every. Day.

Best tom kha, great peanut sauce, and wonderful crab rangoon. Tippy is also very sweet to the guests.

This is on my radar. Tried a friend’s dish (Pad Kee Mow) and from that tiny bite I want more. I’ll update this post fairly soon!
Location is easy to access and ample parking.
From the other reviews this place is consistently good — looking forward to confirming further.

I had a business lunch here recently and we started with the tasty summer rolls — fresh and so good. I enjoyed the pad see ew with pork for my entrée and really enjoyed it too. The atmosphere is nothing special, but you come here for the great food.

Best Thai food in Dallas! As soon as you step into this restaurant, it feels like home. The server, chef and everyone there are super friendly and attentive. The food is phenomenal regardless of what plate you order. I go here at least twice a week and both food and service are always consistent, they’re great!

We had spring rolls, summer rolls, red curry, and green curry all with tofu. So delicious, I asked for extra rice so I could savor every bit of the delicious curry. The ladies that work here are really nice to visit with and they helped us to know what the different sauces were and what food they went best with.

I came across the restaurant while searching for a lunch spot near work. It is kinda hard to find and is next to the comet cleaners.
As others have said before me, it is a very small restaurant. The lunch menu seems to be the truncated version of their dinner and leaves about 10 options only (including appetizers).
While the food was good and tasty, it was a bit on the sweeter side. I order the pad Thai and there wasn’t much veges besides the bean sprouts too. Personally I know that it is more on the authentic side but for my taste, I like more veges and less sweet. On the other note, we got the spring rolls and they were super fresh and I loved the peanut sauce that came with the salad that we order a side of it for the spring rolls.
Service was pretty good, I would come back but I won’t be getting the pad thai

Great family run restaurant. Wonderful, unexpectedly flavorful food. Beware. When they say spicy, they aren’t kidding.

I found this place via Google maps just because I was looking in the area and it had a great rating there.
A small, simple little restaurant in the strip mall by 635 and Preston (opposite India palace)
Easy parking and byob with a super friendly owner. For that alone I want to give it 5 stars.
The food was good by Dallas Thai standards and maybe I need to go back and try different dishes but the drunken noodles (one of my favorite) was just good.. Maybe even really good.. But not awesome.
I expected more given the ratings on maps and Unilocal.
I will certainty go back and try other dishes as I did see another disappointed reviewer and he also ordered the noodles.
Always wanting to support small businesses I will review again once I have tried more dishes

Just got back from a trip to Thailand and on a business trip in Dallas this week, so decided to give this restaurant a try based on reviews here. I had the minced pork with fried basil, which I’ve had many times in Thailand and it was just perfect. And. You just MUST try the Tung Tong stuffed wonton, it is heavenly :)

Food was delicious. The staff were friendly. The a coconut ice cream was absolutely dreamy! The Pad Thai GREAT!

To quote Charles Erskine Scott Wood, «I come from the West, where a man can go to hell and be damned…» The thing about my smaller hometown at the confluence of the great Columbia River and the lesser known Willamette, is that Portlandia has many great Asian restaurants compared to DFW. True, not all of PDX’s Asian entries are awesome. One need only consider Olé’s Medium Rare… Chinese restaurant in Clackamas.
Tippy’s is tiny, but on the day I went I was seated right away, and the cook came out of the kitchen to give me advice regarding what to order. Tippy’s has a wide variety, and the dishes can be made spicy, or not so spicy. the portions are small, but the three I tried were perfect, and I lie awake at night thinking of the soup. This unassuming and not well marked business is a flower in the desert.
One note: As I was finishing up, a family came in. Dad and the 4 year old were both playing very loud video games on tablets, and it was just stoopeed

I think I just found my favorite restaurant in North Dallas! I was going to give that honor to Cattleack Barbeque (no offense as Cattleack is 5 stars too) but Tippy’s is just way above the rest. As of now I haven’t brushed my teeth for 3 days since I cleaned the «Coconut Ice Cream with Sweet Rice» plate so I can still lick my teeth and recall that unique taste. Yes it is that good.
There a few pretty good restaurants hiding inside this Preston Valley plaza. From India Palace to Shanghai to Spring Creek, I can totally live next door and don’t need to go to the other side of LBJ again (having said that, my office is on the other side T. T). Since I just moved to Dallas, I relied on Unilocal heavily to look for restaurants for lunch and dinner. Tippy’s wasn’t no.1 on my list to try, but this night I just want something quick n fast (not fast food lol), so why not this hole-​in-​the-​wall restaurant with an ordinary look from outside?
Once I went inside, I was greeted by waitresses. Normally I don’t pick noodles but tonight I decided to try something different, so I went for the Drunken Noodles with Beef. The waitress asked me for spicy level out of 5. Although I can cope with 5, I told her 4 just to be safe. And it turned out to be pretty spicy, and at the same time very tasty too! With a little sweetness, the spice blended well with each other. Noodles are very soft with the right level of chewiness. The beef was cut and seasoned just right to eat with the noodles.
I was 90% full already but somehow I decided to go for dessert. I was glad I did. At first I just wanted the Coconut Ice Cream, but the waitress convinced me to serve it with warm Sweet Rice. Omg I never thought ice cream and sweet rice can surpass the Mango with Sweet Rice dish. As the sweet rice was soaked in the just-​melted Coconut ice cream, with the actual ice cream on top, it brought my taste buds to another level. The best part is the diced sweet corn chunks mixed into the ice cream. Perfect combination! Can’t wait to try all of their desserts.

I assume you’re reading this because you’re thinking about going to this restaurant. Just go. It’s lunch-​time, you say? GO, GO, GO! The lunch specials are so fairly priced it’s almost unfair! I had the soup of the day with my red curry for lunch and it was an incredible meal, truly. The soup was delightfully fresh; some sort of thin, flavorful broth with rice, green onion slices and cilantro. My red curry was just fabulous. I was all but licking the bowl my curry came in when it was all gone. There isn’t much else to say besides I’m coming back to this place.
Red curry. SOTD. Awesome lunch prices. Is there anything better than amazing thai food?!?
